A Chat with the Cast and Crew of 'The Simpsons'

The Paley Center for Media, which has locations in both New York and LA, dedicates itself to the preservation of television and radio history. Inside their vast archives of more than 150,000 television shows, commercials, and radio programs, there are thousands of important and funny programs waiting to be rediscovered by comedy nerds like you and me. Each week, this column will highlight a new gem waiting for you at the Paley Library to quietly laugh at. (Seriously, it’s a library, so keep it down.)

Parks and Rec Recap: "Born & Raised"

The Parks and Recreation book, Pawnee: The Greatest Town in America was released this week, and, as a tie-in, this week’s Parks and Rec involved Leslie Knope dealing with the aftermath of writing said book. In the context of the show, Leslie wrote Pawnee on her own without any intention of releasing it to the public, but her campaign manager convinced her to publish it to generate some heat for her impending City Council campaign. In Pawnee, the highest honor a printed work can achieve is being named a part of talk show host Joan Callamezzo’s Book Club, and naturally, driven Leslie seeks out to win this title.

John Hodgman and Dan Castellaneta to Play Competing Public Radio Hosts on 'Parks and Rec'

The Daily Show's John Hodgman and The Simpsons' Dan Castellaneta are set to guest star on an upcoming episode of Parks and Recreation, EW reports. They'll be playing rival public radio hosts, with Castellaneta reprising his character of Pawnee's Derry Murbles, who he's played twice on the show before, and Hodgman making his Parks and Rec debut as Eagleton host August Clementine. With Eagleton recently having been absorbed into Pawnee, Murbles is now forced to share his show with Clementine. The episode is expected to air later this season after the Winter Olympics.

Homer Simpson Lends His Voice To Pawnee

Vulture reports that The Simpsons' Dan Castellaneta will cameo on Parks And Rec this fall, corporal human form and all. The voice of Homer Jay Simpson (and it's accompanying meat carrying case) will guest star as a "NPR-ish talk-show host" in episode three of Parks' upcoming season, for which I'm imagining he'll bust out a sort of a Sideshow Mel/Hans Moleman hybrid.

The Lost 'Simpsons' Spin-offs

When The Simpsons debuted 25 years ago as a series of shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show, it was hard to expect that it would become one of the most successful and longest-running franchises in movie and TV history. While The Simpsons spun off from (and quickly eclipsed) The Tracey Ullman Show, it seems a little odd that, given the show’s rampant popularity, we have yet to see a spin-off from The Simpsons, itself. The show has occasionally mocked the concept of TV spin-offs – most notably in the Troy McClure-hosted “Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase” – but that doesn’t mean Fox and the Simpsons creative team haven’t attempted to use [...]
