Steve Carell Not Likely to Return for the 'Office' Finale

When The Office says goodbye this May, it looks like Michael Scott won't be joining in on the farewell. NBC Chairman Bob Greenblatt revealed to reporters this weekend that the long-lasting Peacock sitcom will close out its nine-season run with a one-hour finale in May but that there are no plans to involve Steve Carell because Carell is satisfied with his character's exit from the show two years ago in the seventh season episode "Goodbye, Michael." Greenblatt told the press, "I'm hopeful, but I don't think he will be back. He left in the way that he wanted that character to leave," before adding, "There's maybe a [...]

NBC Says Community "Has Not Been Cancelled"

NBC entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt better go to the bike store, cause he's doing some serious backpedaling. (High-five!) “When I announced our midseason changes last fall and took Community off the schedule, I failed to explicitly say that it would be back,” he explained at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. “I want to expel any notion that it is just disappearing off the schedule.”

While he doesn't actually give any concrete hints about when the show will return, this is still a good sign. And perhaps official confirmation that flash mobs really work?

NBC Chairman Calls Jimmy Fallon/Tonight Show Talk "Premature"

While speaking to journalists at the Television Critics Association's Press Tour this weekend, NBC Chairman Bob Greenblatt addressed rumors that the network is planning to replace Jay Leno with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show in 2014. "All of those conversations are a little bit premature," Greenblatt was quoted as saying. He explained, "We just extended Jay and it would be disingenuous to extend him and talk about a succession plan." The contract extension Greenblatt is referring to is NBC's move this past September to extend Leno's contract through May 2014 along with a 50% pay cut. Greenblatt's statements come hot on the heels of [...]

NBC Chairman: "I'm Hopeful for 'Parks & Rec' and 'Community' But Anything Can Happen"

NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt talked about the future of two of the network's most-beloved but Nielsen-challenged shows at the Television Critics Association's Press Tour this weekend, being quoted as saying, "I'm hopeful for Parks & Rec – and Community – but anything can happen between now and May." It's good that Greenblatt says he's hopeful for the show's futures but bad that he backpedals out of that statement immediately. We'll see what happens between now and May, when NBC will have to make the decision about picking up the two comedies for another season.

With NBC only ordering a 13-episode half-season of Community this year, pushing the [...]
