Not only will FX's Archer "unreboot" next season, but according to creator Adam Reed, the series will also drop spy organization name ISIS — short for International Secret Intelligence Service — from the show going forward. Speaking to The Daily Beast, Reed and executive producer Matt Thompson explained why they decided to "quietly" erase ISIS from the Archer universe rather than address it on the show:
"We were waiting for it to go away—at least I was. Back in Season 5, FX said, ‘This might be a thing,’ and I thought, ‘Maybe it won’t be? Maybe it’ll be the mole that I’m gonna ignore and nothing [...]
The best thing about Archer being an animated show is that anything is possible. We've seen the ISIS gang travel across the world, fight pirates in space, and adventure beneath the sea. It makes sense, then, that for the new season Adam Reed would create a premise in which he could continue being outrageous and stretch the limits of his illustrated imaginations.
After four seasons of spy hijinks, the writers "got bored" and created drastic change for their characters. The once respected super-spies have been operating without the consent of the government (and betrayed the government, but hey, as Sterling Archer says, "Potato, patreason") and are turning to drug dealing [...]
Here's the brand new trailer for Chozen, FX's newest comedy. It's an animated series from Eastbound & Down creators Danny McBride and Jody Hill and Archer creator Adam Reed. The show, following a gay rapper who just got out of prison, was created by former Eastbound writers' assistant Grant Dekernion and it features the voice cast of Bobby Moynihan (in the lead role of Chozen), Michael Peña, Method Man, Hannibal Buress, Kathryn Hahn, and Nick Swardson.
