NBC Cancels Freshman Comedies 'A to Z' and 'Bad Judge'

Two of NBC's new comedies will not be continuing into second seasons. Deadline reports that both the romantic comedy A to Z and Gary Sanchez-produced Bad Judge have been canceled by the network, though they will finish their 13-episode seasons in the 9:00 and 9:30pm time slots. NBC reportedly plans to replace the time slot with hourlong drama The Blacklist after the Super Bowl, so hopefully you weren't anticipating a revival of NBC's once-great Thursday night comedy block just yet.

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay Are Making an NBC Show with Anne Heche

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's company Gary Sanchez is working with Anne Heche to develop a new NBC pilot called Bad Judge, Deadline reports. The show is based on an idea by Heche (who's also producing) and written by Chad Kultgen (one of the writers on the upcoming Steve Carell vehicle The Incredible Burt Wonderstone). It follows a hard-living criminal judge whose freewheelin' ways are constantly putting her professional life in danger. This is Heche's second collaboration with Ferrell/McKay after playing an uncredited role as an evil CEO in their movie The Other Guys. Kate Walsh to Star in NBC Pilot 'Bad Judge' from Producers Will Ferrell and Adam McKay

NBC has given an early pilot order to Bad Judge, and Private Practice's Kate Walsh has been cast in the lead role, THR reports. The project, originally announced in November, is produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay via their company Gary Sanchez and it follows a hard living judge whose rowdy personal life is at odds with her career as a judge in the San Bernardino Criminal Court system. Walsh will executive produce alongside Ferrell, McKay, and Anne Heche, who originally came up with the idea.
