NBC Signs Eddie Izzard to a Talent Holding Deal, Hoping to Develop a New Show Around Him

Comedian Eddie Izzard has signed a one-year talent holding deal with Eddie Izzard, Variety reports. The network will develop potential projects around Izzard or cast him in previously-existing pilots, with Izzard set to receive an executive producer credit on a series if he is cast as the lead. Izzard recently guest starred on two episodes of the NBC drama Hannibal, and he's set to appear in the show's upcoming second season. With NBC's new comedies Sean Saves the World and Michael J. Fox Show struggling in the ratings, there's plenty of room for a new sitcom starring Eddie Izzard on the schedule next season.

Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: 'Save The Date'

Save The Date, a quirky comedy starring Allison Brie and Lizzy Caplan is out on Blu-Ray today. The indie romcom was directed by the relatively obscure Michael Mohan, who has so far been more prolific in short films. It was originally released late last year on Video On Demand (VOD). Save The Date focuses on two sisters, Sarah and Beth (played by Caplan and Brie, respectively), who take completely different approaches to love — Beth loves the notion of a classic romance, wedding cake tasting and all, while Sarah treats commitment like a disease to be avoided at all costs. Together, the two sort through their own relationship problems [...]

Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: 'Nurse Jackie' Season 4

Season 4 of Showtime pill-popping adultery medical comedy series Nurse Jackie comes out on DVD and Blu-Ray today. Emmy-award winning Edie Falco stars as the titular Nurse Jackie, this season struggling with sobriety and being a mom in New York City and also nurse things at her work. The show returns for a fifth season this spring so there is still time for you to catch up, probably with the help of this DVD.

Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: 'Eugene Mirman – An Evening of Comedy in a Fake Underground Laboratory'

The DVD special features include extra material cut from the show as well as a highlight reel from Mirman’s Comedy Central pilot Eugene! in which Mirman ran a fake television network — “like Oprah, but also, not like Oprah.”

Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: 'Twenty-Twelve: The Complete Series'

Fans of Downton Abbey may be pleased to know that you can also catch Hugh Bonneville in another show — Twenty Twelve — on DVD starting this week. Jim Gaffigan Signs a Deal to Write a Second Book

Comedian Jim Gaffigan has landed a second book deal. Crown Publishing announced yesterday evening that they've signed Gaffigan to write his second book, an untitled collection of essays on his favorite topic: food. It's expected to come out sometime in 2014, and the deal is for seven figures. Gaffigan's first book, Dad Is Fat, revolved around his life as a husband and father of five and debuted at #5 on the New York Times bestseller’s list last month. Gaffigan's book deal comes in the wake of news that his autobiographical CBS sitcom pilot, which the network passed on last month, may be retooled by the network for next season, so it's [...]

Great news for grandpas and robots and the people who love them: Robot & Frank is now on DVD! In the case of this movie, your father will use the robot to get back into the jewel-thieving business. Frank Langella stars as Frank with Peter Sarsgaard as the robot (named Robot), James Marsden as the enabling son, and Liv Tyler as the daughter. Susan Sarandon rounds out the cast as a local librarian and love interest for Frank. [...]

Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: 'Cougar Town' Season 3

Season 3 of Cougar Town is out on DVD this week, and if you've already taken the time to get over that off-putting name, you should probably go ahead and pick it up. The Courteney Cox and Busy Philipps-starring sitcom made its debut on TBS this January and if a show is good enough to get booted off of network TV only to have basic cable come to its rescue, it's probably good enough for your DVD shelf.

Rashida Jones and Writing Partner Will McCormack Sign a Two-Year TV Deal

As writers, the duo is best known for penning the screenplay to the movie Celeste & Jesse Forever, starring Jones and Andy Samberg, which premiered at Sundance last year and received generally positive reviews. In addition to the Warner Bros. deal, Jones and McCormack are writing the movie version of Jones's graphic novel miniseries Frenemy of the State, about a 20something socialite working undercover for the CIA. Under their new TV deal, Jones and McCormack will write and produce comedy and drama shows for both network [...]

Until that happens, Celeste and Jesse can tide you over.
