Matt Damon and Ben Affleck Are Producing a Fox Comedy from '30 Rock' Alum Colleen McGuinness

Another former 30 Rock writer just landed a new comedy on a major network. Following last week's report that former 30 Rock writers/co-executive producers Josh Siegal and Dylan are developing a witch-themed comedy for NBC, today The Wrap reports that Fox has ordered a script for a half-hour comedy from Colleen McGuinness, who wrote for 30 Rock's sixth and seventh seasons. The untitled show will focus on "a 25-year-old woman who works at a frozen yogurt shop and whose life is going nowhere – until she discovers she is telekinetic." The series has some superstar backing from Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, who will serve as co-executive [...]

'SNL' Review: Ben Affleck and the End of an Era

What a weepy week it was for comedy nerds. NBC packed a double-whammy of goodbyes, with The Office's poignant series finale last Thursday, followed by Saturday's season finale of Saturday Night Live and final episode to feature Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, and (perhaps) Jason Sudeikis as regular cast members, which was announced only days before. It is indeed the end of an era, not just for the network, but for TV comedy as a whole, and we will talk plenty more about this changing landscape over the coming days, weeks, and months.

Unlike last year's farewell to Kristen Wiig, which had a best-of-Wiig vibe that unfortunately repeated itself a week [...]

Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: 'Argo'

Although it would be quite a stretch to call Ben Affleck's movie about the 1979 Iran hostage a comedy, Argo is exceptional enough and has just the right amount of comedy in it for us to recommend it. Alan Arkin, John Goodman, and Bryan Cranston round out the cast of CIA and Hollywood guys pretending to make a sci-fi movie in order to get a group of Americans out of Iran. The movie won best motion picture drama at the Golden Globes and Ben Affleck took home best director, so get the DVD (or the Blu-Ray combo pack) if you haven't seen it yet and [...]

CBS Grabs Pilot Starring Tom Papa, Produced By Matt Damon and Ben Affleck

CBS has landed a sought after comedy pilot from executive producers Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, Deadline reports. The multi-camera sitcom More Time With Family will star standup and radio host Tom Papa as a guy "who changes his career and gives up a life on the road to spend more time at home with his family — but when he gets there, he realizes no one asked him to do that."

The show apparently originated when Papa and Damon worked together on movies The Informant and Behind The Candelabra, and is said to be based both on Papa's standup and Damon's real life experiences. More Time will be written by former King of [...]

Watch Bill Hader's Last-Ever 'SNL' Promos with Host Ben Affleck

Here's departing SNL cast member Bill Hader doing a bunch of promos for this weekend's SNL season finale alongside host Ben Affleck. Affleck's Bill Hader impression is solid gold.

Ben Schwartz To Run Alongside Timberlake and Affleck; Talk Alongside Oswalt and Schaal

Ben Schwartz has been cast in the upcoming drama Runner, Runner. Set in the world of online gambling, Justin Timberlake plays a totally realistic looking online poker player who becomes the protégé and then enemy of an off-shore gaming CEO (Ben Affleck). Schwartz plays Timberlake's friend, which would make Tom Haverford obscenely jealous. He was also named as one of the leads in a new animated pilot called Working Class Hero, which co-stars Patton Oswalt. Things are going so well for Schwartz, I doubt he'll have to get run over by a Lexus anytime soon.

The Best of 'SNL' Season 38

It snuck up on us, didn't it? The end of SNL Season 38 brought along with it key staff changes, among them the upcoming departure of head writer Seth Meyers and the immediate departures of cast members Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, and (unofficially) Jason Sudeikis. Few people have shaped SNL over the past 8 years more than these men — Meyers with his leadership in the writers room and charm as Weekend Update host, and Hader, Armisen and Sudeikis as the cast's workhorses and loadbearing performers. Indeed, many pegged Season 38 as a "transitional year" in the wake of Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg leaving the show a year ago, [...]

'SNL's Last Three Hosts This Season: Galifianakis, Wiig, Affleck

NBC announced an impressive roster of guests for this season's final episodes of SNL today. Kristen Wiig and Ben Affleck will be joining previously-announced Zach Galifianakis as hosts of the last string of episodes. Here's the lineups for those shows:

May 4th – Zach Galifianakis with musical guest Of Monsters and Men May 11th – Kristen Wiig with Vampire Weekend May 18th – Ben Affleck with Kanye West

This will be former cast member Kristen Wiig's first time hosting the show. She departed SNL last May after seven seasons to focus on her movie career. She is the first former cast member to host for the first time since [...]

Ben Affleck Lends His Mug to a Political Comedy From the Writer of Crazy, Stupid, Love

…and it'll be called Crazy, Stupid, Politics. Wait, that's already a Bill Maher show. But politics are definitely getting a comedy boost in this election year, with the Ferrell-Galifianakis movie Southern Rivals and now the Ben Affleck-starring Nathan Decker, written by Dan Fogelman and centering on "a politician who is caught in an affair and returns to his hometown to confront his past." Bet you five bucks I can predict the name of Affleck's character before even seeing the trailer. It's Nathan Decker. Because that's what the movie is called. I bet you.
