Talking to Hilary Winston About Writing for 'Community' and 'Happy Endings' and Adapting 'Bad Teacher' to TV

Comedy writer and producer Hilary Winston has been building quite the impressive resume these last few years, jumping from critically-acclaimed show to critically-acclaimed show. After spending four years on staff for My Name Is Earl's entire original run, she did two seasons at Community and then two seasons at Happy Endings. Now, after years of writing on other people's shows, Winston has one of her own with Bad Teacher, a half-hour sitcom based on the film of the same name that premiered on CBS last week. Winston adapted the Bad Teacher to TV, serving as the show's creator and showrunner.

Starring Ari Graynor, Sara Gilbert, Ryan Hansen, Sara Rodler, [...]

'Party Down's Ryan Hansen and James Van Der Beek Cast in CBS Pilots

Party Down star Ryan Hansen has found a new show. He's been cast in a supporting role in CBS's sitcom pilot based on the 2011 movie Bad Teacher, Deadline reports. Hansen, who's been playing a recurring role on 2 Broke Girls lately, will portray the gym teacher character that Jason Segel originated in the movie. Ari Graynor and David Alan Grier also star as the titular morally-bankrupt teacher and the school's clueless principal, respectively. Still no word on when that Party Down movie's supposed to happen.

Coming off of ABC's Don't Trust the B, James Van Der Beek has landed a role in a CBS sitcom [...]

Feel Better About Your Own Job Performance With New Horrible Bosses Trailer, Bad Teacher Clips

If you're anything like me, you are constantly afraid of losing your job and having to move back into your parents' house. Outside Cleveland. That's why these new Bad Teacher and Horrible Bosses clips are so reassuring. These people are literally horrible monsters and they're still somehow gainfully employed. Horrible Bosses also has a new trailer with some new footage, predominantly Jennifer Aniston expounding upon the ways in which she is a huge predatory creep. I don't know about you, but that makes me feel a little better overall.

'Bad Teacher 2' Is Going to Be a Thing

A sequel to the 2011 Cameron Diaz comedy Bad Teacher is on the way. The studio announced today that they're developing a sequel with Jake Kasdan returning to direct and Cameron Diaz expected to return also. There's also a Bad Teacher TV show in production now, starring Ari Graynor (For a Good Time, Call) and expected to premiere midseason on CBS. It seems strange that everyone's so gung ho about turning Bad Teacher into a giant franchise considering that the original was only a modest hit and received mixed reviews from critics but for those of you who loved the first movie, however, there are plenty more chapters in the [...]

CBS Orders 'Bad Teacher' to Pilot

CBS has commissioned a sitcom pilot based on the 2011 movie Bad Teacher, Entertainment Weekly reports. Like to film, the show will focus on a misbehavin' junior high teacher who is looking for her next husband. The Office writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who penned the script to Bad Teacher, will be writing the show. It's a busy pilot season for Eisenberg and Stupnitsky, who are also producing Trophy Wife, starring Malin Akerman as a cleaned-up party girl who falls in love with a guy (Bradley Whitford) with kids and two ex-wives, and adapting the UK series Pulling, both at ABC. There's no word yet on [...]

Cameron Diaz Ruins Young Lives in the Red Band Trailer for Bad Teacher

Here's the first (red band) trailer for Bad Teacher, the new movie written by Gene Stupinsky and Lee Eisenberg (The Office, Year One, Ghostbusters 3) that stars Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake, Jason Segel and Phyllis Smith (Phyllis from The Office). The plot looks to center around Diaz as a foul-mouthed and kid-hating teacher who ends up changing her ways in order to win a teaching competition and save up enough money for a boob job in order to impress substitute dreamboat Timberlake. You know, normal high school stuff. Premise aside, this looks pretty densely packed with jokes and has a great cast. We'll see! In any case, we've [...]

CBS Orders 'Bad Teacher' to Series Midseason

Earlier this year, CBS greenlit the pilot Bad Teacher, based on the 2011 Cameron Diaz movie of the same name, and now the network has ordered up 13 episodes of the show for midseason. Coming a couple weeks after the networks ordered and announced all their new 2013-14 season comedies, the Bad Teacher pickup is a bit of a surprise because networks rarely order shows this late. The single-camera comedy will find Ari Graynor (For a Good Time, Call…) taking over Cameron Diaz's irresponsible schoolteacher role with Party Down's Ryan Hansen, David Alan Grier, Sara Gilbert, and Kristin Davis co-starring. Bad Teacher's showrunner will be Community writing staff alum [...]

Bad Teacher Review Round-Up: Significantly More Laughs Than Stand And Deliver

The Bad Teacher reviews are in, and they are mixed like the shots and weed Diaz's character sucks down as her students watch Dead Poets Society. In Roger Ebert's Bad Teacher review, as in many others, the film seems to invite comparisons between the awful educator and the terrible Saint Nick in Bad Santa. Bad Santa, it aint'. Writes Ebert, "Its bad person is neither bad enough or likable enough. The transgressions of Elizabeth Halsey (Cameron Diaz) are more or less what you'd expect, but what's surprising is that she's so nasty and unpleasant." The Washington Post's Ann Hornaday agrees, drawing the inevitable comparison to The Lady [...]
