NBC Is Close to Renewing 'Community,' Cancels 'Go On'

NBC is close to working out a deal to renew Community for a fifth season, Vulture reports. While nothing's official yet, Vulture says the renewal is "all but a done deal" and "very close," expecting that the network will pick up the show for an order of at least 13 Chevy Chase-less episodes. The decision comes right after the show's season finale, which went up slightly in the ratings last night. NBC Cancels Dane Cook Show Before It’s Too Late

In what’s been a season full of unorthodox decisions by NBC, the Peacock Network’s latest maverick move is canceling one of its new comedies before it even airs. In May, NBC ordered six episodes of a Dane Cook sitcom called Next Caller, in which the polarizing standup played a brash, misogynist radio DJ forced to co-host his show with, get this: a female feminist. Now, Deadline reports the network is canceling the show after only four episodes have been filmed (none of which will air), due to being unhappy with the series’ creative direction. 'The Cleveland Show' Has Been Canceled

After four seasons on the air, Fox has canceled The Cleveland Show, according to animation site Cartoon Brew. Since premiering to strong ratings in the fall of 2009, the Family Guy spin-off has seen its viewership gradually decrease over the last four years (just like TV in general has) and ratings prognosticators have been expecting the cancellation. By the time the current season wraps up, Cleveland Show will have aired 88 episodes, which is an impressive run for a series these days and enough to get it into syndication, with reruns set to debut on TBS and Adult Swim this fall. HBO Cancels 'Enlightened'; Somebody Start a Kickstarter Right Now

After two excellent but low-rated seasons, HBO has canceled its critically-acclaimed comedy-drama Enlightened. HBO released a statement yesterday saying, "It was a very difficult decision. We’ve decided not to continue Enlightened for a third season. We’re proud of the show, and we look forward to working with Mike White and Laura Dern in the future."

The series, created by White and starring Dern as a woman who returns from rehab and attempts to do some good in the world by taking down the evil company that employs her, debuted in 2011 and earned Dern a Golden Globe for her performance.
