Melissa McCarthy's New Movie 'Tammy' Is Getting Mediocre Reviews at Best

Melissa McCarthy's latest film Tammy hits theaters today, and so far critics are feeling pretty meh about the film the comedian wrote, produced, and starred in with her husband Ben Falcone onboard as co-writer and director. McCarthy has been on a steady rise to mainstream fame since her breakout role in 2011's Bridesmaids, so the critical reception to Tammy — which ranges from drab to mildly entertained — is a bit of a letdown considering all the hype around the idea of McCarthy writing and starring in her own movie. Most critics seem to agree on three things: McCarthy gives a solid but sometimes confusing performance, Susan Sarandon [...]

Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone Start a Production Company and Set Up Three New Movies

Bridesmaids and Mike and Molly's Melissa McCarthy has her first movie in which she has a starring role, Identity Theft, coming out tomorrow, and she's already set up her own production company with her husband, writer/actor Ben Falcone. According to The Hollywood Reporter, McCarthy and Falcone's company is called On the Day and has three movie projects in the works. They are:

  • Michelle Darnell – Based on an original character created by McCarthy and on a story written by McCarthy and Falcone, the plot for this movie is under wraps. McCarthy and Falcone will write the script with fellow Groundlings alum Steve Mallory.
  • Cousin Irv from [...]

Melissa McCarthy Just Sold Her Second Pilot to CBS in Four Months

Melissa McCarthy is on some kind of crazy world domination trip, man. She's already sold one pilot to CBS a few months back, and now she's sold another one about a 37-year-old man who moves back in with his parents. To be fair, McCarthy's only an executive producer of this latest script, which was written by her husband/Bridesmaids costar Ben Falcone and fellow Groundlings alum Larry Dorf. But still. This woman is taking over the world! And the world is like, "Yeah! Take us over! We love you!" And she's like "Okay!" And the world is like, "Yay!"

Melissa McCarthy Sells Hockey Comedy Pitch

Given the timing, how likely is it that Paramount execs were literally dangling a pen over Melissa McCarthy's hockey movie pitch until the Bridesmaids weekend box office came in? 100%? 800%? In the new Paramount Pictures comedy, the best part of Bridesmaids is teaming up with Bridesmaids co-writer and nervous flyer Annie Mumolo on an untitled Stanley Cup caper movie. Or as Deadline put it, "when your husband is ill and his doctors are out of ideas, piling in the minivan with your pals to steal the Stanley Cup is one way to go." The film was conceived by McCarthy's husband Ben Falcone, who is, let's say, the [...]

Melissa McCarthy Shares Details on Her Upcoming Movies 'Michelle Darnell' and 'Just Do It'

Variety has a cover story on Melissa McCarthy and her husband/frequent collaborator Ben Falcone, that has some new info on some of the pair's upcoming projects.

McCarthy will be starring in Michelle Darnell, a comedy that was announced last year but has kept its plot under wraps until now. The movie, based on a character she created at LA's Groundlings Theater, was co-written by McCarthy, Falcone, and Groundlings' Steve Mallory and will be directed by Falcone, who helmed McCarthy's upcoming movie Tammy.

Michelle Darnell follows "a self-help inspiration speaker (a la Suze Orman or Oprah) who goes to jail for insider trading, and struggles to reinvent herself as America’s new [...]

Ben Falcone Gets All Up In Melissa McCarthy and His 'Bridesmaids' Sex Scene

Ben Falcone was on Conan last night, talking about how he found himself having sandwich sex with his wife, Melissa McCarthy, on the set of Bridesmaids. He described it as a covert operation, which ended with him having turkey meat on his nipples. Yep, that's totally how all covert operations end because turkey meat makes your nipples sleepy, because of the tryptophan, and there's just no better way to come down from a week of shooting people and wearing really realistic masks that look like other people's faces and having your letters blow up after reading them.

Melissa McCarthy Sells New Midlife Crisis Pilot To CBS

I'd like to imagine she still had her tiara on when she took the conference call. Deadline reports Melissa McCarthy sold a sitcom to CBS. Co-written by husband Ben Falcone, the multi-camera show follows a woman who "has a spectacular midlife crisis." McCarthy and Falcone will co-executive produce the show, as McCarthy is currently busy killing it on Mike & Molly apparently, and cannot star in all shows and movies as would be our most fervent desire.

Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone in Talks to Make Their Directorial Debut with 'Tammy'

Just days after starting up a production company with three movies in development, Melissa McCarthy and her husband/writing partner Ben Falcone are in talks to co-direct their first movie, which McCarthy will also star in, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie is called Tammy, and McCarthy and Falcone wrote and sold the script back in 2011. Longtime SNL director Beth McCarthy-Miller was going to direct it but dropped out last year. Tammy tells the story of a lady who, after getting laid off from her job at Hardee's and finding her husband cheating on her, sets off on a road trip with her vulgar, diabetic [...]

Trade Roundup: Patton Oswalt, Melissa McCarthy, Parks & Recreation

Patton Oswalt may star with Ben Stiller and Kristen Wiig in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty as "Todd, a friendly eHarmony counselor." This is the role he was born to play, ladies and gentlemen.

CBS has picked up Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone's 37-year-old-living-at-home sitcom, just a few weeks after ordering the script. They must've thrown a lotta good "grown man walking in on his parents having sex" jokes in there!

Parks & Recreation will be the host of a West Wing reunion later this season, when Bradley Whitford guest stars as the departing councilman whose seat Leslie wants. Tragically, he'll have no actual [...]

Melissa McCarthy: Even Better In Bridesmaids Then You'd Thought

As you probably could have guessed, the Bridesmaids DVD is going to straight-up murder you with outtakes of Melissa McCarthy's genius riffing. To prove it, GQ rounded up the film's cast to testify to the actress's master improvisation skills. "During the Brazilian-restaurant scene, Helen's talking about this big house she has and that people can stay with her if they want. Melissa goes on this whole run of how she needs to do that because there's a squirrel infestation at her house, and a squirrel had burrowed into her vagina and was living in her vagina. I could never get it into the movie, but it made me [...]
