Submissions for the 2013 Andy Kaufman Award Are Now Open

The Andy Kaufman Award, an annual prize given out to young comedians who perform in the spirit of the legendary late comedian, is taking submissions for the 2013 award now. Founded in 2004 by Kaufman's family, the Andy Kaufman Award has, in the past, gone to comedians like Kristen Schaal, Reggie Watts, and Brent Weinbach, when they were earlier on in their careers. Head on over to the official website to find out how to submit your video. The ceremony is typically held in November, when finalists perform on stage and one is selected to receive the award. Marcus Monroe "The Rock Star of Jugglers" Wins the 2012 Andy Kaufman Award

The 8th Annual Andy Kaufman Award Show was held last night at Gotham Comedy Club in New York City, and the winner of the award this year was Marcus Monroe, a juggler/comedian who bills himself as "the rock star of jugglers." Past recipients of the Kaufman Award include Kristen Schaal, Reggie Watts, and Brent Weinbach, who have all seen their careers skyrocket subsequently, so it's possible the same thing will happen for Monroe. Here's the highlight reel of his performance last night. Check him out impersonating Reggie Watts (before Reggie Watts interrupts him) at Bonnaroo this summer after the jump.

Foolproof Strategies For Winning Next Year's Andy Kaufman Award

Congratulations to Nick Vatterott, who took home the coveted Andy Kaufman Award for his standup routine as a monster. It's funny! Here are some suggestions for those considering entering this contest next year:

– Repeat the sentence "You guys know what I think about recursion?" for half an hour. Then take a bow and, as if you're starting a new joke, repeat the sentence "You know what I think about repetition?" for forty-five minutes.

– Do your regular set, silently.
