This Week In Web Videos: 'Precious Plum'

Way back, a long long time ago (in the early 2000s), a little sketch group called Dutch West became one of the first collectives of writers and performers who were adept at pumping out consistently high-quality comedic content for next to nothing or, literally, nothing. Their undeniable talents soon landed many of them at CollegeHumor where they formed an Internet comedy super group that has helped propel that site into one of the most recognizable online brands in the entertainment space. (Full disclosure: I work there, but I thought all this even when I didn’t.) Year after year, video after video, the CollegeHumor Originals team has managed to turn [...]

Make Yourself Comfy with Abra Tabak #8: "How Much Of" with Elaine Carroll, Nate Dern, & Tim Martin

In this week’s episode of “Make Yourself Comfy with Abra Tabak” Elaine Carroll (Very Mary Kate), Nate Dern (Friday Night Hot Chicks Mic), and Tim Martin (Airwolf) join Abra to create a world where Gilbert Gottfried and Sean Connery have a web series, Meryl Streep comes in from the cold, and a town’s love must be measured.

This Week's Web Series You Need to Watch: Very Mary-Kate

Most celebrity impersonations are to comedy audiences what in-flight meals are to airline passengers, bland and predictable, yet almost satiating in their familiarity. What you’re consuming isn’t outstanding, but it’s known and, therefore tolerable — even a little bit good.

Robert DeNiro does make that scrunched up pensive face, and Vince Vaughn does talk really fast, and, oh, those eyebrow movements — that’s classic Nicholson.

When initially presented with a talented mimic, it’s hard not to be entertained. It’s true. But eventually that moment of recognition that draws us to well-executed impressions loses its allure. The celebrities imitated are the ones with the most cartoonish voices, cadences, and physical [...]

Very Mary Kate Returns With a Full Series on CollegeHumor

Elaine Carroll's wonderful Very Mary Kate web series, in which she plays one half of the Olsen twins and sometimes both halves, is back after a four month hiatus. Even better? It's moved to CollegeHumor, where it's kicking off a four-month, twice-a-week run of new episodes.

Watch Tom Lennon and Elaine Carroll in 'The Philanthropist'

Here's a new video called "The Philanthropist" starring Tom Lennon and Very Mary-Kate's Elaine Carroll as a selfish faux-philanthropist and a woman applying to be his assistant, respectively. This one really takes Tom Lennon's douchebag-playing abilities to the next level.

Very Mary Kate Is Back and Texting Faster Than Ever

We knew she would come back to us! Well, we knew since last week. Very Mary Kate has returned, along with Fat Professor, Jewish-Looking Girl and Bodyguard's disembodiguarded voice. It's so good to see/hear them all again! If you have comments on the video, raise your hand. (Then put it down on your keyboard and type a comment.)

Rachel Maddow Grills Local Politician

Here's a new one from Wiseguy Pictures, featuring Jon Gabrus and Elaine Carroll (the creator/star of Very Mary Kate). She's got a pretty great Maddow impression, eh?

Talking to 'Very Mary-Kate' Creator Elaine Carroll About the Appeal of the Olsens and the Secret to a Great Web Series

It's easy to make fun of celebrities; just look at how many TV shows and Twitter feeds are devoted to nothing else. But it's a skill to spoof celebrity culture beyond the obvious one-liners and bitchy asides. Web series Very Mary-Kate imagines the world of the former Full House star filled with prescription pills, endless blimps, and an over-accommodating bodyguard (known only as Bodyguard). But the show's charm lies in its firm grasp of this alternative universe and the engaging, if eccentric, relationships at the heart of it, making the series as intriguing as it is hysterical.

The CollegeHumor series begins its new season this afternoon with an [...]

Very Mary Kate Will Make a Triumphant and Fat-Free Return on Dec. 1

Elaine Carroll's amazing web series Very Mary-Kate is coming back for a third season. New episodes will appear magically on CollegeHumor starting Dec. 1. Rejoice! Or maybe just take like a suuuuper quick nap till then, 'cause you should probably save your energy for the celebratory blimp ride you'll want to take. P.S. If you missed the first and second seasons, it's never too late to get convinced before Thursday.

Very Mary-Kate Keeps Getting Better

Elaine Carroll's Very Mary Kate web series, in which she plays both of the Olsen twins as they navigate life as former child stars and current multi-gajillionaires, is amazing. And despite pumping out two episodes a week for CollegeHumor these days, it hasn't seen a dip in quality. I think it's because she isn't afraid to turn the focus to her guest performers regularly, be it spot-on Philip Seymour Hoffman and Woody Allen impressions or Will Hines' awesome professor, such as this episode. She's creating a world around these characters — a very weird world — and it's very fun to keep checking in with it.
