How Fate Created Duke Silver

"To my knowledge, they came up with the idea and the whole rounded personality of Duke Silver…completely unaware that I spent my entire youth as a jazz saxophone player…It was a beautiful marriage of their imaginations and my real life. It’s one of my absolute favorite attributes of the character." – Nick Offerman to CoCreate on how the fates aligned to create the perfect man, Duke Silver.

Ron Swanson's First Wife: Oprah?

On Parks and Rec, we've met Tammy #2, Ron Swanson's second wife, a couple of times. Played memorably by Nick Offerman's actual wife, Megan Mullalley, she's an amazing character and it's always great to witness the whirlwind of destruction that she brings to Ron's life. But Ron's first wife, Tammy #1, is someone we've only heard whispers about. Apparently, she is so terrifying that even the ferocious Tammy #2 trembles at the sound of her name. And who could play such a character? Well, if Nick Offerman has his way, it'll be Oprah. Here's what he told The Huffington Post: We're going to find out who Ron's first [...]

Parks and Rec Getting Extra-Length "Producer's Cuts"

Well this is a neat idea. Starting tonight, NBC is going to be posting longer versions of Parks and Rec online, featuring more scenes and such that they couldn't fit in the broadcast versions. Friday mornings at 2am EST, they'll put these guys online, which seem like they'd be worth waiting to watch instead of the broadcast versions. There will be Producer's Cuts for four episodes, and here's the schedule: Harvest Festival (3/17/11) — FULL EXTENDED EPISODE available 2 AM (3/18)

Jerry's Painting (4/28/11) — FULL EXTENDED EPISODE available 2 AM (4/29)

The Fight (5/12/11) (note there are 2 episodes airing that night 9:30-10 & 10-10:30 / The Fight [...]

"I think coolness is kind of the death of good television."

"I think coolness is kind of the death of good television. I think if you’re too concerned with being cool or hip or liked, you can’t really make good TV because sincerity and coolness are opposites. And when you have main characters in your show crying, like, three times in an episode, I find it great, but it’s also not super-cool and ironic and arch and raised-eyebrow and hipster-y. I just far prefer it. If a show ever tries to be cool, then it’s going to be doing something wrong." — Parks and Rec's Michael Schur in the final part of The AV Club's amazing run-through of the latest [...]

Parks And Rec's Nick Offerman Eats a Ron Swanson Turkey Burger; the Pop Culture Snake Eats its Tail

Last night on Jimmy Fallon, Nick Offerman, who plays Ron Swanson on Parks And Rec, ate a Ron Swanson turkey burger, a five-pound meat monstrosity mentioned on "Soulmates" and soon made manifest via the awesome power of the internet and

Amy Poehler Offers Bill Murray A Modest Sum To Govern Pawnee

Last night on Jimmy Fallon, Amy Poehler begged Bill Murray play the mayor on Parks & Recreation, like how the police would hold a press conference to ask for Superman for help. "I feel like Bill Murray doesn't have a phone or a phone number. I think I heard that he doesn't have any people who work for him," Poehler muses, which of course necessitates making her case in front of the American public. After Amy describes how she almost arrived at Jimmy's show sans a veneer, she clamps her lips over her teeth and beseeches Murray to play the heretofore unforeseen Mayor Gunderson: "Bill Murray, if you're [...]

Proof That Nick Offerman Isn't Even Acting a Little Bit When He Plays Ron Swanson

Here's a video of Nick Offerman making a Ron Swanson bobblehead in his personal woodshop. Well, it's him making most of a bobblehead and then blowing some sawdust off a pre-made one, but let's not let that get in the way of the real goods of this video: that Nick Offerman is Ron Swanson. I wouldn't even be surprised if the writers at Parks and Rec have never given him a script and just gotten extraordinarily lucky when every time the cameras roll Nick just says the things they've written for Ron, because they are the most natural things for Nick/Ron to say.

Parks & Rec Showrunner Michael Schur on Jerry, Donna and Needing That Second Season

I'm not going to lie; I was one of those people who saw the first episode of Parks & Rec and thought, "Eh, we're doing this again? With the cameras?" Now I sleep in a sleeping bag I sewed to look like Jerry, so the joke's on me. Veteran of SNL and an original writer on the American version of The Office, Parks & Rec showrunner Michael Schur talks with the A.V. Club about how to create a successful show, and why docu-comedies might need a second season to truly win over an audience: "There’s another big thing — and I think it’s more applicable to The Office [...]

Bill Murray to Play Pawnee's Mayor on Parks and Rec?

Last night, Michael Ausiello hosted a Parks and Rec panel at PaleyFest, featuring many of the producers, writers and cast of the show. They talked about all sorts of stuff, including what to expect in upcoming episodes. One of the most fun tidbits? That Amy Poehler really wants to get Bill Murray to play heretofore-unseen Pawnee mayor Walter Gunderson.

Sure, Murray is about as hard to pin down as anyone in Hollywood, but that would be a pretty amazing get. And hey, the guy seems to have pretty great taste when it comes to picking projects. Do it, Murray.

Also confirmed: there is no danger of Rob Lowe leaving [...]
