FX's Sons of Anarchy isn't really a comedy. It's got its funny moments, sure, but the biker-based drama is more dark than hilarious. That'll change with creator Kurt Sutter's next potential series for FX, Diva. Clown. Killer. He just made a deal to write a pilot script for the network, and it sounds…crazy. It's described as "a dark, absurd comedy about an 80′s has-been rock diva, her dysfunctional son who makes his living as kid’s party clown, and of course, an assassin." He's looking to snag Sons of Anarchy/Married with Children's Katy Segal for the lead role. And then presumably there'd be a Modern Family/Diva. Clown. Killer. crossover [...]

Michael Just-the-best Fox is working on a new single-camera project with director Will Gluck (Easy A) and writer Sam Laybourne (Cougar Town, Arrested Development). Are you excited? Well either way, the networks surely are, probably because Fox is deservedly well-liked and has had multiple hit sitcoms. The situation is being described as a "bidding war" and a "feeding frenzy." There is even talk that one network is offering a direct to series deal, which is nuts and never happens anymore with the big four networks. There's no official word yet on what the show will be about, though the word on the street is that it'll shoot in New [...]

Early next year, fake gladiator Russell Crowe is set to make his directorial debut with a movie about comedy legend Bill Hicks. The film was written by Mark Staufer, a screenwriting newbie/high school friend of Crowe's. Crowe was originally rumored to play Hicks but that's thankfully no longer the case. Hicks does have a very interesting, tragic story and would've undoubtedly hated however this film will get marketed.

Comedy's foremost gentleman, Paul F. Tompkins, is working on a pilot for Comedy Central called Nightcap, which is being described as "a humorous and interactive look at the world of popular culture as Paul and a recurring group of his funny friends offer their unique take on the most talked-about stories of the day.” Eban Schletter will be providing live piano accompaniment like he so wonderfully does on the Pod F. Tompkast. It's the type of show that Comedy Central seems to be always looking for to slide into the post Daily Show/Colbert Report slot. I guess, it might be time to start looking for a three-piece pajama suit.

Bill Murray's next movie St. Vincent De Van Nuys, just found a new home at The Weinstein Company. According to Deadline, the studio will be financing and distributing the film, which is the feature directorial debut of the movie's writer Ted Melfi. Murray signed on to the project this summer, which he'll star in as a debaucherous older guy who starts looking after the 12-year-old son of a single mother, his neighbor. The man teaches the kid all about gambling, fighting, stealing, and other dirtbag stuff, but the boy only takes away the good from all this. Here's writer/director Ted Melfi describing meeting Bill Murray, who's always [...]

Where'd You Go Bernadette is a novel about a mother named Bernadette who goes missing, leaving her teenage daughter to fend for herself. It was written Maria Semple, who previously wrote for Mad About You, Suddenly Susan, and, most importantly Arrested Development. The subject of a bidding war, it eventually ended up with Annapurna Pictures, who in turn hired 500 Days of Summer scribes Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber to pen the screenplay. Without reading Bernadette, let's just assume the film will be 500 Days of Summer but starring instead George-Michael and Maeby. I bet Maeby's favorite Beatle would be Ringo, as well.

Bill Murray is in talks to star in St. Vincent De Van Nuys. The film is the sort of dramedy that Murray usually stars in these days and focuses on a coming-of-age tween who becomes friends with a misanthropic war veteran. (Guess which one Murray will play?) Murray's character will be a fan of drinking, gambling, and prostitutes – you know, the things you'd expect from one of Murray's grumpy roles. It was a very hot, acclaimed script, so it sounds like a good opportunity for Murray to still be the best.

John "Johnny" Depp is set to star in Wes Anderson's next VERY Wes Andersony named film, The Grand Budapest Hotel. Owen Wilson will be back with his old pal for this one and of course Bill Murray is being rumored for a role. Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum(!), Jude Law, Adrien Brody, and Angela Lansbury are also in talks. Actually, Lansbury is the only female being talked about at all for the film, which suggests a variety of plots: 1. She runs the Grand Budapest "Hotel", which is actually a brothel. 2. She is the Grand Budapest Hotel. Sounds crazy but remember she has played a tea pot, so [...]

Nikki Glaser and Sara Schaefer have been killing it with their comedy podcast "You Had to Be There," and MTV took notice. They've hired the two comedians to launch The Nikki and Sara Show, a weekly 11pm show set to debut later this year. Here's what to expect: For their new show, Glaser and Schaefer will tell jokes, star in sketches, interview regular people on the street and welcome celebrity guests. (Nikki and Sara will tape in the same Times Square studio that was once home to MTV's TRL.)
Sounds awesome! But they should be careful, as I've heard that the ghost of Carson Daly still haunts [...]
Good buds and Happy Endings co-workers Adam Pally and Gil Ozeri have just sold a comedy movie to Disney. What the comedy will be about is still a mystery, but it'll be produced by Gary Sanchez’s Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Chris Henchy and Kevin Messick. Not a bad lineup! Can't wait to hear more about this one as it develops.

NBC has just bought a new sitcom from Executive Producer Chelsea Handler, one starring and written by Ingrid Haas. Here's how Deadline describes the project: "Based on Haas’ real life, the relationship comedy centers around a father and daughter. When Ingrid’s parents come to visit her in Los Angeles, she accidentally breaks up their marriage, forcing Ingrid’s dad, Wayne, to move in with her and her roommate in their Melrose Place-style apartment building." Sounds fun!
A regular at the UCB theater in LA as well as a classically trained Shakespearian actress, Haas was in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, amongst other projects. A good example of her work [...]

Conan O'Brien is producing a new talk show to be hosted by beloved comedian/frequent smiler Pete Holmes. The show is being described as a "slight departure from the typical talk-show format," which could mean anything: maybe Pete is standing the whole time – maybe there's no actual talking, so all interviewing is done solely by body language – maybe Pete will wear an eyepatch. This is like the 70th show Conan is producing for TBS, including a couple sitcoms and Deon Cole's video clip show. Conan sure keeps it crispy.

Steve Carell, Toni Colette, Maya Rudolph, Rob Corddry, Amanda Peet, Sam Rockwell are starring in a film written, directed, and co-starring Nat Faxon and Jim Rash. No, you are not dreaming – you're reading a blog post about a real movie. That movie, which starts shooting on Monday, is called The Way, Way Back and is about a teenager (played by The Killing's Liam James) who befriends a water park manager (Rockwell). This movie is going to be like a waterslide; there will be some ups and downs and you will be leaning back and not wearing a shirt and Maya Rudolph will be there and— OK, yeah, [...]
