'Parks and Recreation' Renewed for Season 6

With Parks and Recreation being one of NBC's only comedies doing okay in the ratings these days, it's been considered a shoo-in for a sixth season renewal all year long. And lo and behold, NBC officially confirmed today that the show has been picked up for a new season set to debut this fall. The timeslot and number of episodes for Season 6 have not been revealed at this time, but NBC will be announcing its fall schedule on Sunday. Parks and Rec's fifth season finale aired last week, with co-creator/showrunner Mike Schur telling Hitfix that he wrote the episode to set up a lot of plot threads in [...]

Comedy Central Renews 'Nathan for You' for a Second Season

Comedy Central did the right thing today and picked up its critically-acclaimed series Nathan for You for a second season. Billed as a "docu-reality" series that follows comedian Nathan Fielder as he uses his business degree to advise struggling companies, Nathan for You is easily TV's best new comedy, and it should get even better in its second season. Created by Fielder and Michael Koman (Eagleheart, Conan),  Nathan For You wrapped its eight-episode first season last week. The network says Season 2 will debut in 2014 and consist of 10 episodes this time around. Hopefully, Comedy Central will allow Fielder to strap himself to the front of a plane to [...]

TBS Renewing 'Cougar Town' for a Fifth Season Means There's Hope for 'Happy Endings'

TBS announced yesterday that they've greenlit a fifth season of Cougar Town, which means the cable network's move to rescue the low-rated ABC show paid off. This is great news for all ratings-challenged network shows, but especially for Happy Endings, another critically-acclaimed ABC series that is on the verge of cancellation this season.

Cougar Town debuted its fourth season on TBS in January, and the show's been averaging 2.8 million viewers an episode (and 1.7 mil with adults 18-49), which isn't too far from the numbers it was earning on ABC. Cougar Town is currently TBS's top-rated original primetime show ever with both adults 18-49 and total viewers. The fact that the network [...]

Comedy Central Renews 'Kroll Show' for a Second Season After Two Episodes

Comedy Central renewed its new sketch comedy series Kroll Show for a second season today after only two episodes have aired. The quick renewal is a testament to Kroll Show's high ratings (it pulled in just over a million viewers in its first two showings), internet popularity, and the amount of faith the network has in the series. While the first season order is only for eight episodes, the second season is for 10. Nick Kroll, who co-created and stars in the series, will have to schedule Kroll Show's new season around production of the fifth season of FX's The League, on which he also stars. Kroll now joins [...]

HBO Renews 'Girls' for a Third Season Before Season 2 Even Starts

Lena Dunham's HBO series Girls has been renewed for a third season, Judd Apatow reveals in a recent interview with The Hot Button in promotion of his new movie This Is 40. Apatow says (at the interview's 34-minute mark), "We're about to shoot the third season of Girls. Season 2 starts in January." It's a rare move for a network to pick up a show for an additional season before the latest season has aired, but given Girls' popularity with critics, audiences, and awards voters alike, it makes sense that HBO would give the series an early renewal. The best news about all this? We can look forward [...]

HBO Renews 'Veep' for a Third Season

HBO announced today that they've renewed the critically-acclaimed, Emmy-winning comedy Veep for a third season. Created by UK comedy mastermind Armando Iannucci and starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the U.S. Vice President, the series began airing its second season last month and earned its highest ratings for the season yet this past weekend. Tony Hale, Anna Chlumsky, Matt Walsh, Reed Scott, Timothy Simons, Sufe Bradshaw, and Kevin Dunn. Like the second season, the third season order is for 10 episodes. The new season is expected to debut sometime next year, so once Veep Season 2 wraps, you'll just have to start paying attention to Joe Biden for a few months [...]

MTV Renews 'Nikki & Sara Live' for a Season 2

MTV is bringing its new late night talk show, Nikki & Sara Live, back for another season. The program, which had its first season wrap up this week, is hosted by comedians Nikki Glaser and Sara Schaefer from a Times Square studio, where they make pop culture jokes, do sketches and man on the street bits, and interview a celebrity each episode. The show's second season, like its first, will consist of 12 episodes that are expected to air this summer. Glaser and Schaefer learned about MTV renewing their series from Katie Couric while taping an interview for her daytime show yesterday, which is how all TV show renewals should [...]

