We may not be at the punch line yet, but the setup keeps getting better and better. Colbert's Super PAC, now known as "Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow", is now fully formed and interfering with becoming involved in the 2012 presidential campaign. And it is finally attracting the attention of the journalists and political insiders who had dismissed Colbert's bad political humor in June. Why are they taking him seriously now? I'm sure there are a whole slew of reasons, but one of them is: now he has money.

Here's Stephen Colbert's Second Super PAC Ad for Iowa

Colbert's Super PAC has been busy! After unleashing its first ad upon unsuspecting Iowans yesterday, they've already released a second ad to the market today. Both ads urge people to write in Rick Parry at the Iowa Straw Poll, but this one does so with much more corn imagery and porn music. Here's the full, ridiculous press release:

Colbert's Super PAC Treasurer Defects to the Rick Perry Campaign

Salvatore Purpura, the treasurer for Stephen Colbert's Super PAC "Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow," resigned from his post last Thursday. Then on Monday it was revealed that he has signed on to be the campaign treasurer for Rick Perry. Yes, the lines between comedy and real-deal politics are somehow getting even more blurry over at the Report. Colbert had this to say: "We’re happy for Sal and we are even happier that Governor Parry has sent the clear signal of which super PAC he trusts to receive all that unlimited money waiting to pour in on his behalf. Loud and clear, sir. Unofficially, loud and clear."

The First Super PAC Ad Stephen Colbert Is Running in Iowa Is Pretty Amazing

Here's the first ad that Stephen Colbert has produced using funds donated to his Super PAC. It begins running in local Iowa markets tonight, and it is entitled "Episode IV: A New Hope," naturally. The message? Write in Rick Parry at the Iowa straw poll. No, not Rick Perry, Rick Parry. The A is for America and also for IowA. This is so brilliant. Colbert Unleashes His Fury Upon the Des Moines Station Refusing to Run His Super PAC Ads

Stephen Colbert's Super PAC has released two new ads in the past couple of days, ads which he's paid to run on three Des Moines stations during their local newscasts. Two of the stations ran them, but a third station, WOI-DT, rejected the ad a mere hour before it was supposed to run because it would be "confusing to voters." Clearly, that excuse just does not fly in Colbert Nation, and Colbert let the managers at the station know how he really feels about them.

The Colbert Super PAC's Real (Secret) Victory

Yesterday the Federal Election Commission in a 5-to-1 vote approved Stephen Colbert's media exemption, allowing him to turn his show into a non-stop fundraiser for some secret, but sure to be hilarious, future purpose. Yet while the FEC allowed Colbert to form his Super PAC, the decision came with some big restrictions, including the limiting of his ads to Comedy Central. Depending on your view of Colbert's goals or your preference for cliché, Colbert has either won the battle and lost the war, or pulled off one of the greatest bait-and-switches in recent comedy.
