Megan Mullally: 'Party Down' Movie Has Financing, May Shoot Next Summer

On the most recent episode of Comedy Bang! Bang!, Megan Mullally let a couple of juicy details slip about the much-wished-for Party Down movie. The most encouraging news is that it appears that the movie has financing, pending script approval, which was one of the biggest hurdles to the film getting made. And once that script approval comes in and the money starts flowing, they're hoping to shoot next spring or summer during the hiatus for everyone's TV gigs.

And she made it very clear that the entire cast is super excited to get back into their bow ties, saying that there'd be "some sort of [...]

Arrested Development To Return With More Episodes, Confirm The Power Of Prayer

HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? This news implies some sort of supernatural intervention to me, by a force that surrounds us and penetrates us and binds the galaxy together but most importantly penetrates us. While on the show's panel at The New Yorker Festival this weekend with the cast, show creator Mitch Hurtwitz apparently revealed plans to give Arrested Development a new 9 or 10 episode run before going forward with the upcoming Arrested Development movie. 20th Century Fox is allegedly in talks with both Netflix and Showtime to potentially air the limited series, which will "have each installment focus on a different member of the Bluth clan."

19 Comedy Podcasts That Should Already Exist

Not that we’re exactly hurting for decent podcasts at this point, but if comedians are going to keep launching them all the time, well, we have a few requests. Being that this is a democracy and all, these suggestions should be considered with utmost sincerity. If you agree that these very reasonable requests should be honored, make your voice heard by bombarding the would-be hosts with tweets and emails until they relent and give us the free entertainment we so always deserve. If any of these podcasts do come to be, though, we expect 12% of the $0.00 they’ll earn monthly.

David Wain Wants to Make a Wet Hot American Summer Sequel/Prequel

It's been 10 years since Wet Hot American Summer was released. 10 years! A long time, but not so long that director/co-writer David Wain doesn't want to make a a sequel/prequel to the cult classic. Here's what he told the Q&A Podcast: "The prequel would be the same summer so they would be 20 years old for the part yeah, but not younger. So it would be 40 year olds playing 16 year olds. And yeah, we’re in the early stages of thinking about that." OK, I'm on board. Make it happen, please.

Jason Bateman: Plot of the Arrested Development Movie Is "Incredible"

Here is today's tiny scrap of information/hearsay/hope about the mythical Arrested Development movie: Jason Bateman met with Mitch Hurwitz last week about the in-progress script, and he says that the plot is "incredible" and left him "vibrating." Vibrating! That's good, right? He wasn't having a seizure or anything? We'll just assume it's a good thing and keep on planning to have our collective lives changed by this thing when it finally comes out.

"Prince Comes to Springfield," by Conan O'Brien and 9 Other Classic-Era Simpsons Episodes That Almost Were

In honor of the impending 500th episode of The Simpsons, former writer/showrunner (and current Portlandia writer/producer) Bill Oakley just tweeted the "top 10 episodes that were pitched, discussed, written but not aired." It's the best possible thought experiment: imagining just what these episodes would have been like had they been produced around season 7 of the show. I mean, come on, "Bart Gets 144 Jeeps"? "Prince Comes to Springfield" by Conan O'Brien?! Good god. And hey, it's not too late! Maybe one of these can become episode 513 or something.

And if you missed Oakley's contributions to this here website, which include a peek at how the early era [...]

Adam Scott: Party Down Movie "90% There," to Shoot Next Summer

The race for the Party Down movie to go into production before the Arrested Development movie continues, with Adam Scott saying that the plan is to shoot it next summer. WHY AREN'T YOU SHOOTING IT RIGHT NOW?

We’re like 90% there, we’re hoping to do it maybe next summer, if everyone’s schedules work out and the guys get time to write a script. They have kind of a skeleton of a story worked out so we know where it’s going to go but we just have to kind of cross the t’s and dot the i’s, or something. But Starz are being super cool and they’re going to [...]

So When are John Oliver and Wyatt Cenac Getting Their Own Show?

With the huge success of Daily Show spinoff The Colbert Report, one assumes that Comedy Central would love to spin off another late-night political comedy show from Jon Stewart's flagship. Might I suggest one with John Oliver and Wyatt Cenac? Perhaps some sort of panel show? Because really, pretty much any time these two are paired up for a desk bit on The Daily Show it is amazing. Here's last night's segment, in which our heroes look for examples of racially insensitive undertones in cable news. The best.

Is Dave Chappelle Plotting a Comeback?

Last night, Dave Chappelle did two surprise shows at Cobb's Comedy Club in San Francisco, both of which sold out in about an hour, naturally. Someone who was in the audience told me that he mentioned a comeback no less than five times during his set: Admittedly, Chappelle does not have an act, so he mostly riffed on current topics and interacted with the audience for about 90 minutes. Still, he was hilarious as always. Perhaps the most shocking thing, outside of the fact that Dave has bulked up considerably and could now be considered ripped, was how much he brought up a potential comeback. He even stated that [...]

Michael Showalter and Bravo Taunt Us With Promises of a Wet Hot American Sequel

Michael Showalter was Watch What Happens Live! on Bravo last night, where he gave the impression that a Wet Hot American Summer sequel would really be happening. Just as we were all trying on our Camp Firewood uniforms to see if they still fit, though, Michael Ian Black tweeted, "I just found out there's going to be a "Wet Hot American Summer" sequel from @mshowalter on TV. Apparently, I'm not in it." Alas! There go our once-buoyant hopes, dashed against the merciless rocks of reality. Why can't they just make this movie already?

The Party Down Movie Is Your New Arrested Development Movie

Which will come out first, do you think, if ever: Party Down: The Movie or Arrested Development: The Movie? Casts from both shows are asked about these mythical projects pretty much any time they're interviewed at this point, and both sound like they're in the works but could fall apart at any minute. I say let's combine the casts and have the Party Down crew cater a Bluth family reunion. Who's in? Someone get David Cross on the phone! I'm sure he's not sick of fielding questions about this. Let's get the ball rolling, people!

Anyways, here's a new, promising-sounding quote from Ken Marino about the Party [...]

Most of the Cast Wants to Do a Wet Hot American Summer Sequel, Too

It's not just writer/director David Wain that wants to do a sequel/prequel of Wet Hot American Summer, but most of the cast as well. Paul Rudd and Elizabeth Banks said that they'd do the movie for "essentially nothing," while Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, and Christopher Meloni have all said pretty much the same. We haven't heard from Amy Poehler or Bradley Cooper about it, but it seems like they've got enough people on board to do it with or without them. OK, that's settled, then. When can you guys start shooting?

Oh Boy, Is Will Arnett the New Michael Scott?

Will Arnett, previously teased by Ricky Gervais as his choice for Steve Carell's successor, is officially appearing on the hour-long season finale of the show alongside Gervais. Entertainment Weekly's sources "warn that one shouldn’t assume that just because Gervais and Arnett are in the finale, that either is going to replace Carell next season as the Office boss," but that sounds like some pretty soft ass-covering to me. Man, I can't really think of anyone better to replace Carell than Arnett. He'd bring so much to a role like that, making it uniquely his own, and getting to see him in a sitcom every week again would [...]
