Subtlety is probably not what you’d expect from a comedian who trades in fat suits and black face, but it’s the medium in which Australian funnyman Chris Lilley works. Instead of painting his wacky characters with broad strokes, in his past three shows —  We Can Be Heroes in 2005, Summer Heights High in 2008, and Angry Boys which premiered January 1st — and for the past six years, Chris Lilley has breathed specificity into characters who, without their invented idiosyncrasies, would be little more than tired stereotypes.

Chris Lilley, creator and star of the amazing Summer Heights High, is returning to HBO this summer with a new series: Angry Boys. Like Summer Heights High, Lilley plays multiple characters in it, including "a pair of co-dependent brothers, a former surfing great, an untalented rapper, a prison guard grandma and an overprotective Asian mother." Oh god, this show cannot come soon enough.

Hello again! New year, new shows. Angry Boys, the new comedy from Summer Heights High's Chris Lilley, premiered last night on HBO, and stop worrying, Chris Lilley WAS in blackface wearing one ski boot. HBO has just announced that both Chris Lilley's Angry Boys and the animated The Life and Times of Tim will be airing on Mondays this winter starting on December 5th.
