Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: 'Bachelorette' on DVD

In case you missed it during its short theatrical release and its availability online since then, last year's movie Bachelorette is out today on DVD and Blu-ray! The black comedy, written by Leslye Headland and based on her play of the same name, split critics and audiences fairly evenly, but the movie was produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay and boasts an all-star cast, which includes Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher, Lizzy Caplan, Adam Scott, Rebel Wilson, Horatio Sans, and James Marsden, so if nothing else all those names of people you like in other things warrant checking it out.

'Bachelorette' Is a Movie and Not a Film-Version of the Reality Show

This seems fun. It will undoubtedly be compared to Bridesmaids because that's how things work but it looks a lot more like Very Bad Things mixed with The Hangover. The cast is solid: Rebel Wilson playing against type as the proper bride, Lizzy Caplan as the sarcastic one (the brunette), Isla Fisher as the wild party girl (the redhead), and Kirsten Dunst as the perfect one (the blonde). Also, there appears to be a Lizzy Caplan-Adam Scott rekindling, which hopefully takes up 60% of the movie. Maybe the twist will be that Scott and Caplan's characters have to cater the wedding and this is actually the long-rumored Party Down movie.

Review Roundup: 'Bachelorette' Is Definitely Darker than 'Bridesmaids', But Is it Better?

Regardless of the fact that Bachelorette was an off-Broadway play and a hot script well before Bridesmaids came out, the comparison is unfortunately unavoidable. Every single review seemed to be primarily hoping to contrast the two. Bachelorette is a good or bad movie insomuch that it's funnier or darker or more genuine or less genuine or grosser than Bridesmaids. Overall the reviews are split on the subject, resulting in a 49 on Metacritic and 50 on Rotten Tomatoes.

Women Be Marrying! Lizzy Caplan And Casey Wilson To Star In Ferrell-Produced Bachelorette

Will our lust for wedding-related humor ever be satiated? Or will an eternity of nuptial humor pour forever into the bouquet-shaped hollow in our souls? Will Ferrell and Adam McKay are banking on the latter, as their Gary Sanchez Productions will be funding the new indie comedy Bachelorette, which stars Casey Wilson as a demanding bride, and Lizzy Caplan and Kirsten Dunst as her bridesmaids. Caplan's character is described as having "a Playboy Bunny body with a Larry David brain," which would be amazing if that actually meant "self-deprecating neurotic comedy genius" rather than just "sarcastic" as I'm assuming it does. Adam Scott will also be appearing [...]

Rebel Wilson Has a Very Farley-esque Questioning Style

Remember when Rebel Wilson was on Jimmy Kimmel Live promoting Bachelorette and she was talking about the movie and, like, how she worked with Kirsten Dunst and how that was so exciting because Bring It On is her favorite movie that she just asked Kirsten if she remembered its most famous parts and Kirsten did? That was awesome! Also awesome, as she explains below, was her childhood love of Kris Kross and that documentary Best in Show.
