At yesterday's Community Comic-Con panel, Dan Harmon and crew gave a few hints as to what we can expect from the show's in-the-works sixth season on Yahoo. Aside from telling the audience that the new episodes won't be available until "probably sometime after Christmas," Harmon also revealed that Community won't be binge-friendly and is slated to premiere a new episode each week instead of premiering the entire season at once.
Harmon also addressed a fan's question about the state of Donald Glover's character Troy, and he responded with this tease: "Troy's out there somewhere. He may be in peril. That's what movies are made of." [...]
While it was previously reported that Sony and Hulu were in talks to revive the cancelled Community for a sixth season on the streaming site, TV Line is now reporting that Hulu has given up on the negotiations. There's still a tiny glimmer of a chance that the show could be revived if Sony can find another suitor by next week, when all of the actors' contracts expire, but that seems pretty unlikely at this point.
But hey, they had a good run! Five seasons is three or four seasons more than one could have really expected a show so willfully weird to last on network TV. [...]
Last Friday, NBC canceled Community after five seasons and, unfortunately, it doesn't look like the cult hit sitcom will be brought back for more episodes on another network or streaming service. It is amazing, though, that Community did manage to stay on the air so long, having been on the verge of cancellation every year, and fans can take comfort in the fact that they at least did get five seasons (four of them with creator Dan Harmon) and 97 episodes (86 with Harmon) of the show.
Like Arrested Development before it, Community stands apart from other network sitcoms because its writers delight in packing the show with in-jokes [...]
It looks like Community won't be getting its six seasons and a movie. After five seasons, NBC canceled the sitcom today, TV Line reports. Community has been on the verge of cancelation each season of its run, with the show's low ratings always being the reason. Creator Dan Hamon returned to the show this season after having been let go the season prior. Cast members Donald Glover and Chevy Chase both departed within the last year.
Community's fate has been up in the air for the last few months. With a sixth season looking like a possibility back in March, it looked like the show had a shot [...]
Community ended its fifth season Thursday, and the very end of the episode was this series of fake NBC promos making fun of the show's home network's programming and scheduling decisions with a promo for a slate of new fake shows starring B.J. Novak, Amber Tamblyn, Questlove, and more. If Community doesn't get renewed for a sixth season (which is still up in the air), this is one cool way to go out. (via Pop Culture Brain)
