Broken Lizard's 'Quality Time' Lands a Pilot Order at TBS

Back in August it was announced that comedy group Broken Lizard was developing a show for TBS called Quality Time, and today THR reports that the network has now given the show a pilot order. Described as an "untraditional fatherhood comedy," Quality Time will star Broken Lizard's Paul Soter, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, and Erik Stolhanske and follow "four college friends who kept their sophomoric ways in suspended animation throughout their 20s and are now succumbing to reproduction." The four will also co-write and executive produce the pilot.

Talking to Broken Lizard's Jay Chandrasekhar about 'Freeloaders' and the Chevy Chase N-Word Thing

Jay Chandrasekhar made a name for himself acting in and directing movies like Super Troopers and Beerfest with his comedy team Broken Lizard, whose most recent produced project Freeloaders came out last week. In addition to his movie work and standup, though, Chandrasekhar has guest directed episodes for a handful of critically acclaimed fan-favorite TV series including Arrested Development, Undeclared, Happy Endings, and Community, where he's directed some of the series' best episodes ("Mixology Certification") and one of the most talked-about moments (Chevy Case emitting the N-word on set).

In light of Freeloaders' DVD and online release, I talked to Jay Chandrasekhar about ensemble comedies, the difference between directing [...]

Oh, There's Gonna Be Another Super Troopers

Today in Unwanted Sequels, the News of Which Will Delight a Few and Frustrate Many, there's going to be a Super Troopers 2. Actor and director Jay Chandrasekhar said that the Broken Lizard troupe has written the script and now has to "figure out a little sort of legal thing with Fox." What say you – was the classic original hilarious enough to warrant a sequel? Or is this another sign of our utter lack of creativity in the waning days of a dying civilization?

The Broken Lizard Guys Are Developing a Comedy for TBS

Broken Lizard, the comedy group behind cult classics Super Troopers and Beerfest have signed up to create a new comedy for TBS. Called Quality Time, the show "follows the now-adult (well, at least older) versions of the group as they struggle through various challenges of adult misery and child rearing and attempt to hang on to the idiotic freedom of their irresponsible pre-parental lives."

Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske will all write and presumably act on the show, although there's no word on if Broken Lizard mainstay and Super Troopers director Jay Chandrasekhar will also be involved.

'Super Troopers 2' to Possibly Shoot This Year

The guys from the comedy group Broken Lizard have been talking about making a sequel to their 2001 movie Super Troopers for years now, but it looks like it's finally happening. Director Jay Chandrasekhar told the press last year that they're hoping to make the movie "eventually," but now the movie is set to potentially film in 2013. Here's star/writer Kevin Heffernan talking to Guy Speed:

"There will be a Super Troopers sequel. We put it off for a while and then came back to it. We wrote the script and handed in to Fox and now we're just negotiating the time and the place and [...]

Olivia Munn Gets Broken Lizard Right In The Baby Maker

Olivia Munn joins Broken Lizard's The Baby Maker as the female lead opposite Lars And The Real Girl's Paul Schneider. The two star as a couple facing difficultly conceiving until as, Collider reporters, "the husband decides to rob a Pasedena sperm bank alongside his friends, in order to retrieve the specimen he donated as a young man," despite that fact that that stuff probably ain't right any more. Broken Lizard's Jay Chandrasekhar will direct as well as play an "master Estonian thief." Fellow Lizard members will  round out the cast, including Kevin Heffernan playing Schieder's "crazy" best friend, who I'm assuming doesn't realize you are really trying [...]

Jay Chandrasekhar Gives an Update on the 'Super Troopers' Sequel

"I'm a student of sequels and I know what they did wrong when you see them. Usually what they try to do is make them glitzier and broader and all that stuff. Our approach is not going to be that. If anything, the mustaches will be a little bigger, it'll be a little tougher maybe, but we're just going to make a second one. We're not going to dye our hair blond and spike it up or anything. This is going to be just another cop story."

In addition to acting in and directing the majority of the Broken Lizard films, including Super Troopers and Beerfest, Jay Chandrasekhar directed some of the best TV comedies around. Jay joins Craig Rowin to discuss "Justice is Blind," one of the many episodes of Arrested Development that he directed. Get your Arrested Development fix then listen as Jay explains why his group Broken Lizard has thrived since college. Jay also talks about his role in one of Jackass' best pranks ever, [...]
