Jeff Zucker Wants to Make His Own 'Daily Show' for CNN

Ousted NBC President Jeff Zucker was named the President of CNN Worldwide last month, and today, news comes in that Zucker is trying to develop a late night comedy show a la The Daily Show for CNN. The NY Daily News reports that Zucker is talking to talent agents who represent "smart, funny comics like Jon Stewart" for a possible "late night comedy." Any speculation on who would make a good late night host for CNN? Or for who they're gonna pick, which will be an entirely different thing than who would be good for the job? Apparently, Seth MacFarlane and Jon Stewart Have a "Beef" Over the Writer's Strike

Here's a weird thing: Seth MacFarlane was recently on CNN's show that feature Piers Morgan yelling at people obnoxiously (I assume, based on this clip), and he talked about a bit of bad blood between himself and Jon Stewart. Seth didn't approve of Stewart running a live Daily Show during the writers' strike, so he wrote in a joke at his expense into Family Guy. Stewart didn't like that, so he called him up to air his grievances in a heated phone call that lasted over an hour. Anderson Cooper and Stephen Colbert Feud Over the RidicuList and Absurd-U-Chart

Stephen Colbert called out Anderson Cooper for ripping off his big board with CNN's RidicuList a couple weeks ago, and the silver fox finally took the bait. Last night, he added Colbert himself to the RidicuList, lobbing bombs back in Colbert's direction with a whole segment dedicated to him. Cooper handles the sparring well, laying down some pretty good jokes of his own (that Ben and Jerry's bit in particular is pretty great). What's next for this faux-feud? The ball's in Colbert's court now, so we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully something involving more large charts and graphs, which are automatically at least somewhat funny.

Young People Still Like Their News Funny

Last week, among young viewers, the Comedy Central "news" programs' coverage of the Republican National Convention beat that of the legitimate news channels. From 11:00pm – midnight, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report got better ratings than Fox News, MSNBC, and CNN among adults 18-34. Comedy Central averaged about 450,000 viewers compared to Fox's 329,000, MSNBC's 158,000, and CNN's 146,000. They also beat CNN and MSNBC in adults 18-49, but lost out to Fox News and their legions of 35-49 year-old viewers. Anderson Cooper's giggle fit over Gerard Depardieu's whole "peeing on an airplane" thing is the reason you'll be watching this video. When he loses his mind around 2:30, Anderson sounds like a cartoon baby bunny in a $5,000 suit. That being said, I'd also like to tip my rumpled beret to the writers of the RidicuList for squeezing that many pee-related jokes into a 4 minute segment; I counted a conservative 18. Last night Larry David, Susie Essman and Jeff Garlin were on a show hosted by Joy Behar on CNN. Did anyone else know that Joy Behar had her own CNN show? I had no idea. They'll just give out show to anyone over there, eh?

In any case! Larry talked about how he hasn't done standup in 20 years but would consider going back and trying it again. And they had some pretty choice images of an insane-looking young Larry David, complete with a balding jewfro that's nothing short of spectacular. "What was I seeing?," Larry asks of his old reflection. A fair question!
