The 'Party Down' Movie Is Still Moving Forward and Won't Need Kickstarter

In the past few days, Party Down co-creator Rob Thomas has raised over $3.5 million dollars to make a movie follow-up to his other cult hit series Veronica Mars, leading fans to wonder whether the same future is in store for Party Down. It turns out no Kickstarter is necessary, as Thomas and company are raising funding for it the old-fashioned way: through movie studios and production companies. Thomas tells HuffPo today, "We're still hopeful that there will be a Party Down movie without Kickstarter. We're already in the process of trying to make that happen, and I can't say too much about that. There is [...]

Ted Danson Says the 'Bored to Death' TV Movie Is Being Written

Back in June, we reported that a 90-minute Bored to Death HBO movie was in the earliest stages of development, but now, word comes in from the series' star Ted Danson that creator Jonathan Ames is hard at work on a script. While speaking at the GQ Gentleman's Ball last week, The Wall Street Journal reports that Danson said, "The deal is about to be signed… [Jonathan Ames] is writing it as we speak. I’m very excited." He proceeded to spill the beans on some plot details: "I think Jason [Schwartzman] becomes a policeman, which means, for him, a traffic cop. He’ll have a traffic-cop go-kart kind [...]

The Party Down Movie May Be Declared A Ron Donald Do

We continue your nonstop 24-hour coverage of the possibility of a Party Down movie with this Adam Scott soundbite: “We have a treatment, and if everyone’s schedules work out, we’ll shoot it over the summer.” BOOM. I guess that means Starz agreed to sign off on the thing. It also means that a Party Down movie and an Arrested Development movie could potentially be in theaters AT THE SAME TIME, which might make some less-equipped movie theaters explode with the massively high pressure of realized dreams. God, imagine the carnage. Popcorn and Jujyfruits would be everywhere.

Jennifer Saunders Is Writing An Absolutely Fabulous Movie

Ab Fab creator and star Jennifer Saunders will start to "write the feature film version next year once she has finished work on the Spice Girls London stage musical Viva Forever," which is the best sentence fragment ever and something I aspire to say one day. "Oh, writing that movie? Right as soon as I finish my SPICE GIRLS MUSICAL." Anyway, the movie comes after the announcement of three new Ab Fab specials, and its plot will involve "Patsy and Edina waking up hung-over in the empty drifting yacht of an oligarch in the middle of the ocean." Like The Hangover at sea, but more British.

Somebody's Making a 'Good Times' Movie

There's no deal signed for an Arrested Development movie yet, but Sony Pictures is working to turn the 1970s sitcom Good Times into a feature film. Deadline reports that Sony and producer Scott Rudin (True Grit, The Social Network) have teamed up and hired Phil Johnston (Cedar Rapids, Wreck-It Ralph) to write the script. Developed by Norman Lear, Good Times ran for six seasons on CBS from 1974 to 1979 and followed an African-American family living in a Chicago housing project. The movie will be set in the '60s. There currently isn't a cast or director attached to the film, but you can imagine a lot of actors [...]

Party Down Movie Definitely Happening With Full Cast, Says Megan Mullally

Megan Mullally announced at a press event for Breaking In (some comedy show that isn't Party Down) that the full cast (with the possible exception of Jane Lynch) is in for the Party Down movie, and that John Enbom is writing the script, the outline for which was "enthusiastically approved" by investors. Enthusiastically approved! Mullally also said that we may meet "Lydia's ex-husband – Ed I think is [his] name – who was really racist and a misogynist." Weird, I didn't think it was possible to salivate this much without choking on my own spit.

A Flight of the Conchords Movie Is Possibly in the Works

It's Business Time! Bret McKenzie, post-Muppet -songwriting, said that he and Jemaine Clement are "going to try and do a movie." A Flight of the Conchords movie would be amazing, If You're Into It. And as long as You Don't Have to Be a Prostitute to go see it in theaters. Ooh, I hope they get Kristen Schaal to return as Mel (or some other Leggy Blonde), otherwise there might be Too Many Dicks (on the Dance Floor). Really, if it happens, this movie could be the Most Beautiful [Movie] (In the Room). Think About It. Foux Da Fa Fa.

How About This For The Arrested Development Movie Plot?

Screenrant reports that a source allegedly passed along the Arrested Development movie plot, so now if it's fake, we can all be disappointed together. According to a cast member, "Ron Howard is making a movie about the Bluths using an A-List cast. But Dr. Tobias plays himself because nobody wants to play him in the movie. The Bluths decide to make their own movie in contention with Ron Howard’s." As if Dave Attell wouldn't be chomping at the bit. Please. Their source also reports that an official announcement, including a synopsis of the plot, is due out in a few weeks.

It's Official: A 'Bored to Death' Movie Is Happening

Late last year, Ted Danson said that a 90-minute movie based on the HBO show Bored to Death was in the very, very early stages, but now it's been officially confirmed by HBO. The Hollywood Reporter says that HBO Films is developing it as a potential feature film, written by creator Jonathan Ames. This conflicts with Danson's earlier statements that it would be a 90-minute TV movie instead of a full-length feature film, but the project potentially becoming a big theatrical movie sounds pretty appealing. Bored to Death, which ran three seasons before HBO canceled it in December 2011, scored modest numbers with audiences, but its three stars, [...]

The Flight of the Conchords Movie Is Getting Realer By the Day

It's not just a "flippant comment" anymore! Rhys Darby, who plays the best band manager slash Deputy Cultural Attaché in the universe, Murray, said on a New Zealand radio show that a Flight of the Conchords movie is "just a matter of finding time. And I think next year pen will hit paper." Hooray! I mean, we all know the actual writing of a script is the easy part. It's practically a formality. The thing is as good as made.

The Party Down Movie Is Tantalizingly Close to Happening

Thought we forgot about you, didn't you, promises of a Party Down movie? Not so fast! Wait, stop running away! Adam Scott said on the most recent WTF podcast that "a production company is interested in doing a 'low budget' version and that all they need is Starz to sign off on it." Sign off, Starz! What are you doing? Too busy airing Hellboy over and over? Ooh, Starz burn. Yeah, there's more where that came from, Starz. Better sign off on this movie so you don't have to find out.
