Here's a D&D Short from 2006 Starring Ellie Kemper and Bobby Moynihan

Here's a web pilot called Critical Hit!, a D&D-themed series written and directed by UCB performer Kirk Damato starring Ellie Kemper, Bobby Moynihan, Sue Galloway, and more that Damato began working on in 2006 but didn't finish until late 2013. In a Tumblr post, Damato was pretty honest about sitting on the project for multiple-year intervals: "It took a long time, but it's done. The weight is off my shoulders, I hope you enjoy it, and I hope in the future I don't let procrastination get the best of me." Better late than never.

'SNL' Review: Edward Norton Gets Into Character

Whenever the holiday season begins, a strange vibe settles in at SNL. The weeks blend together as sketches revolve around seasonal themes, with few exciting fresh ideas and a lineup of decent hosts with unmemorable episodes. Fall of last year was no different — Bruno Mars and Louis CK were highlights in what was otherwise a forgettable stretch including Daniel Craig, Christina Applegate, and Jeremy Renner. On the viewer side, this drop in enthusiasm is likely the result of the start-of-season excitement wearing off as we see the cast members fall into a familiar rotation. On the writers' side, perhaps it's a matter of fatigue, or limited options from [...]

'SNL' Review: Tina Fey Introduces The New Cast

For a show that evolves constantly, SNL does a remarkable job preserving its brand. Despite the changes in the cast, the writers, and the culture it parodies, SNL will always be that live, hip, New York-centered show that puts up a few sketches at the end of the week to try to make you laugh. There's the "Live from New York…" throw line, the theme music, Don Pardo listing off the cast, the host walking out on stage, followed by that predictable pattern of live sketches, videos, musical performances, and the news segment. Critics put down this structure in favor of looser, more inventive sketch show formats, but given SNL's [...]

Bobby Moynihan's Web Series 'The Sidecar' Returns

Last fall, Bobby Moynihan created and starred in The Sidecar, a new web series for Lorne Michaels's Above Average Network, about a bar where a bunch of superhero sidekicks hang out. Here's a special one-off episode of the show, starring Moynihan, Chris Gethard, Neil Casey, Aidy Bryant, and more, that was commissioned for YouTube's "Geek Week."

The Best of 'SNL' Season 38

It snuck up on us, didn't it? The end of SNL Season 38 brought along with it key staff changes, among them the upcoming departure of head writer Seth Meyers and the immediate departures of cast members Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, and (unofficially) Jason Sudeikis. Few people have shaped SNL over the past 8 years more than these men — Meyers with his leadership in the writers room and charm as Weekend Update host, and Hader, Armisen and Sudeikis as the cast's workhorses and loadbearing performers. Indeed, many pegged Season 38 as a "transitional year" in the wake of Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg leaving the show a year ago, [...]

Drake, Jay Pharoah, and Bobby Moynihan Mix Some Beats in This New 'SNL' Promo

This week's SNL promos with host and musical guest Drake feature dramatic Degrassi acting, the answer to the question "Do ducks have belly buttons?", and Jay and Bobby's hot mom beats (or lack thereof). Drake makes a pretty good straight man opposite these two SNLers, so hopefully he brings that Canadian charm to his episode on Saturday.

Bobby Moynihan and Edward Norton Bond In Their 'SNL' Promos

Edward Norton is hosting SNL this weekend, and  Bobby Moynihan joined him for his promos because he obviously has a crush on him. The also try on some Halloween costumes and Norton gets to show off his Japanese.

What to Look Forward to in 'SNL' Season 39

Season 39 of SNL kicks off this Saturday night with Tina Fey, Arcade Fire, and a mouthful of new names for Don Pardo to read off in the opening credits. After several seasons of little turnover, the cast is experiencing a major upheaval, with six — six! — new cast members to replace the departed Bill Hader, Jason Sudeikis, and Fred Armisen. This is the largest staff hire in 18 years, tying the 1995-1996 season's addition of Jim Breuer, Will Ferrell, Darrell Hammond, David Koechner, Cheri Oteri, and Nancy Walls. After the show's dismal 1994-1995 season, which saw near cancellation and the firing/resignation of 12 cast members, those six were [...]

The 11 Best 'Comedy Bang! Bang!' Characters and Impersonations

And so here we are, the day of the second season premiere of Comedy Bang! Bang!, the television show based on the funny podcast and former live showcase of the same name. Scott Aukerman and company have managed to take the successful, idiosyncratic style of humor from one medium to another, so much so that IFC is trusting them to put twenty new episodes on the air this season, twice as many as last year. But while some of the characters and impersonations have found their way to the small screen, the element of letting the listener's imagination run wild along with the routines, not to mention the much [...]

Watch Vince Vaughn and Bobby Moynihan Promo Tomorrow's 'SNL'

Vince Vaughn is hosting SNL tomorrow with musical guest Miguel, and here he is with cast member Bobby Moynihan trying to convince you to watch the show. An episode hosted by Vaughn's doppelganger Vinnie (Jay Pharoah) who only says Vince Vaughn movie titles actually sounds pretty awesome.

Bobby Moynihan Takes Some Stuff Out on Josh Hutcherson in This Week's 'SNL' Promos

Josh Hutcherson, who is apparently in The Hunger Games movies, is hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend, and his promos with Bobby Moynihan are some of the best that the show's done in a while.  I have no idea who this kid is, but he can take a punch and do a silly dance, so things are looking promising for Saturday.

'SNL' Review: Badass Bruce Willis

For people who like to talk about comedy, there are few greater debates than the one over the claim that "funny is funny." Can a performer or joke be objectively funny independent of context or medium? There are those who argue yes, that some comedians are so talented that their popularity is universal — Robin Williams, say, or Bill Murray — and that every culture since the dawn of man has had some version of a fart joke. Then there are those who argue no, that there are "different kinds of funny." Comedian Bill Burr made waves for his rant about "alternative comedy," which he criticized as being [...]

Watch Bobby Moynihan's Podcast Character Fourvel on the 'Comedy Bang Bang' TV Show

Here's a clip from this Friday's Comedy Bang Bang on IFC, which marks the TV debut of a popular character Bobby Moynihan played on the Comedy Bang Bang podcast: precocious, stabby orphan Fourvel. Appearing here with guest Bill Hader and host Scott Aukerman, Fourvel looks pretty much how he sounds on the podcast and the visual effects that shrink Moynihan to child size don't look half bad.

Breaking Down Each Cast Member's Contribution to 'SNL' Season 38

As mentioned in yesterday's post listing our favorite moments from this season of SNL, Season 38 has been dubbed a "transitional year" by many followers of the show. After a few years of relative stability among the core cast members, stars Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg left a year ago, followed by Abby Elliott later in the summer. With the start of the new season, three performers from Chicago's improv and sketch community joined the cast: Aidy Bryant, Tim Robinson, and Cecily Strong. In the wake of Wiig's dominating presence on the show, two freshman females in particular have emerged as go-to's: Kate McKinnon, who joined the cast [...]
