One of the most eagerly-awaited pilots this season for comedy fans has been an untitled Fox cop show that stars Andy Samberg and is co-created by Parks and Rec's Mike Schur. Now, it looks like the untitled series has a title: Brooklyn 99. USA Today was first to print the show's title last month. Co-created by Schur and Parks writer Dan Goor, Brooklyn 99 stars Samberg as the lead detective Jake Peralta, who watches over a diverse group of cops at a precinct at the edge of New York City. Terry Crews, Andre Braugher, Chelsea Peretti, Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, and Joe Lo Truglio make up the rest [...]

Andy Samberg went on Conan last night to promote his stint hosting the Independent Spirit Awards (which air this Saturday on IFC), and he and Conan got to talk a little bit about their experiences writing for SNL. Samberg's favorite sketch he wrote that never made it to air was about a guy who desperately wants people to come to the bathroom with him. Flimsier SNL sketches were developed into movies in the early '90s, so maybe it would have actually worked.

Andy Samberg and Parks and Rec co-creator Mike Schur are making a pilot for an untitled Fox comedy about a police precinct on the edge of New York City, and the show just added two new cast members this week. According to The Hollywood Reporter, actresses Stephanie Beatriz (pictured, left) and Melissa Fumero (right) have each signed on to be regulars on the potential series, joining a cast that also includes Samberg and Terry Crews. Beatriz, best known for a recent guest spot as Sofia Vergara's sister on Modern Family, will play Meghan, a tough and frightening police officer who scares both criminals and the other cops. Fumero, [...]

It seems SNL has struck gold with booking music stars as hosts. Despite my long-standing pet peeve of musical guests making cameos in sketches — No one wants to watch Cee Lo read cue cards! — I have been proven wrong, again and again, as pop stars and rock legends have strapped on their host shoes and presided over far better episodes than most athletes, comedians, or A-listers have. While I was never sold on the argument that musicians' live-concert backgrounds causally make them natural live sketch performers, musicians are often less likely to let their nerves get the best of them, and they typically bring a fun-loving charisma and game-faced hustle [...]
The Fox network just ordered a pilot for a cop comedy starring Andy Samberg and created by Parks and Recreation co-creator Mike Schur and Parks writer/producer Dan Goor. Samberg signed on to the show last year, but now it's one step closer to making it to your TV screens this fall. Samberg is playing a lead detective in the untitled series, overseeing a diverse group of detectives at the edge of New York City. This is the first pilot order Fox has give for the 2013-14 TV season, and it's a strong contender to get picked up to series. Stay tuned as the supporting roles in [...]
