'Dumb and Dumber' Sequel Back On; Directors Aiming for a Summer 2014 Release

We reported last week that Dumb and Dumber To, the long-awaited sequel to Dumb and Dumber, had been dropped by its studio, Warner Brothers, but co-writer/co-director Peter Farrelly announced today that Universal is picking up distribution to the film and he hopes to start shooting in August. Farrelly made the announcement on an episode of the Nerdist podcast recorded last week. "Long story short, we're going to another studio," Farrelly explained. He added, "That's what's held this thing up because we're negotiating with two different studios — Warner Brother and New Line — about how to get it out of there."

Farrelly confirmed that original stars Jim Carrey [...]

Gillian Jacobs and Chevy Chase Join 'Hot Tub Time Machine 2' for a Little 'Community' Reunion

Community star Gillian Jacobs and ex-Community star Chevy Chase have both joined the cast of the long-awaited sequel to Hot Tube Time Machine, Deadline reports. Chase starred in the original movie in a supporting role as a mysterious hot tub repairman, while Jacobs is new to the franchise, playing the movie's female lead. In addition to Chase, Hot Tub Time Machine 2 sees director Steve Pink, co-writer Josh Heald, and stars Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, and Clark Duke returning. Adam Scott is taking John Cusack's place as the lead. Corddry has revealed that Scott is playing Cusack's character's son, who the gang goes to visit 10 [...]

Will Forte and Writing Partners Are Locking Themselves in a Room to Write 'MacGruber 2'

While Will Forte's SNL spinoff action-comedy MacGruber didn't do so hot at the box office when it was released three summers ago, the movie has gone on to become a cult hit and a favorite amongst comedy nerds. Forte and Company first began talking about MacGruber 2 last year, and today, he tells Rolling Stone, "June 10th my writing partners John Solomon, Jorma Taccone and I are locking ourselves in a room and writing it." He added, "We were happy with how the original came out. I guess you wouldn't call it a success but people got to see it, sometimes you just have to be happy [...]

Adam Scott in Talks to Replace John Cusack in 'Hot Tub Time Machine 2'

Adam Scott may be the new face of the Hot Tub Time Machine franchise. When a sequel to the 2010 time travel comedy was announced in January, stars Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, and Clark Duke were onboard but leading man John Cusack was not. Now, The Wrap reports that Parks and Recreation and Party Down star Adam Scott is in negotiations to play the sequel's lead character, a totally different character from Cusack's. Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink is returning and co-writing the script with Corddry, who didn't have a hand in writing the original. Although John Cusack was fine in the original, Adam Scott [...]

Dan Aykroyd Is Talking About 'Ghostbusters III' Again

Dan Aykroyd has been talking to the press about his dreams and hopes for Ghostbusters III for the past several years now, and he discussed the movie again in a new interview with ABC News. Aykroyd says he hopes to have filming take place in 2014, but that doesn't really mean anything really considering that the movie's been delayed so much. Filming was previously supposed to take place this summer but was delayed in October of last year. Here's Akyroyd today:

I feel re-encouraged, reinvigorated by the pages that I have seen. I know that we’re expecting half of the screenplay to be completed very [...]

Watch the First Full Trailer for 'Anchorman 2'

Here's the long-awaited full-length trailer for Anchorman 2, which features a ton of scenes from the film and reveals a little bit of the plot. Coming out this Christmas, the sequel picks up in the 1980s with Ron Burgundy and his news team reassembling after going their separate ways to join a 24-hour news network and have nice hair.

The '21 Jump Street' Sequel Will Be Called '22 Jump Street'

Following in the tradition of sequel titles like Ocean's Twelve and The Whole Ten Yards, Sony announced in a press release yesterday that the follow-up to 21 Jump Street will be called 22 Jump Street. The previous movie, a remake of the '80s show of the same name, came out last spring and earned good reviews and a ton of money at the box office, a rare feat for a big-budget studio comedy these days. Sony began developing the sequel to 21 Jump Street last year, before the first movie even hit theaters. It was previously announced that Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and Ice Cube will be returning [...]

