Talking to Dana Gould About His New Special, Podcast, and Comedy Heroes

Last month, veteran standup Dana Gould released his newest standup special and album, I Know It’s Wrong. Debuting at number one on iTunes in comedy, the album is his first since 1998. Gould took this hiatus from extended standup to serve as a writer and producer for The Simpsons for seven years. Now, he’s busier than ever, with his podcast, The Dana Gould Hour, pilot projects, acting, and, of course, standup.

I got the chance to talk with Gould about his special, the podcast audience, and being a “comedian’s comedian.”

The Dead Poets Society is Alive and S'more-Free

You can glean a few things from this video:

1. Eddie Pepitone loves s'mores. 2. Matt Oswalt love puddin', obviously. 3. Dana Gould loves to point out he's wearing glasses just like Ke$ha. 4. Patton Oswalt loves receiving directions from Robin Williams. 5. Robin Williams loves human hearts, if and only if they're still beating.

What a group, amirite? Sillies.

Dana Gould and Dave Grohl Make for a Surprising Pair Behind a Rock Band Sitcom

FX is developing a sitcom that's executive produced by Dave Grohl and created by (and starring) comedian Dana Gould. It's about "a rock band on the verge of mega-stardom who finds itself on the verge of breaking up and is forced to seek professional help in a last-ditch effort to stay together." In other words, it's about a band that can't stop (Foo) fighting. Boy, I hope it gets a good writeup on New York Magazine's entertainment website, (Them Crooked) Vulture(s). If it did, I bet Gould and Grohl would just be in Nirvana. Chuckle chuckle (band reference) chortle.
