BBC America Orders Chris Hardwick's 'Nerdist' Show to Series

BBC America has just picked up Chris Hardwick's TV series The Nerdist for a 10-episode season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Hardwick has been hosting a series of hour-long Nerdist specials for BBC America since last year, but now, it'll be a regular weekly show. This comes in addition to his post-Walking Dead talk show Talking Dead on AMC, which was recently expanded from a half-hour to a full hour and will return in February. Based on Hardwick's popular podcast and blog of the same name, The Nerdist will see Hardwick joined by his podcast co-hosts Jonah Ray and Matt Mira for a series of hour-long shows [...]

NBC Cautiously Picks Up More Episodes of 'Guys with Kids'

NBC has ordered four more episodes of its new sitcom Guys with Kids, bringing the episode order from 13 to 17, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Jimmy Fallon-produced parenting series stars Jesse Bradford, Anthony Anderson, and Zach Cregger and has been earning modest but dependable ratings throughout its first season so far. The show generally improved on the ratings of its now-canceled lead-in Animal Practice and managed to retain most of Whitney's audience after that show's premiere last night. NBC ordering only 4 additional episodes instead of the typical 9-episode back order means they're being careful, which makes sense considering Guys with Kids' ratings aren't great. So, America, you [...]

Adult Swim Picks Up Dan Harmon's New Animated Show, Coming in 2014

We reported earlier this year that Dan Harmon created an Adult Swim pilot called Rick and Morty with his Channel 101 cohort Justin Roiland, but just this weekend, it was announced via Roiland's Twitter that Adult Swim has ordered the show to series. Harmon and Dino Stamatopoulos's production company, Starburns Industries, also confirmed the news via Twitter. The first season order is for ten half-hour episodes that are expected to air in late 2013. Rick and Morty follows a genius inventor and his non-genius grandson and is based on Roiland's old Channel 101 shorts "The Real Animated Adventures of Doc and Mharti," which are based [...]

FX Wants More 'Totally Biased' and 'Brand X'

The FX network has renewed both of its new late night comedy talk shows, Brand X with Russell Brand and Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell, for a 13-episode second season each, according to The NY Times' Dave Itzkoff. Brand X will be expanding from 30 minutes to one hour for the new season, but will noted quiet guy Russell Brand be able to muster up enough conversation to fill an hour every week? Time will tell.

HBO Orders Stephen Merchant's 'Hello Ladies' to Series

The Office and Extras co-creator Stephen Merchant's HBO pilot Hello Ladies just got picked up by the pay cable network for an eight-episode run, Deadline reports. Merchant writes, directs, and stars in the new series, in which he'll play a gawky Englishman looking for love in the States. The pilot co-starred Nate Torrence, Christine Woods, and Kevin Weisman, and the show will be produced by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who worked on the US version of The Office. We've seen a lot of Ricky Gervais since Extras went off the air, but it'll be nice to get some more Stephen Merchant on the TV screen for [...]

Comedy Central Renews 'Key & Peele' for a Third Season

Great news for fans of great comedy today as Comedy Central just announced it's renewed the critically-acclaimed sketch show Key & Peele for a third season consisting of 13 episodes. The first two seasons of Key & Peele only ran 8 and 10 episodes respectively, so the third season is getting a larger order than usual. The sketch show's second season concludes tomorrow night, which will be the last new episode before season three premieres in the fall of 2013. Somebody start a petition to get Liam Neesons to guest star on the new season right away.

'Wilfred' Is Getting a New Season and New Showrunners

FX has picked up Wilfred for a third season, and Deadline reports the show will have two new bosses in the writers' room when it comes back. David Zuckerman, who adapted Wilfred from the Australian original and served as showrunner for Seasons 1 and 2, is choosing to step down, and he's being replaced by two staff Wilfred writers/producers, Reed Agnew and Eli Jorné. This is FX's first sitcom pick-up since renewing Louie in August, and hopefully Wilfred will make it back for its new season before Louie does in 2014, which still sounds like a really long way away.
