Talking to Chelsea Peretti about Standup, 'Call Chelsea Peretti,' Pau Gasol and Jonathan Winters

Chelsea Peretti is a self-proclaimed “silly billy.” She berates people for liking soup, routinely discusses the merits of Lakers forward Pau Gasol, and has recorded an entire song dedicated to Wolf Blitzer. And yet, she’s one of the most hardworking comedians in L.A. right now: Formerly a writer for Parks and Recreation, Peretti performs stand-up tirelessly and now hosts her own call-in podcast, Call Chelsea Peretti.

She’s also known for her irreverent, caps lock-heavy Twitter account, which ranges from helpful tips (“If ur depressed buy a can of whipped cream spray it into your hand + mash it on your face u will def feel like a [...]

Two High-Ranking 'Community' Producers Leave for Fox

Vulture is reporting Community Executive Producers Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan have signed a big deal to create television for 20th Century Fox. Goldman and Donovan have been Dan Harmon's number twos since the premiere (and the namesakes for Fat Neil and Garrett, respectively) so the loss is significant. This doesn't reveal anything about Community's renewal future but let's all just agree to pretend that it's definitely great news, for some reason. It does reveal that Fox is making a hard push towards live action sitcoms, something that before New Girl hadn't been their strong suit for a while. First The Office's Mindy Kaling then 30 Rock's [...]

Comedy's 17 Favorite Comedians

Who are the best working comedians today? Who's creating the best material, influencing the most people and is the flat-out funniest? You could base the answer on a number of factors, be it ratings and box office success or Twitter followers and YouTube views. But I was more interested in who the people who look at and create comedy all day, every day think are really working at the highest level. The people who actually are actively getting comedic content out there, whose lives revolve around comedy. So I asked them.

I asked 12 people in the comedy business who their favorite current comedians are. The resulting list has [...]

Chelsea Peretti and Andre Braugher Join Andy Samberg's Cop Show

Stand-up/Parks and Rec writer Chelsea Peretti and Men of a Certain Age's Andre Braugher have just been cast in a new Fox pilot starring Andy Samberg, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The untitled show was written by Parks and Recreation co-creator Mike Schur and writer Dan Goor, and it follows a diverse group of police officers in a precinct on the edge of New York City. Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, and Stephanie Beatriz are also set to star [...]

Pete Holmes Needs Your Help Making It Weird

Pete Holmes's excellent interview podcast You Made It Weird is about to hit a major milestone: its 100th episode. For the big episode, Holmes is copying Marc Maron once again by having another comedian interview him, choosing Chelsea Peretti for his 100th wheareas Maron opted for Mike Birbiglia for his 200th. Holmes has requested, via Twitter, for fans to submit questions for Chelsea to ask him at ymiw100@gmail.com. Hopefully, Marc Maron will submit some questions teasing Pete Holmes for copying him because that's always the best. Also, when is Holmes gonna take in a bunch of stray cats already? That's something that should have happened by now.

'Esquire' Got Comedians to Pick the Best New Comedians

Esquire brought Aziz Ansari, Jim Gaffigan, Chris Hardwick, Amy Schumer, Andy Kindler, and Seth Herzog in to name their favorite new comedians. The level of newness varied but it's hard to argue with the choices, which included: Chelsea Peretti, Kyle Kinane, Moshe Kasher, Ron Funches, Tig Notaro, James Adomian, Rory Scovel, and John Mulaney.

Preview of April as the New Parks Department Boss

Parks & Recreation is back on Thursday – hazah! If you remember, when we last left our government drones, Leslie had to step down from her position at the Parks Department, to focus completely on her campaign. April was the surprise choice to fill the giant, smiling void. In this preview, it seems like the job is exactly the barrel of 0 monkeys (which is just a barrel, a boring, not fun barrel) April expected; there is a lot of working and talking and dealing with Chelsea Peretti being an asshole. How do you think she'll handle the job and Chelsea?

Chelsea Peretti and Cora Frazier Are Guest Writing at 'SNL' These Next Two Weeks

SNL is bringing in some new guest writers: standup Chelsea Peretti and humor writer Cora Frazier. The duo will be serving as writers for the next two episodes, hosted by Justin Bieber and Christoph Waltz, respectively. Chelsea Peretti wrote on the first season of Comedy Central's Kroll Show and left her writing gig on Parks and Recreation last year after two seasons on the show. This is the first TV writing credit for Cora Frazier, who has had pieces published in The New Yorker and McSweeney's. Peretti instagrammed a photo of herself writing at SNL on Monday, with the caption, "1st day of school! Guest writing [...]

Chelsea Peretti Launches New Call-in Podcast, Probably Won't Get Calls from Creeps

Stand-up and former Parks and Rec writer Chelsea Peretti just launched a new call-in podcast, The Comedy Bureau reports. The show, entitled Call Chelsea Peretti, is part of the Feral Audio network and the first call-in session took place yesterday afternoon. The first episode drops a week from today on Tuesday the 9th, but Peretti will be taking calls next Monday and every Monday at 4PM PST at (323)989-2435 and reading out messages sent to her at callchelseap@gmail.com. As proven by other comedians who have their own call-in shows, like Tom Scharpling and Jake Fogelnest, Chelsea Peretti will surely be receiving calls from the highest caliber [...]

Chelsea Peretti Officially Leaving 'Parks & Recreation'

Also in today's Parks & Recreation walkthrough, Michael Schur was asked about Parks writer Chelsea Peretti: "Chelsea’s leaving our show, sadly. She wants to focus on her stand-up career, and ideally, I think, develop a show for herself." Chelsea had alluded to her leaving during some podcast appearances but now it's official. I guess the question is: Does Joe Mande + Megan Amram = Chelsea Peretti?

SXSW Adds Chelsea Peretti, Amy Schumer, and Jena Friedman to Comedy Lineup After Backlash

After South by Southwest announced their comedy lineup, it was tough to not notice that of 31 of the comedians scheduled, only one was a women. That was kind of shitty! After a bit of a backlash at the conference for being so gender imbalanced, they've added three new lady comics to the festivities: Chelsea Peretti, Amy Schumer, and Jena Friedman. Great comics, all!

Whether or not they added three more women because of the backlash or were working on getting them beforehand, it's great to see them added to the lineup.
