Watch John Oliver and Armando Iannucci Have a Chat

UK comedy god Armando Iannucci, creator of Veep, The Thick of It, and tons more, was John Oliver's guest on The Daily Show last night. Here's the extended, unedited conversation (Part 1 above and Part 2 below) between the two UK comedy figures, which, naturally, is all about how crazy American politics are. Oliver is really succeeding at making this show way more British.

'Veep' Is Coming Back April 14th for a Second Season

HBO announced today that its Vice Presidential comedy Veep, starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus and created by Armando Iannucci, is returning for a second season on Sunday, April 14th, at 10:30pm. The whole ensemble cast, made up of Anna Chlumsky, Tony Hale, Matt Walsh, Reid Scott, Timothy Simons, and Sufe Bradshaw, is coming back, with Gary Cole and Kevin Dunn joining up for major recurring roles. The new season will be 10 episodes compared to last season's eight, continuing HBO's quest to transition creator Armando Iannucci away from tiny six-episode British seasons, inch by inch.

Hulu To Air New Episodes of 'The Thick of It'

Hulu and the BBC announced today that they're going to work together to produce a much-anticipated fourth season of Armando Iannuci's The Thick of It. The fantastic British political comedy has been off the air since 2009, back when Gordon Brown was still Prime Minster (British politics joke – nailed it). If you aren't familiar, the previous seasons and specials will be up on Hulu on July 29. This move effectively makes Hulu the official destination of hearing cursing in British accents.

Talking to Timothy Simons of the New HBO Series Veep

As a newcomer to the world of TV, actor Timothy Simons is joining a very impressive group of writers and performers for his first big role in the HBO political comedy series Veep. Created by Oscar-nominated auteur Armando Iannucci (In the Loop, The Thick of It) and boasting a cast that includes Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Matt Walsh, Anna Chlumsky, and Tony Hale, Veep has a more impressive pedigree than any TV comedy in recent memory. I’ve seen the first three episodes of Veep, and Timothy Simons holds his own against these heavy-hitters. It’s a funny show that lives up to the high expectations set by Armando Iannucci’s previous work, and [...]

HBO Renews 'Veep' for a Third Season

HBO announced today that they've renewed the critically-acclaimed, Emmy-winning comedy Veep for a third season. Created by UK comedy mastermind Armando Iannucci and starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the U.S. Vice President, the series began airing its second season last month and earned its highest ratings for the season yet this past weekend. Tony Hale, Anna Chlumsky, Matt Walsh, Reed Scott, Timothy Simons, Sufe Bradshaw, and Kevin Dunn. Like the second season, the third season order is for 10 episodes. The new season is expected to debut sometime next year, so once Veep Season 2 wraps, you'll just have to start paying attention to Joe Biden for a few months [...]

The Alan Partridge Movie Finally Starts Filming

Filming is finally underway for the long-awaited movie based on Steve Coogan's beloved character Alan Partridge. Chortle reports that production on the UK film, which has a working title of Alan Partridge: The Movie, has just begun and that some roads in England are being closed to shoot a big car chase scene. Writer Armando Iannucci told the press last year that the movie will follow Partridge's battle with a media conglomerate after they take over the digital radio station he works at and rebrand it "Shape." Set to reprise their roles are Felicity Montagu as Partridge's mousey personal assistant Lynn Benfield, Simon Greenall as heavily-accented handyman Michael, [...]

The Alan Partridge Movie Is Coming Next August, at Least in the UK

Info about the upcoming Alan Partridge movie is starting to emerge, and although it's a long way off, it's exciting that it's happening at all. It's set to start shooting in January with a release date of August 7, 2013. In the UK. It's not clear when it'll premiere in the States, but hopefully not long after that. It's been written by Peter Baynham, Steve Coogan, Armando Iannucci, Neil and Rob Gibbons and will be directed Declan Lowney. Here's how Coogan described the plot: Alan is in Norwich. It's not “Alan goes to Hollywood”; it's not “Alan invaded by aliens” or anything like that. He's on North [...]

Armando Iannucci and Steve Coogan are two of the best and brightest minds in the world of British comedy, first working together on Knowing Me, Knowing You and then both going on to have amazing careers. Now they're getting back together, as Iannucci has been hired as the Creative Director of Coogan's production company, Baby Cow. Baby Cow released such excellent fare as The Mighty Boosh and The Trip, so it'll be interesting to see what comes of this new position.

Finally! An Alan Partridge Film to Shoot Later This Year

After decades, and a variety of mediums, Steve Coogan's Alan Partridge is finally going to be brought to the big screen. Armando Iannucci, who has been Coogan's writing partner on most things Partridge and most recently created HBO's Veep, told Empire magazine, "It's just about all come together now, so that'll be shot later in the year." Exclamation points!!!! There has been talk of a Partridge film basically since the character was created in the early 90s; however, nothing came to pass, even after multiple TV series, a web series, a book, a tour, and general legend. Will this be Coogan's breakout role in the States, which will [...]
