ABC Will Burn Off the Rest of the 'Happy Endings' Season on Fridays

ABC has been moving Happy Endings around the schedule a lot this season, and it looks like the show's troubles are far from over. First, the network put the critically-acclaimed comedy on in a very competitive Tuesday night slot before trying it out on Sunday and then pulling it from both slots. Now, the network has announced it will begin airing the show in back-to-back installments Friday nights at 8pm beginning March 29th. It's a bummer for Happy Endings and its fans, as this is typically referred to in TV as the "Friday night death slot" and is a sure sign of cancellation, but maybe what night a show [...]

ABC Sets Frustrating Premiere Dates

UGH! First Community wasn't set to premiere until October 19 and now Happy Endings won't start until October 23. Why are you doing this to us, Mickey Mouse? (Mickey Mouse is the head of programming for all of the Disney-ABC Television Group, right?) This gives them only a week before they have to follow up their classic Halloween episode from last season. Other things of note: Modern Family is set to premiere on September 26, assuming the show has working actors. It will be followed by The Neighbors, which will move to its 8:30 slot a few weeks later to make way for Suburgatory's October 17 premiere. [...]

Summing Up All of Last Night's Crazy NBC Scheduling News

We reported earlier in the evening that Anne Heche's Save Me and Ryan Murphy's The New Normal were joining Matthew Perry's Go On in NBC's fall schedule. Even later last night, NBC picked two more single-camera sitcom pilots, 1600 Penn and Animal Practice. 1600 Penn is a White House-set family sitcom, co-created and starring Josh Gad. Animal Practice is a comedy set in the office of a curmudgeonly veterinarian (Justin Kirk). Also announced was that Greg Daniels's Friday Night Dinner, Sarah Silverman, Hilary Winston, and Roseanne's Downwardly Mobile no longer have a shot to be picked up.

Will these new comedies affect our old favorites? Yes, pretty significantly. To make [...]

ABC Pulls 'Happy Endings' and 'Don't Trust the B—-' from Sunday

ABC began airing its low-rated Tuesday night comedies Happy Endings and Don't Trust the B—- in an additional slot Sunday nights earlier this month, but both shows scored series lows (being on without any promotion and up against the Golden Globes doesn't help) on Sundays these past two weeks and they've been pulled from their last Sunday airing, which was supposed to occur this coming week. Happy Endings and Don't Trust the B—- will continue to air in their normal Tuesday slots, until they're cleared out to make room for the Dancing with the Stars results show on March 19th. This will leave a handful of episodes [...]

'The Neighbors' and 'Suburgatory' Trade Time Slots

When ABC first released its schedule, freshman sitcom The Neighbors was in the coveted Wednesday 9:30 pm, post-Modern Family slot. Well, ABC has changed its mind and moved it to 8:30, swapping it with Suburgatory. There are plenty of reasons for the switch but the most likely seems to be that The Neighbors is too unabashedly kid-friendly from 9:30. It's a show about a family living in a town made up of aliens. Watch the trailer below; it feels like it could be played on Saturday afternoons, after cartoons. On the other hand, Suburgatory is a bit more adult and bit more subtly peculiar. This could be a [...]

NBC Could Be Expanding Its Thursday Night Comedy Block to Three Hours

It's been an open question since NBC picked up Outsourced for a full season: where the hell were they going to put Parks and Recreation? Would they stick it in a new night, paired with untested new shows and away from the traditional Thursday night block? Maybe not, it turns out.

Comedy Central Offers Its Fall Schedule and New Specials from Demetri Martin and Chris Hardwick

As time goes on, Comedy Central becomes less and less comedy's center but, as their fall schedule can attest, they still have some tricks up their sleeves. One being T.J. Miller's Mash Up, which has stand-ups like Hannibal Buress, Pete Holmes, and Reggie Watts perform sets, from which sketches are then performed. Comedy Central also announced their next few stand-up specials, which includes a new hour from Demetri Martin, Chris Hardwick, D.L. Hughley, and, so it goes, Jeff Dunham. Of course, Key & Peele and South Park will be back. Check out all the premiere dates below, if you dare…which you should because there's literally no danger in [...]

NBC Plans to Premiere 'Go On' in August and 'Community' in October

As a way to thoroughly promote their gallons and gallons of sitcom material, NBC is going to stagger all of the premieres. To capitalize on the Olympic eyeballs, Matthew Perry's Go On (or as I like to call it, "The one with a dead wife") is going to debut on August 8th, which is perfect because after people cheer on sports they love to watch a really sad sitcom pilot about moving on after a tragedy. (In all seriousness, the pilot is quite good and this might be really helpful.) The exceedingly more whimsical Animal Practice is also going to get some Olympic support as well on August 12th. So what about [...]
