There's Gonna Be a Johnny Carson Movie

A new biopic about famed Tonight Show host Johnny Carson is in the works, Deadline reports. The movie will be based on author Bill Zehme's upcoming book Carson the Magnificent, which was supposed to be released in 2006 but has since been delayed several times. Zehme was the only journalist Carson spoke to after his retirement. The book will be adapted into a screenplay by John McLaughlin (Hitchcock, Black Swan), but the details of the film's focus are murky as Carson always kept his private life private. Needless to say, Zehme probably got some info from Carson that we all don't know about, otherwise this is gonna be a [...]

Queen Guitarist Says Sacha Baron Cohen's Freddie Mercury Biopic Is Coming in 2014

Sacha Baron Cohen signed on to play Freddie Mercury in a biopic about the Queen frontman's life over two years ago, but it's taken a little while to get production going. Queen guitarist Brian May just released this statement on his official website last week, saying, "The pieces are all falling into place, though we are now on a slightly later schedule – filming is now scheduled to start in the Spring, with Sacha Baron Cohen playing Freddie. The film should be ready for release early in 2014."

The Richard Pryor Biopic’s 17 Years in Development Hell

Regarded by his peers as the greatest stand-up comedian of all-time, Richard Pryor also lived a fascinating life to match his larger-than-life reputation as a comic. Pryor’s tumultuous personal experiences are what fed his comedy, and it’s no wonder that Hollywood executives, filmmakers, Pryor’s family, and Pryor himself have tried many times to make a biopic about his life. There’s enough stuff in Richard Pryor’s life to fill two or three movies (he grew up in a brothel, rose to the top of his field by breaking boundaries and fighting numerous censorship battles, had some run-ins with the mob, lit himself on fire while freebasing cocaine, and was diagnosed [...]

Russell Crowe Is Making a Bill Hicks Biopic, Which Makes Sense

Early next year, fake gladiator Russell Crowe is set to make his directorial debut with a movie about comedy legend Bill Hicks. The film was written by Mark Staufer, a screenwriting newbie/high school friend of Crowe's. Crowe was originally rumored to play Hicks but that's thankfully no longer the case. Hicks does have a very interesting, tragic story and would've undoubtedly hated however this film will get marketed.

Mike Epps Is Playing Richard Pryor in a Biopic Not About Richard Pryor

Stand-up and actor Mike Epps, best known for roles in the Friday sequels and The Hangover, has just been cast as Richard Pryor in a new biopic about legendary jazz singer and civil rights pioneer Nina Simone, who will be played by Zoe Saldana. Epps was originally going to play Pryor in a biopic about his own life back in 2005, but was let go after widow Jennifer Pryor disagreed with the casting. Eddie Murphy and Marlon Wayans were the next to be attached to the Pryor movie, being produced by Adam Sandler and Chris Rock, but the project is currently on hiatus. Mike Epps says [...]
