Jesus, You're Funny: 'Black Jesus' and the Long History of Comedic Messiahs

Wherever Aaron McGruder goes, controversy follows. Black Jesus, McGruder's new live-action Adult Swim show starring Gerald "Slink" Johnson as the title character, debuts tonight amid criticisms from Christians of what they view to be blasphemous material, based not on screenings of full episodes but on footage from an extended trailer Adult Swim posted on July 18.

McGruder's last show, the just-recently-ended Boondocks, offended practically everybody. Conservatives objected to The Boondocks' raunchy material, progressives found the show to be misogynist and homophobic, a few of the show's satirical targets didn't take kindly to being satirized and threatened to sue either McGruder or Adult Swim, and Boondocks viewers were offended [...]

Here's the Trailer for '22 Jump Street'

22 Jump Street, the sequel to last year's 21 Jump Street reboot, is due out next summer, and this trailer for it just dropped. The previous movie, a remake of the '80s show of the same name, came out last spring and earned good reviews and a ton of money at the box office, a rare feat for a big-budget studio comedy these days. Sony began developing the sequel to 21 Jump Street last year, before the first movie even hit theaters. It was previously announced that Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and Ice Cube will be returning [...]

Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller Say Every One of Their Movies "Sounded Like a Terrible Idea"

"Everything we’ve ever done has been riding on low expectations. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs? What a terrible idea. Doing 21 Jump Street as a movie is a terrible idea. The LEGO Movie sounds like a terrible idea. If people think [22 Jump Street] is a good idea, we’re screwed."

- Director Chris Miller in an interview with Collider quelling expectations for 22 Jump Street by explaining that all of his and directing partner Phil Lord's movies sound awful on paper.
