Late Night Roundup: Colbert's 'Breaking Abbey' and Jimmy Fallon Chats with Martin Short

To spite Michelle Obama, who got to see the premiere of Downton Abbey early, Stephen Colbert exclusively premiered this new show last night: Breaking Abbey. This should put the First Lady in her place.

Hit the jump for more highlights from last night's late night shows, including Martin Short on Fallon, a Conan sketch, and a big year-end musical performance on Colbert:

Jimmy Fallon and David Letterman Did Their Shows Without Audiences Last Night

Hurricane Sandy caused Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and Jimmy Kimmel (who picked the wrong week to bring his show to Brooklyn) to cancel their shows last night, but Jimmy Fallon and David Letterman stayed strong and did their shows anyway, without an audience. It turns out to be super fun and only a little unnerving. Here's Fallon's monologue, which announcer Steve Higgins points out he's doing as if he had an audience. If they're always this fun, late night hosts should try doing their shows for an empty room more often, even when the weather doesn't necessitate it.

The Daily Show and The Colbert Report covered the election live last night and were able to announce Barack Obama's victory by the time the first show was a few minutes in. Here's the star-studded intro to The Daily Show, featuring Soledad O'Brien, Patrick Stewart, and Anderson Cooper and his golden saxophone.

With the big networks pre-empting their late night shows for non-comedic election coverage, TBS's Conan was the only other late night show to tackle the election last night (although the episode was taped in the afternoon). Check out some election highlights from last night's live installments of The Daily Show and Colbert, and pre-taped Conan after the [...]

Late Night Roundup: Kimmel Braves the Storm, Leno on Ferguson, and Letterman Is Still Audience-Free

It was a big night in late night as Jimmy Kimmel kicked off his run of Brooklyn shows after taking the previous evening off due to Hurricane Sandy. Here's Kimmel giving security guard Guillermo a Big Wheel tour of Brooklyn, his old hometown, kicking off a show that features what Kimmel calls "two of the greatest guests in talk show history": Howard Stern and Tracy Morgan. Kimmel's not just saying that to keep people from flipping the channel on him; these two guys really can give an exciting interview.

Elsewhere in late night, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert took another Sandy-inspired night off, Jay Leno made an appearance on [...]
