John Oliver Reacts to Accusations of Crashing the FCC Website

On his new show Last Week Tonight this week, John Oliver encouraged fans to head to the FCC website to complain about cable companies campaigning to end net neutrality and the FCC site subsequently crashed. Here's Oliver on Charlie Rose yesterday responding to allegations that he caused the crash. "We didn’t crash their website, Charlie — that’s a huge accusation," said Oliver. "We merely pointed people to their website and told them why they should be angry about it, and they went in droves."

The FCC Banned The Latest Episode of Fox's 'High School USA!'

Fox's new animated sitcom High School USA!, part of its Saturday night ADHD block, is running into trouble from the FCC. Creator Dino Stamatopoulos (Moral Orel, Community) posted on Facebook Friday, "FCC won't let us air this week's High School USA! this week. Pretty great." The episode did not air on Saturday. Titled "Best Friends Forever," the controversial episode involved teenage girl Amber (voiced by Zosia Mamet) getting upset when she learns that her mother is an amateur porn star, while her friend Marsh (voiced by Vincent Kartheiser) tries to get the two of them to make peace. Stamatopoulos added that if the episode airs (presumably with some [...]

The Federal Communications Commission has issued Turner Broadcasting, owners of cable channel TBS, a $25,000 fine over a Conan promo from April 2012, which used "emergency weather tones to gain attention for a commercial regarding Jack Black being on the show." In a statement, the FCC's chief said that "this activity not only undermines the very purpose of a unique set of emergency alert sounds, but it is a clear violation of the law.”

Here Are a Bunch of FCC Complaints About 'The Simpsons'

The website Government Attic obtained a list of indecency complaints the FCC has received from viewers about The Simpsons from 2010 to 2013, after requesting it via the Freedom of Information Act. There's also a report (pdf) on South Park complaints too. (via Gawker)

My favorite Simpsons complaint is one that simply reads, "I Don't Think So, Mr. Simpson, Because I Would Make 20th Century Fox Film Corporation Take This Evil show Off The Air Only To Get Small Wonder Back Onto The Channel Every Sunday Night." The lengthy document contains tons more weird complaints from weird people, and we've collected the best ones (mostly [...]
