SXSW Adds Chelsea Peretti, Amy Schumer, and Jena Friedman to Comedy Lineup After Backlash

After South by Southwest announced their comedy lineup, it was tough to not notice that of 31 of the comedians scheduled, only one was a women. That was kind of shitty! After a bit of a backlash at the conference for being so gender imbalanced, they've added three new lady comics to the festivities: Chelsea Peretti, Amy Schumer, and Jena Friedman. Great comics, all!

Whether or not they added three more women because of the backlash or were working on getting them beforehand, it's great to see them added to the lineup.

South by Southwest's Statement About the Lack of Women in Their Comedy Lineup

South by Southwest has responded to the hubbub about their comedy offerings at this year's festival consisting of 30 dudes and 1 lady. Here's their statement in full: If you follow SXSW, you may know that our initial announcements are rarely complete, and this year is no exception. While we're proud of the roster of great comedians set to join us in Austin next month, we were disappointed by the fact that we could only include one woman in our initial release.

We've been working on finalizing arrangements with other well-known female comics for quite some time and we hope to announce more soon.

South by Southwest Announces an Almost Exclusively Male Comedy Lineup

Austin's yearly hipster/nerd conference South by Southwest just announced the lineup for it's comedy offerings, and there are lots and lots of amazing, talented, hilarious people performing. It's going to be great! There's an almost overwhelming about of top-notch comedic talent all in one place. But here's the problem: of the 31 comics they booked, 30 of them are men. Hm.
