Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: 'Celeste and Jesse Forever'

Last summer’s comedy-drama Celeste and Jesse Forever, written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack and starring Jones and Andy Samberg as the titular separated couple, is out on DVD and Blu-Ray today. The movie also features Elijah Wood, Emma Roberts, and The Mindy Project’s Chris Messina. If pilot season works in Samberg’s favor then we’ll be able to see both him and Jones in Mike Schur shows. Until that happens, Celeste and Jesse can tide you over.

Rashida Jones on Celeste and Jesse Forever and If She'll Write a Parks Script

Rashida Jones and Will McCormack are totally Armisen-Brownsteining it, world. (That's shorthand for "being a cool platonic man-woman best friend writing team.") First they dated, then they broke up, then they wrote Celeste and Jesse Forever, and then they did this interview about it, describing it "sort of as an Apatow movie, but for a girl." I plan to start chanting "this year's Bridesmaids" over and over for ten minutes every hour on the hour, gradually getting louder and louder until the trailer comes out.

Plus, now that she's got all this writing street cred, it sounds like only a matter of time before Rashida Jones joins [...]

Andy Samberg on Jorma Taccone's Performance on 'Girls': "What!!?"

This interview mostly focuses on Celeste and Jesse Forever but fast-forward to the 3:11 point… FUN! Imagine you had a friend and you were friends with said friend since you were 12 and then you heard your friend say: "I want you to know, the first time I fuck you, I might scare you a little, because I’m a man, and I know how to do things," how would you react? Yes, exactly like Andy did. There are probably people out there that talk that way to people that look like Allison Williams but those people don't also make songs called "Jizz In My Pants."

Watch the Trailer for 'Celeste And Jesse Forever' For Awhile

More like Celeste and Jesse For-NOT-ever. Get it? Because like they're getting divorced in the movie and stuff. The film, which comes out on August 3rd, is about a couple that ends their marriage in an attempt to save their best friendship. The film stars Rashida Jones (who also co-wrote it) and Andy Samberg and they're generally both really great. Also, my name is in the title, which you probably don't and shouldn't care about but hey, I'm always excited for you when your name is in the title of movies, Spider-man.

Sundance Premieres Will Feature Celeste and Jesse, Adam Scott, Lizzy Caplan & More

The Sundance 2012 premieres have been announced, and like this year's film selections they include lots of comedyfolk! We've got Andy Samberg and Rashida Jones in the long-awaited Celeste and Jesse Forever (with more photos here), Chris Rock in 2 Days in New York, Isla Fisher, Lizzy Caplan, and Adam Scott in Bachelorette (Party Down reunion alert!), and Josh Radnor in Liberal Arts. And Justin Long and Ty Burrell and Parker Posey, oh my. Full synopses below.

Why 'Celeste and Jesse Forever' Took Forever to Be Made

"Oh boy. It was so difficult. It was so difficult. Originally we wrote it, and we wrote it in about four months, and then we sold it really quickly to Fox Atomic, which was the best day of my life, and then a month later they folded. And then we sold it again to this company Overture Films, and then they folded a couple months later." – Rashida Jones in a Hollywood Reporter article on how Celeste and Jesse Forever went from a $20 million movie to a $12 million movie to ultimately an $840,000 movie.

Trade Roundup: Ben Stiller, Paul Feig, Celeste and Jesse, For A Good Time

Ben Stiller will star in, direct, and executive produce a comedy pilot for HBO called All Talk. Written by Jonathan Safran Foer, it's about "the daily and life-altering dramas of a Jewish family in Washington, DC" and is being called “politically, religiously, culturally, intellectually and sexually irreverent.” That is a lot of ways to be irreverent. Let's see if I can be irreverent in all those ways in one sentence: "Hey Obama, Jesus, Broadway and Noam Chomsky: wanna fuck?" NAILED IT.

Paul Feig is on board to direct and executive produce an HBO pilot of his own, from Darren Star, the creator of Sex and the City. The [...]

Rashida Jones, Andy Samberg Get Divorced In Celeste and Jesse Forever

The idea that Andy Samberg and Rashida Jones are starring in Celeste And Jess Forever isn't particularly surprising to us. However, the fact that the film is considered a "dramedy" sort of was. “Our movie is about two people who love each other a ton but they don’t know what to do with that love, and how do you let that person go," Jones explained. "It’s very different from: ‘I like having sex with this person because I’m so modern but then, ooh, maybe I like them.’ I’m less interested in that story. It’s the version of When Harry Met Sally 20 years later, or Blue Valentine. It’s [...]
