Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: Pete Holmes's 'Nice Try, The Devil'

Nice Try, The Devil, the new Comedy Central standup special from the You Made it Weird and future TBS late night host (and also voice of that E-Trade baby from commercials) Pete Holmes premiered on Sunday, and now it's available on CD+DVD. The album is Holmes's second, a follow-up to his 2011 debut Impregnated With Wonder, and a lot has happened in Holmes's career since then, mostly the aforementioned You Made it Weird and late night things. Bonus material on the DVD includes two sets from Holmes on John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show and his appearance on Comedy Central Presents. If you are a [...]

Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: 'Bachelorette' on DVD

In case you missed it during its short theatrical release and its availability online since then, last year's movie Bachelorette is out today on DVD and Blu-ray! The black comedy, written by Leslye Headland and based on her play of the same name, split critics and audiences fairly evenly, but the movie was produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay and boasts an all-star cast, which includes Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher, Lizzy Caplan, Adam Scott, Rebel Wilson, Horatio Sans, and James Marsden, so if nothing else all those names of people you like in other things warrant checking it out.

Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: 'Wreck-It Ralph'

This week animated Disney feature Wreck-it Ralph comes out on DVD and Blu-Ray. The movie boasts a huge cast of comedians, including John C. Reilly, Jane Lynch, Jack McBrayer, Sarah Silverman, Alan Tudyk, Mindy Kaling, and more, all as various video game characters living inside their respective arcade games. Everything's okay until one day bad guy Ralph (voiced by Reilly) decides to leave his game in search of something more. The movie is charming and intricate, there are a lot of cameos from famous video game characters (and Skrillex), and also it's probably the only movie you can watch an 8-bit Jack McBrayer fall in love [...]

Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: 'Argo'

Although it would be quite a stretch to call Ben Affleck's movie about the 1979 Iran hostage a comedy, Argo is exceptional enough and has just the right amount of comedy in it for us to recommend it. Alan Arkin, John Goodman, and Bryan Cranston round out the cast of CIA and Hollywood guys pretending to make a sci-fi movie in order to get a group of Americans out of Iran. The movie won best motion picture drama at the Golden Globes and Ben Affleck took home best director, so get the DVD (or the Blu-Ray combo pack) if you haven't seen it yet and [...]

Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: 'Say Anything'

Do you like Valentine’s Day? If so, do you try to coordinate your DVD purchases with whatever holiday you might be celebrating? If so, maybe you’d like to buy Cameron Crowe’s 1989 classic rom-com Say Anything which Amazon has recently put out at discounted DVD and Blu-Ray prices. Fall in love all over again with Lloyd Dobler as he falls in love with Diane Court and then gets his heart broken and then falls in love with her a couple more times.

Do you not like Valentine’s Day, or you do but you don’t get why you’d buy a DVD today if you’re not even [...]

Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: 'Repo Man' Criterion Collection

Owning a 1980s cult classic comedy sci-fi action movie on DVD can be fun, but owning a copy of that same movie on a Criterion Collection DVD can be even more fun, especially if your idea of fun is having pretty DVD cases lined up on your shelf. This week the Criterion Collection adds the 1984 Harry Dean Stanton and Emilio Estevez-starring Repo Man to its catalog, and the sweet new restored version of the movie available on DVD and Blu-Ray comes complete with a lot of extras like interviews and conversations with the director, other filmmakers, and some of the musicians from the soundtrack including Iggy [...]

Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: 'Enlightened' Season 1

It took a while for Enlightened to fully gain the public's recognition, but by the time it finished its second season this past Sunday, it had become one of the more talked-about shows on television. The emotional semi-comedy, created by and starring Laura Dern and Mike White (and featuring Jason Mantzoukas, Molly Shannon, Luke Wilson, and more) may or may not be returning to HBO next year for a third season, but in the meantime you can listen to all the buzz and pick up the first season to check it out. By the time you're done maybe the second season will on DVD already! [...]

Fun Thing To Buy of the Day: Louis C.K.-Related Stuff

Louis C.K. has a lot of wisdom on a lot of different subjects, so much so that we collected a whole bunch of it in one place for you guys. Through multiple television projects and a handful of beyond excellent stand-up specials, Louis C.K. has created the kind of comedy that is worth spending money on so you can hear what the man has to say and laugh about it and keep it forever and show to your parents and grandparents. Whether it's his HBO multi-cam sitcom Lucky Louie, seasons one and two of his celebrated FX series Louie, or any [...]

In honor of the mockumentary's 12-year anniversary (?) Best in Show is finally available on Blu-Ray starting today! See all the breeds — and all the dog owners — in stunning high definition, or, if that's not really important to you, just pick up the disc so that you can enjoy Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Jane Lynch, Jennifer Coolidge, Parker Posey, and more in one of Christopher Guest's best projects. Re-watch it for the millionth time or if you've never seen it then actually just watch it because this is important for you to do. God loves a terrier.

Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: 'Nurse Jackie' Season 4

Season 4 of Showtime pill-popping adultery medical comedy series Nurse Jackie comes out on DVD and Blu-Ray today. Emmy-award winning Edie Falco stars as the titular Nurse Jackie, this season struggling with sobriety and being a mom in New York City and also nurse things at her work. The show returns for a fifth season this spring so there is still time for you to catch up, probably with the help of this DVD.

Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: 'John Dies at the End'

Starting this week sci-fi horror comedy John Dies at the End is available on DVD and Blu-Ray. The movie, based on Cracked senior editor David Wong's 2007 comic horror novel of the same name and directed by Don Coscarelli, the same guy behind sci-fi horror comedy and semi-comedy movies Bubba Ho-Tep and Phantasm, is about two college dropouts, a psychedelic drug called Soy Sauce, and demons. Paul Giamatti also stars in and produced the movie, which had a lukewarm response from some critics but got a bit of a cult following, too, and also Julie Klausner and Vulture made this video of Giamatti [...]

Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: 'Delocated' Seasons 1 and 2

For the past few years Delocated has existed as one of the stranger live action shows on Adult Swim (but always in good company). Jon Glaser's creation ended its third season last April and returns tonight for a special series finale. Although the show will be missed, you can relive the first two seasons with Delocated: The Complete Seasons One and Two on DVD. Watch, enjoy, and celebrate the fact that a guy in a ski mask with a voice modulator exploiting his family's situation in the Witness Protection Program for reality TV got to be a real comedy show.

Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: 'Rocko's Modern Life' The Complete Series

This week the complete series of Joe Murray's Nickelodeon cartoon Rocko's Modern Life is available on DVD for the first time ever. The show, which originally ran fifty-two episodes divided into four seasons from 1993 to 1996, developed a loyal fanbase and became a cult hit. As if being a widely celebrated and ground-breaking cartoon isn't enough, the show also has a lot of connections to cool comedies — Rocko is voiced by Reno 911's Carlos Alazraqui, and the show's crew and cast of voice actors includes a lot of people involved with other Nick cartoons like Ren and Stimpy and Spongebob Squarepants (including Spongebob himself and [...]

Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: 'Robot & Frank'

Great news for grandpas and robots and the people who love them: Robot & Frank is now on DVD! The film, which came out last summer, tells the story of what happens when, instead of taking your aging father to a nursing home, you give him a robot. In the case of this movie, your father will use the robot to get back into the jewel-thieving business. Frank Langella stars as Frank with Peter Sarsgaard as the robot (named Robot), James Marsden as the enabling son, and Liv Tyler as the daughter. Susan Sarandon rounds out the cast as a local librarian and love interest for Frank. [...]
