W. Kamau Bell to Host New CNN Docu-Series 'United Shades of America'

W. Kamau Bell is headed to CNN. Variety reports that Bell is set to host a new docu-series called United Shades of America, which will be a humorous look at different cultures in the US. Further details and an exact premiere date have not been revealed, but the series is expected to debut sometime next year. Bell's last television hosting gig was on FX's prematurely canceled Totally Biased back in 2013.

Jon Stewart Announces He Wants to Buy CNN Through Kickstarter

During last night's Daily Show, Jon Stewart covered the news that Rupert Murdoch apparently wants to buy Time Warner, though CNN would have to be sold off due to the media mogul's ties to Fox News. Stewart jumped on the opportunity by announcing his $10 billion "Let's Buy CNN" Kickstarter campaign complete with a fake website full of prizes. If you've ever dreamed of being featured in a "CNN 21 box," you can now make that a reality for a mere ten dollars.

Jeff Zucker Wants to Make His Own 'Daily Show' for CNN

Ousted NBC President Jeff Zucker was named the President of CNN Worldwide last month, and today, news comes in that Zucker is trying to develop a late night comedy show a la The Daily Show for CNN. The NY Daily News reports that Zucker is talking to talent agents who represent "smart, funny comics like Jon Stewart" for a possible "late night comedy." Any speculation on who would make a good late night host for CNN? Or for who they're gonna pick, which will be an entirely different thing than who would be good for the job? This won't be the all-news network's first attempt at a late [...]

Apparently, Seth MacFarlane and Jon Stewart Have a "Beef" Over the Writer's Strike

Here's a weird thing: Seth MacFarlane was recently on CNN's show that feature Piers Morgan yelling at people obnoxiously (I assume, based on this clip), and he talked about a bit of bad blood between himself and Jon Stewart. Seth didn't approve of Stewart running a live Daily Show during the writers' strike, so he wrote in a joke at his expense into Family Guy. Stewart didn't like that, so he called him up to air his grievances in a heated phone call that lasted over an hour. Despite MacFarlane claiming that he had never told the story and expressing shock at the investigative abilities of Morgan, [...]

Anderson Cooper and Stephen Colbert Feud Over the RidicuList and Absurd-U-Chart

Stephen Colbert called out Anderson Cooper for ripping off his big board with CNN's RidicuList a couple weeks ago, and the silver fox finally took the bait. Last night, he added Colbert himself to the RidicuList, lobbing bombs back in Colbert's direction with a whole segment dedicated to him. Cooper handles the sparring well, laying down some pretty good jokes of his own (that Ben and Jerry's bit in particular is pretty great). What's next for this faux-feud? The ball's in Colbert's court now, so we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully something involving more large charts and graphs, which are automatically at least somewhat funny.

Jon Stewart on Whether He'll Be at 'Daily Show' for the Presidential Election: "I Do Not Know"

As part of his press tour for his new film Rosewater, Jon Stewart was forced to visit enemy territory over at CNN this weekend, where he had a perfectly awkward conversation with Christiane Amanpour about The Daily Show's many jokes at CNN's expense as well as his near-future plans at Comedy Central and the possibility of becoming a "regular" journalist: "I can pretty confidently state that I will not have my own 'Room of Situations.'"

Stephen Colbert Reads Letters from His WWII Soldier Uncle

Here's Stephen Colbert on CNN's The Lead Friday. Colbert was there to talk about the life of and read letters from Andrew Tuck III, his uncle who fought in WWII and landed in Normandy on D-Day, and the CNN journalist was there to compare his uncle's situation to Band of Brothers a bunch.

Young People Still Like Their News Funny

Last week, among young viewers, the Comedy Central "news" programs' coverage of the Republican National Convention beat that of the legitimate news channels. From 11:00pm – midnight, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report got better ratings than Fox News, MSNBC, and CNN among adults 18-34. Comedy Central averaged about 450,000 viewers compared to Fox's 329,000, MSNBC's 158,000, and CNN's 146,000. They also beat CNN and MSNBC in adults 18-49, but lost out to Fox News and their legions of 35-49 year-old viewers. The only concern here is that The Daily Show and The Colbert Report were mostly covering the news from the previous night. As a result, all these [...]

Anderson Cooper Loses His Giggly Shit Over Gerard Depardieu Pee Story

Anderson Cooper's giggle fit over Gerard Depardieu's whole "peeing on an airplane" thing is the reason you'll be watching this video. When he loses his mind around 2:30, Anderson sounds like a cartoon baby bunny in a $5,000 suit. That being said, I'd also like to tip my rumpled beret to the writers of the RidicuList for squeezing that many pee-related jokes into a 4 minute segment; I counted a conservative 18. Other than the reference to "Depar-two" that sets Cooper a-snickering, the best joke is has to be the Edith Piaf/Edith Pee-off pun. Or possibly "flying Incontinental." Or maybe "an actual thespian thes-peeing." If the RidicuList [...]

Ricky Gervais Will Tell Piers Morgan Why He Said Those Awful, Awful Things

Are you sick of this whole tempest of hurt celebrity feelings in a Golden Globes teacup yet? No? Well, Ricky Gervais will be on CNN's Piers Morgan tonight, surely defending himself against the accusations of a thousand scorned publicists. [via]

Jon Stewart Celebrates 15 Years of Mocking CNN on 'The Daily Show'

Last week, Jon Stewart announced his fake Kickstarter campaign to buy CNN, but guest and CNN's own Fareed Zakaria insisted that The Daily Show doesn't have what it takes to run the 24-hour news network. Thankfully Stewart took some time to prove Zakaria wrong last night by playing tons of old Daily Show clips showing all the great suggestions he's offered CNN over the years, and he even made a website LetsBuyCNN.com so all his Kickstarter backers can have a say in the network's future.

CNN Wants to Snag Jay Leno After 'The Tonight Show'

Longtime late night host Jay Leno is embarking on the homestretch of his NBC contract, and he's already being courted by several outlets including CNN. According to THR, CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker met with Leno in Burbank recently to discuss a possible late-night or primetime show, but Leno is apparently not entertaining any serious offers until his run with NBC officially ends on February 6th. CNN would be an interesting move for Leno, especially considering Zucker's status as former President and CEO of NBC. Zucker unveiled plans for a late-night comedy push at CNN last year, so Leno might be his ticket to making the news [...]

There's Officially Nothing Rob Riggle Can't Do

Come ON, Rob Riggle. So you're a Marine and a former SNL cast member and Daily Show correspondent, and you also can just bend metal at will like you're Magneto or something? That's the story? Pffff. Whatever, Riggle. We've seen this all before. Let me guess, you're also a classically-trained chef? You've competed in the US Open in Men's Singles tennis? You speak fluent Japanese? You go to dinner with Madonna? You got a 2400 on your SATs? You designed a line of combat fatigues that Anna Wintour loved? You were Google's first outside investor? You never sunburn? Stop bragging, Riggle. We don't care.

Larry David Talks About Returning to Standup, Looking Like a Horrorshow in the 80s

Last night Larry David, Susie Essman and Jeff Garlin were on a show hosted by Joy Behar on CNN. Did anyone else know that Joy Behar had her own CNN show? I had no idea. They'll just give out show to anyone over there, eh?

In any case! Larry talked about how he hasn't done standup in 20 years but would consider going back and trying it again. And they had some pretty choice images of an insane-looking young Larry David, complete with a balding jewfro that's nothing short of spectacular. "What was I seeing?," Larry asks of his old reflection. A fair question!
