Dan Fogelman Is Producing an NBA-Set Comedy for ABC

ABC has a new comedy in the works. Deadline reports that the network has given a put pilot commitment to an untitled single-camera comedy from Trophy Wife writers Casey Windsor and David Johnson described as "a buddy comedy set in the world of the NBA about a rookie who doesn’t speak English and a translator who doesn’t speak basketball." Dan Fogelman, who is also developing two other ABC comedies with Jimmy Kimmel and Simon Stephenson, will co-executive produce with Aaron Kaplan and called the project "basically the international Odd Couple set in the NBA." This makes the second NBA-themed comedy recently put in development at ABC [...]

Morgan Freeman Added to a Movie Where 'The Hangover' Meets 'Space Cowboys'

Morg-Freems is the third actor, joining Robert De Niro and Michael Douglas, added to Last Vegas, a movie about old bros going to Las Vegas (More like Bucket (filled with coins) List). Here's the surprising part: the film might be good. The movie was written by Dan Fogelman who wrote last year's very solid Crazy, Stupid, Love and John Turtletaub is set to direct, who beyond doing the National Treasure movies also directed the "classic" buddy comedy Cool Runnings. They're still looking for a fourth old bro so if you know any old people, send them to Hollywood. I'd like to suggest Rip Torn because he's kind of like [...]

Trade Roundup: Kerri Kenney-Silver, Dan Fogelman

In addition to its three script orders earlier today, Comedy Central has started developing a half-hour scripted/improv mockumentary from Reno 911!'s Kerri Kenney-Silver and UCBer Jamie Denbo. The show is set at "a low-rent legal brothel in Winnemucca, Nevada called Dame Delilah’s Rabbit Hole Ranch," and Kenney-Silver will play Dame Delilah. Man I hope this becomes a real show.

ABC has green-lit a pilot by Crazy, Stupid, Love screenwriter Dan Fogelman about "a family that moves into a highly desirable gated community in New Jersey only to discover the entire neighborhood is made up of aliens disguised as humans." Seems like "weird neighbors" is a trend this [...]

Writer/Doctor Simon Stephenson Is Developing a Medical Comedy for ABC

A day after announcing the development of three new comedy series, ABC has added yet another with THR's report that the network has given a put-pilot commitment to a medical comedy called Family Practice. Written by doctor/writer Simon Stephenson — who wrote an episode of the UK series Eleventh Hour as well as a memoir Let Not the Waves of the Sea — the comedy "centers on a dysfunctional family of doctors who run a family practice in small town America." Stephenson will executive produce alongside Dan Fogelman, who is also serving as an EP on an in-the-works ABC comedy series based on [...]

Ben Affleck Lends His Mug to a Political Comedy From the Writer of Crazy, Stupid, Love

…and it'll be called Crazy, Stupid, Politics. Wait, that's already a Bill Maher show. But politics are definitely getting a comedy boost in this election year, with the Ferrell-Galifianakis movie Southern Rivals and now the Ben Affleck-starring Nathan Decker, written by Dan Fogelman and centering on "a politician who is caught in an affair and returns to his hometown to confront his past." Bet you five bucks I can predict the name of Affleck's character before even seeing the trailer. It's Nathan Decker. Because that's what the movie is called. I bet you.

Jimmy Kimmel Sells a Comedy to ABC Based on Carson Daly's Post-MTV Career

A ton of shows based on the lives of once-much more famous stars are currently in the works on the major networks, including series about Johnny Knoxville (ABC), Weezer's Rivers Cuomo (Fox), John Stamos (Fox) and The Voice cohost Adam Levine (NBC), and ABC just added another from an unlikely source. According to THR, late night host Jimmy Kimmel has sold an untitled half-hour sitcom to the network based on the post-TRL career of his longtime friend Carson Daly, who is attached to the project as a producer. Dan Fogelman — who created ABC's The Neighbors and is also working on the Stamos project [...]

Trade Roundup: Steve Carell, How I Met Your Mother, Dan Fogelman

Steve Carell is going to guest star on The Simpsons! Next fall, he'll play Fat Tony's accountant Dan Gillick, "who may go from crunching numbers to crunching skulls when he’s put in charge of the mob by Fat Tony while the big boss serves jury duty." Fantastic.

The Three Stooges' Will Sasso will return to How I Met Your Mother as Doug the bartender for the show's New Year's Eve episode. Hopefully his appearance will be a more slapsticky and Stoogelike reincarnation of the fistfight his character started in season four.

ABC's alien comedy pilot by Dan Fogelman has procured a Modern Family director, [...]
