Adam Carolla Sued for the Second Time in One Week

On Tuesday, we reported that wildly-popular podcaster Adam Carolla's company had been sued over a podcast patent dispute, and now, news come in that "The Ace-Man," as he prefers to be called, is adding another lawsuit to his plate. Carolla is being sued by former business partners Donny Misraje, Kathee Schneider-Misraje, and Sandy Ganz, who are claiming that Carolla broke their partnership agreement and failed to pay them for the work they invested in the business and rewards they deserved once said business became profitable. Donny Misraje is Carolla's ex-producer who convinced him to move to podcasting after his radio show was canceled in 2009. Misraje and [...]

Are Men Funny?

I am a man and now I'm certain I'll never be funny. Do you know any funny men? Morgan Murphy is pretty gender-neutral name; can she be a man? I've heard of this comedian named "Chris Rock" but that's probably short for Christine, right? I guess I'll just go back to school to be a businessman/lawyer/Strongman competitor.

Shut the Fuck Up, Adam Carolla

Larry Getlen over at the Post interviewed Adam Carolla today, and, well, he didn't really hold back when it came to his feelings towards women in comedy: The lesson you learned from a sexual harassment seminar was “Don’t hire chicks.” Do you hate working with women?

No. But they make you hire a certain number of chicks, and they’re always the least funny on the writing staff. The reason why you know more funny dudes than funny chicks is that dudes are funnier than chicks. If my daughter has a mediocre sense of humor, I’m just gonna tell her, “Be a staff writer for a sitcom. Because they’ll [...]

Adam Carolla Breaks Guinness World Record For Podcast Downloads

As announced on Jimmy Kimmel Wednesday night, Adam Carolla won the Guinness World Record for most downloaded podcast of all eternity, stretching back to the Big Bang. The award was formerly held by The Ricky Gervais Show, written by Gervais, Steven Merchant and Karl Pilkington, suggesting that all of Carolla's achievements going forward are going to be hyper-focused on getting more use out of that Uncle Sam costume.

Fox News Hires New Loudmouth Jerk: Adam Carolla

Dancing with the Stars contestant Adam Carolla just got a new job as a Fox News contributor, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The podcaster has appeared infrequently on Fox News in the past, but now, he'll be making a weekly appearance on The O'Reilly Factor just like fellow comedian-turned-pundit Dennis Miller, who's had a segment called "Miller Time" on The Factor for the past five years. Carolla will be doing his first regular O'Reilly Factor appearance on Monday evening and is expected to return to the show each Monday, in addition to contributing to other Fox News programs. Adam Carolla's political beliefs differ from those of most Fox [...]

Adam Carolla Doesn't Care about Backlash or Comedy

"I think about vintage racing all day… I don’t think about comedy, I don’t watch the shows, and I don’t read the blogs. People saying, 'Screw Adam, he’s not funny' — that doesn’t make a difference to me. I spend all day on eBay looking at race trailers, trying to figure out how to haul my racecars… I don’t even get involved with comedy." - Adam Carolla responding to the backlash to his "dudes are funnier than chicks" comments. This explains why he dropped references to The View in his explanation. Maybe next time when we ask someone whether men and women are equally as funny, which we probably [...]

Lisa Lampanelli, Adam Carolla & Arsenio Hall Will Compete on The Celebrity Apprentice

Yes, it seems that Lisa Lampanelli, comedian and former researcher for frequent Trump-teaser Spy magazine, will be a contestant on Donald Trump's The Celebrity Apprentice this February, where she will face a slew of formidable opponents including Arsenio Hall, podcaster Adam Carolla, Penn Jillette, and Clay Aiken. May the best celebrity…miraculously go back in time to a moment when they could decide not to be on this show.

A Fairly Comprehensive Guide to Comedy Podcasts

UPDATE: Come check out the newer, much-expanded version of this guide: A Seriously Comprehensive Guide to Comedy Podcasts. It's this guide, plus tens more podcasts with in-depth reviews!

With the recent explosion in podcasts, it seems we are in the midst of a new comedic golden age. The distance between performers and fans has never been smaller, and more and more comics are taking advantage by increasing their output, like an army of Lil Waynes armed to the teeth with mixtapes. The market is now saturated with comedy podcasts containing trace elements of late night talk show, sketch fest, improv exercise, intimate stand-up session, and backroom history lesson [...]

Adam Carolla's Company Sued Over Podcast Patent Dispute

A patent licensing company called Personal Audio LLC has issued lawsuits to Adam Carolla's ACE Broadcasting and HowStuffWorks.com, two of the biggest podcasting entities in the game, in a patent infringement case, 9to5Mac reports. The patent in question, which was issued last year, is for a "system for disseminating media content representing episodes in a serialized sequence," and the result of the lawsuit will certainly have a big impact on the booming podcast industry. Personal Audio has had success with these tech patent lawsuits in the past, winning $8 million from Apple in a 2011 case and entering licensing agreements with Sirius, Motorola, Samsung, Archos, Coby, RIM, and Amazon  after [...]

Sarah Silverman, Michael Cera, Tim & Eric, and Reggie Watts Are Working on Stuff for a New YouTube Channel

The Hollywood Reporter announced yesterday that Daniel Kellison, creator of The Man Show and ex-producer of Jimmy Kimmel Live, is developing two new YouTube channels, Jash and Video Podcast Network, which are both expected to launch in January. Jash is a comedy network that will feature content from Sarah Silverman, Michael Cera, Tim & Eric, and Reggie Watts (all of whom have had a great deal of success with web vids in the past), while Video Podcast Network will present – you guessed it – video versions of popular podcasts. Adam Carolla is so far the first and only one to sign onto Video Podcast Network, but [...]

Watch Adam Carolla's Failed Animated Pilot

The above was Adam Carolla's pilot for Birchum, his failed Fox series based on a Crank Yankers character. It's amazing this show didn't get picked up, doesn't everyone love watching a grumping old guy complain about kids these days with their peanut allergies and gift bags and not getting hit by strangers. It ends with Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird" playing. Get it? The last lyrics you hear is "I can't change." Get it? Kids these days don't appreciate heavy-handed metaphors anymore. [Via]

Podcasts Popular, Probably Potentially Profitable

The advantages of comedy podcasts for creators are numerous: they're simple and cheap to make, it's easy to tell exactly how many people are listening, and interest from big advertisers means they can even be profitable. Plus, for 'casters like Adam Carolla and Marc Maron, they lead to higher profiles and more opportunities. It'll be interesting to see what happens with this new model: is the podcast truly its own art, or just another stepping stone to success in more established forms of entertainment?