Fox Renews 'New Girl,' 'The Mindy Project,' and 'Raising Hope'

Fox is keeping pretty much all of its comedies for the 2013-2014 TV season. The network just announced that its Tuesday night comedies, Raising Hope, New Girl, and The Mindy Project, have been renewed for a fourth, third, and second season, respectively. The early renewal comes as some surprise, as The Mindy Project and Raising Hope have seen their audiences drop off a little bit, but the new season will bring Hope to the number of episodes needed for a lucrative syndication deal and Mindy has seen the show drawing stronger and stronger reviews from critics and audiences alike following a ton of midseason retooling. The only Fox comedies not [...]

Showtime Renews 'House of Lies,' 'Californication,' and 'Shameless'

Showtime just handed out renewal orders to a trio of shows, comedy-dramas House of Lies, Californication, and Shameless. It'll be the third season for House of Lies, which stars Don Cheadle, Kristen Bell, Ben Schwartz, ans Josh Lawson; the seventh season for David Duchovny-led Californication, and the fourth for William H. Macy vehicle Shameless. Showtime says the three shows have each experienced a year-to-year gain in viewership. All three are currently airing new episodes on Sunday nights through early April and will pick up again with these new seasons in 2014, which sounds really far away but isn't anymore.

Fox Orders Up Another Season of 'Bob's Burgers' with a Side of Burger Puns

Fox just announced it has picked up animated comedy Bob’s Burgers for a full 22-episode fourth season, expected to begin airing next fall. The show, currently in the midst of Season Three, just received an order for an additional six scripts from Fox a few weeks back, but this fourth season news is infinitely more exciting for fans of the Emmy-nominated program. Bob's Burgers' current season continues to air Sunday nights at 8:30, with big-name guests like Jon Hamm, Bill Hader, Sarah Silverman, Aziz Ansari, and Jeffrey Tambor lending their voices this time around. 22 episodes means the Bob's Burgers writers have a lot more burger puns to come [...]

'The Eric Andre Show' Gets a Season 2

Eric Andre's absurd Adult Swim anti-talk show is getting another season. Accompanied by his bored co-host Hannibal Buress, each episode of The Eric Andre Show finds the comedian playing host to a chaotic, nightmarish talk show with a mix of real and fake guests and hidden camera pranks. The second season is set to premiere on Adult Swim this October. Earlier this season, Andre played a supporting role on ABC's now-canceled Don't Trust the B—-. He recently starred in a Greg Daniels-produced sitcom pilot for NBC. Following a group of 20somethings and their dating lives in a big city, the show is in contention for a spot on the [...]

TBS Renews 'Conan' Through 2015

With the Leno/Fallon changing of the guard at NBC and a shuffle of other late night hosts expected as a result, it looks like Conan O'Brien is staying put at TBS. The cable network announced today that they've renewed Conan through November 2015. His previous contract was set to run up in April of 2014. Conan has settled into modest ratings since its high-rated debut on TBS in November of 2010. This week, the Conan gang is in Atlanta to host a week of shows from the city in conjunction with the NCAA's Final Four.

The contract renewal keeps Conan out of the mix for a series of big [...]

IFC Renews 'Comedy Bang Bang' for a 20-Episode Second Season

IFC announced today that it's renewed the sketch comedy/talk show Comedy Bang Bang for a second season, doubling its first season order for a total of 20 episodes this time around. These 20 episodes will air in two chunks of 10, one in third quarter 2013 and the other in fourth quarter 2013. Production on Season 2 is apparently already happening in LA. Hosted by Scott Aukerman, the man behind the podcast and long-running LA live show of the same name, Comedy Bang Bang, debuted on IFC last summer with a 10-episode season that featured big-name guests (Zach Galifianakis, Amy Poehler, Jon Hamm) and comedy nerd favorites (Paul F. [...]

FX Renews 'The League' for Season Five

The FX network just announced that it's picked up its long-running sitcom The League for a fifth season. Season 5 will kick off (get it? it's a sports show) next fall and run for 13 episodes. The League creators Jackie and Jeff Schaffer told fans they have big, mysterious plans for the first episode of Season 5 in a Reddit AMA in October, saying, "We pitched the Season 5 premiere episode to FX back in May when we presented all 13 of Season 4. They're crazy if they don't let you guys see that show. It will be insane." The League's double-episode Season 4 finale airs tonight [...]