Adam Scott's Next 'Greatest Event in Television History' Will Be 'Hart to Hart' with Amy Poehler

Last October, Parks and Recreation's Adam Scott debuted The Greatest Event in Television History, an Adult Swim special in which he and Jon Hamm recreated shot-for-shot the opening credits sequence to cheesy '80s detective show Simon & Simon. Scott has a second Greatest Event special, which was previously reported to star him, Amy Poehler, and Horatio Sanz, set to air June 6th, and TV Guide reveals today that the new special will see Scott and Poehler recreating the intro to the 1979-1984 series Hart to Hart, in which they'll take on the roles of Jonathan and Jennifer Hart, a millionaire and his wife who become amateur detectives. Horatio [...]

'Joe Dirt 2' Is a Real Thing That Is Happening

Don't worry, the Joe Dirt franchise is still alive and breathing. Crackle, Sony's digital network and studio, announced today that they'll be producing a sequel to the 2001 David Spade movie. The first film only grossed $27 million, but Spade cited the movie's high DVD sales at Wal-Mart (seriously) when he first started talking about a sequel in 2006. The sequel didn't materialize and Spade sold a Joe Dirt animated series to TBS in 2010. The project didn't move forward, but now Spade is prepping it as a digital movie for Crackle, to be released online streaming. A rep from Crackle said today that the Joe [...]

There's Already a Sequel for 'The Heat' in the Works

Fox is very confident that its upcoming Melissa McCarthy-Sandra Bullock buddy cop comedy The Heat will be a hit – so confident, in fact, that they've already started work on a sequel. Deadline reports that the studio has made "a pricey deal" with Katie Dippold, who scripted the first movie and previously wrote for Parks and Rec, to write a sequel. While it's a little crazy for the studio to be putting money and time into a sequel to a movie that doesn't come out until the summer, this kind of practice is fairly common in Hollywood. Jonah Hill and Michael Bacall were hired to write a 21 [...]

Studio Dumps 'Dumb and Dumber' Sequel with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels

The Dumb and Dumber sequel has run into another hurdle. Variety reports that Warner Bros. has dropped the project, which was set to see original stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels and original writing/directing duo the Farrelly brothers returning. The sequel, entitled Dumb and Dumber To, has been in the works for over two years with Jim Carrey leaving the project last year over frustrations with the studio and coming right back, only to hit more studio problems this week.  The sequel picks up 20 years after the original film when Harry and Lloyd find out that one of them may have fathered a child [...]

T.J. Miller Will Be the Only Possible Reason to Watch 'Transformers 4'

The new Transformers movie just got a little more bearable. The Wrap reports that comedian T.J. Miller (She's Out of My League, Yogi Bear) has joined the cast of Michael Bay's latest robot thing, called Transformers 4 and starring Mark Wahlberg. Miller will be playing Wahlberg's best friend, a mechanic who we presume will be a "wisecracking mechanic." Miller is currently filming his first starring role in a movie, director Scot Armstrong's Search Party, which finds him playing one of three leads alongside Adam Pally (Happy Endings) and Thomas Middleditch (The Campaign), and a pilot for Mike Judge's Silicon Valley-set sitcom that he starred in was recently [...]

Here's a Spoiler-Filled Look at the 'Anchorman 2' News Brawl

Anchorman 2 is currently filming in Atlanta, and The Daily Mail snagged a bunch of pictures from the set during the filming of the movie's inevitable news anchor brawl. Click through to the post if you want to see 17 pictures of the scene, most of which spoil big-time cameos, none of which I'll reveal here. It looks like it's about 1000x crazier than the news fight in the first Anchorman and should make for a pretty delightful scene.

Ice Cube and Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller Will Be Back for '21 Jump Street 2'

The 21 Jump Street sequel is starting to take shape. Collider has an interview with producer Neal Moritz, in which he reveals that Ice Cube will be back as the police captain, with original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller attached to return too. It was previously announced that Jonah Hill and the first movie's screenwriter, Michael Bacall, are working on the script. Hill and Channing Tatum are expected to return in the lead roles with a summer 2014 release in mind.

Here's all the non-boring stuff Moritz said about the sequel:

It leads off where we ended the last film and our guys are going to college [...]
