Joel McHale to Host the 2014 White House Correspondents Dinner

The Soup host and Community star Joel McHale has been named the host of this year's White House Correspondents' Association Dinner, the association announced today. The annual event, which a comedian hosts in front of an audience that includes the President of the United States and a bunch of Washington, D.C. journalists, will take place on May 3rd this year and as always, will be televised on C-SPAN. The last three of these dinners were hosted by Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Kimmel, and Seth Meyers, respectively, and this is the first time hosting the event for McHale.

Not Many People Watched the Season 5 'Community' Premiere Last Night

The Dan Harmon-helmed Community finally returned to NBC's airwaves last night with a double-episode season premiere from 8:00-9:00PM, but the ratings don't look so great. According to Deadline, the show scored a 1.3 rating, down 32% from the season 4 premiere last February, and even lost viewers during the second half hour, slipping from 3.7 to 3.4 million viewers. That makes last night Community's lowest rated season opener yet, but it still beat out NBC's other comedies Sean Saves the World and The Michael J. Fox Show, which both fell to series lows with an 0.8 rating. Hopefully Community's numbers can recover now that it'll have a relatively [...]

Dan Harmon and His Writers Treated 'Community's Season Premiere Like "A New Pilot for a New Show"

When Community returns for its fifth season, it's going to be a pretty different show. Season 5 is bringing about the return of creator/showrunner Dan Harmon, who was fired following the third season and sat out the critically-maligned fourth. Harmon and his writing staff are approaching season 5 as if they're creating an all new show, in order to keep Community fresh amidst casting changes like Chevy Chase having left and Donald Glover's exit impending as well as the season four decision to have Jeff graduate. The first new episode, written by Harmon and seasons 1-3 right-hand man Chris McKenna, is even called "Repilot."

Here's Harmon explaining the [...]

Chris Elliott to Guest Star on 'Community'

Community is continuing to rack up impressive guest stars for its upcoming fifth season. Chris Elliott is the latest person to be dropping by for an episode, TV Line reports. If you don't want to see spoilers stop reading now. Elliott will be playing Russell Borchert, the peculiar founder of Greendale Community College, who vanished decades ago after a sex scandal.

Community returns for its 13-episode fifth season, with Dan Harmon back and Chevy Chase gone, on January 2nd at 8pm. Other guest stars this year include David CrossVince GilliganMitch Hurwitz, Tim Heidecker, and Eric WareheimNathan Fillion, Paget Brewster, Rob Corddry, Brie Larson, LeVar Burton, Kumail Nanjiani, [...]

Mitch Hurwitz, Tim & Eric to Guest Star on 'Community'

The upcoming season of Community is already set to have plenty of cast changes, and now the show has announced even more big name stars will be seen in the fifth season. Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz, as well as Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, will guest star on the new season, which debuts in January. According to The Wrap, Hurwitz's character, Preston Koogler, is "Greendale’s ultimate party animal. Women want him, and guys want to be him. But, woe to the administrator who tries to stand between Koogler and good times." Hurwitz's casting by returning show runner Dan Harmon is particularly appropriate, as Harmon had a small cameo [...]

The 'Community' Season Finale Is a Two-Parter, and B.J. Novak Is Guest Starring in Part 1

Community's season five finale is starting to look pretty interesting. EW reports that the show is doing a two-part season finale, and that The Office's B.J. Novak, who has his first book out this week, will be guest starring in the first part as "a TV star in a sexy new series." As with any Community season finale, the show's chances for survival are up in the air and the two-parter/meta elements make it feel like Dan Harmon is gonna make something real weird and cool in case this is the end. Of course, like last year, all of NBC's new shows bombed so Parks and Rec, [...]

'Community' (and Dan Harmon) Returns with a Vengeance in Season 5

After being fired from Community in 2012, creator Dan Harmon used his live-show-turned-podcast, Harmontown, to build a cult of devoted followers. It became the platform for him to air his grievances about basically everything in his life from problems with Sony to his family to negative comments on the internet and provide a hyper intensive glimpse into the madness of his creativity. It was on Harmontown where he first announced that he would be back on Community and then proceeded to tear apart season 4 to much public backlash. He’s gone through his process coming back to the show, let secrets for season 5 slip, and used his weekly presence [...]

Here's Another Trailer for 'Community' Season 5

Community returns for its fifth season on January 2nd, with creator Dan Harmon coming back to the show as well. This is the second trailer we've seen for the new season (watch the first one here), and this Hobbit-y trailer makes it look pretty dark.

David Cross Is Guest Starring On 'Community'

Joining an incredible roster of guest stars, David Cross is set to appear on the upcoming fifth season of Community. Vulture reports that he will play Hank Hickey, the estranged son of newcomer Professor Hickey, played by Breaking Bad's Jonathan Banks. The episode will be the show's second Dungeons & Dragons episode, following season two's "Advanced Dungeons & Dragons."

The guest list for season five of Community is a whos-who of comedy stars and friends. Recently announced guests include Vince Gilligan, Mitch Hurwitz, Tim Heidecker, and Eric Wareheim; others include Nathan Fillion, Paget Brewster, Rob Corddry, Brie Larson, LeVar Burton, Kumail Nanjiani, and Ben Folds.

'Community' Will Return for Season 5 on Jan. 2nd

NBC has finally announced when its troubled sitcom Community will return. The show will be taking its Thursday 8pm timeslot back on January 2nd, 2014. Back to back episodes will air that night from 8pm to 9pm, and the show will just be airing one episode a week at 8pm after that. Parks and Recreation, which currently occupies that slot, will be moving back to 8:30 come January. The move to bring Community back was made as a result of NBC canceling Welcome to the Family, its lowest-rated comedy, after only three episodes.

Community ends its fourth season in May, and NBC opted not to put it on the fall schedule [...]

Halfway Through Season 5, 'Community' Is Back to Its Old, Wonderful Self

Coming into this season of Community, there was a lot to contend with.  Dan Harmon returned to run the show, a less than satisfactory season 4 had to be addressed, the departures of Chevy Chase and Donald Glover had to be dealt with, all this added to the typical series lull that comes with a fifth season of a sitcom. With the Olympics taking over our regularly scheduled programming for the next couple weeks, we have some time to really think about how Community is doing this season.

The first six episodes of this 13-episode season have highlighted all of the show’s strengths. Quickly brushing season 4's missteps under the [...]

This Cartoon 'Community' Trailer Is Full of Expository Devices

Here's a trailer for the new Dan Harmon-helmed, Chevy Chase-less fifth season of Community, which works under the guise of a cheery holiday cartoon but is really full of overly meta explanations and references about the crappy scheduling NBC gave them for their first few episodes thanks to the Olympics. Community premieres for a full hour on January 2nd, then after that…well, it's complicated, just watch the trailer.

Here's the Trailer for 'Community' Season 5

Here's the brand new trailer for the first episode, giving us our first glimpses of the Chevy Chase-less version of the show with creator Dan Harmon back in the driver's seat after a season off.

Vince Gilligan to Make His Acting Debut on an Episode of 'Community'

Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan is set to try his hand at comedic acting. He'll be guest starring in an upcoming episode of Community, according to EW. Gilligan will be playing a "smooth-talking gold digger" who winds up in the middle of a fight between Annie and Abed. The episode is being filmed this week and will air as a part of the show's upcoming fifth season, which sees the return of showrunner/creator Dan Harmon and kicks off on January 2nd, 2014.

Breaking Bad regular Jonathan Banks, who played Mike Ehrmantraut on that series, will also be guest starring on Community during its new season. He'll be [...]
