Becoming 'Jonah from Tonga' with Chris Lilley

Chris Lilley is back. His newest show, Jonah from Tonga, premieres on HBO tomorrow night. The six-episode series follows Summer Heights High’s Jonah Takalua as he returns to school in Australia after being expelled from Summer Heights and sent to Tonga.

As in his previous shows Angry Boys, Summer Heights High, and Ja’mie: Private School Girl, Lilley wrote, produced, directed, and stars in Jonah from Tonga. With an all-new cast of supporting characters, the documentary-style series explores rebellious Jonah’s hilarious attempts at being a “good boy,” which take him both to prison and a singing competition.

Chris Lilley's New Show 'Jonah from Tonga' Premieres on HBO This August

After the success of Chris Lilley's Summer Heights High spin-off series Ja'mie: Private School Girl on HBO, the Aussie comedian is moving on to the next teenage character-focused show on the American pay network with the premiere of Jonah from Tonga this August. In a press release today, HBO announced that Jonah's six-episode spin-off show is set to premiere on Friday, August 8th at 10pm with two back-to-back episodes. Click through to watch the trailer.

Watch the First Episode of HBO's New Comedies 'Ja'mie: Private School Girl' and 'Getting On' Online

HBO premiered two new comedies last night, and the network uploaded the first episode of each to YouTube for free, which is a rare move for them. Above is Chris Lilley's new show, Ja'mie: Private School Girl, which follows his Summer Heights High character Ja'mie King. Watch the pilot for Getting On here, starring Alex Borstein, Laurie Metcalf, and Niecy Nash and based on the British show of the same name. Hopefully, HBO continues to do this for new shows in the future.

Watch a Scary Deleted Scene from 'Ja'mie: Private School Girl'

The first season of Chris Lilley's show Ja'mie: Private School Girl comes out on DVD next week, but you can watch an exclusive deleted scene from the extras above in which our Hillford Girls Grammar School hero turns a scary movie date with Mitchell into the most physical flirtfest possible. The DVD will be available starting August 5th, and you can pre-order it now via the HBO website.

As we reported last week, Australian comedian Chris Lilley is making a new show centered around his Summer Heights High character Jonah Takalua. Here's a new teaser for the series, called Jonah from Tonga. The second show from Lilley following a Summer Heights High character after Jai'me: Private School Girl, the show premieres in Australia and the UK in 2014. HBO aired Lilley's last three series but has yet to purchase the Jonah show.

Here's the first full-length trailer for Ja'mie: Private School Girl, Chris Lilley's upcoming HBO show. The six-episode series, which is a co-production between the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the BBC, and HBO, debuts in the US on November 24. The shows sees Lilley's Ja'mie King, best known from the Australian hit Summer Heights High, return to her private school to complete her education.

Chris Lilley's 'Ja'mie: Private School Girl' Will Premiere on HBO Nov. 24

It was announced yesterday that Australian comedian Chris Lilley's new show is Ja'mie King: Private School Girl, revolving entirely around his popular character Ja'mie King from his series Summer Heights High, and this afternoon, HBO announced that they'll be premiering the six-part series Sunday, November 24th, at 10:30pm. This marks a definite change from how HBO has aired Lilley's shows in the past. While they aired Summer Heights High and Angry Boys six months to a year after they originally aired in Australia, Ja'mie King will be airing right around the same time here and abroad.

Chris Lilley's Next Project Is a One-Hour Mockumentary About Snowboarders Who Don't Know How to Snowboard

Australian comedian Chris Lilley (Summer Heights High) is taking on snowboarders for his next comedy. The Sydney Morning Herald reports that he's making a one-hour, one-off mockumentary about snowboarding culture with Australian blogger/prankster David Thorne called Cold Feet: America's Bunny Slopes. The special will air debut on HBO in the US on August 8th and in Australia the UK in September. Chris Lilley's Character Jonah Takalua Is Getting His Own Show

Summer Heights High creator and star Chris Lilley's spinoff Ja'mie: Private School Girl has only just premiered in the US, but he's already announced that another character from Summer Heights will front a new show. Lilley tweeted a confirmation of a BBC story that Lilley character Jonah Takalua will be getting his own show.

Takalua, a rowdy 14-year-old schoolboy, was expelled from Summer Heights High at the end of that series, and sent to live with his extended family in Tonga. The new series will find "Jonah in the midst of island life and experiencing the familiar frustrations of a bored teenage delinquent." The series is due to air in Australia and the UK in [...]

HBO will be premiering Australian comedian Chris Lilley's new show Ja'mie: Private School Girl, which sees him spinning off his popular Summer Heights High character Ja'mie King on Sunday. Getting On an adaptation of the UK series of the same name will also premiere on HBO the same night. Getting On stars Alex Borstein, Niecy Nash, Laurie Metcalf, and Mel Rodriguez.
