Watch the 'Futurama' Pre- and Post-Finale Live Shows with the Cast and Crew

After seven seasons and 140 episodes, Futurama ended its run Wednesday night. The show's cast and crew sat down with the omnipresent Chris Hardwick for a pre- and post-finale chat in front of a live audience, and here are both of those. Hardwick is joined by creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen, voice actors Phil LaMarr and Lauren Tom, and director Peter Avanzino for the pre-show (above), and for the post-show (below), he's with Groening and Cohen, voice actors Billy West and Maurice LaMarche, and producer Patric Verrone.

'How I Met Your Mother's Final Season Is Taking Place Over One Weekend

The President of CBS revealed some surprising information about how the ninth and final season of How I Met Your Mother will play out this, so, needless to say, if you don't want recent/future stuff spoiled, stop reading this now. Last week's Season 8 finale featured the audience finally catching a glimpse of the titular mother, played by Cristin Milioti (Sleepwalk with Me), but she didn't end up actually meeting Ted. Co-creator Carter Bays previously said the final season will tell "the epic story of the longest wedding weekend ever," and CBS boss Nina Tassler confirmed to TV Line today that the entire 24-episode season will take [...]

Tonight's 'Parks and Rec' Was Written as a Potential Finale Because NBC Originally Ordered a Shorter Season

Hitfix's Alan Sepinwall has a long interview with Parks and Recreation co-creator/showrunner Mike Schur today, in which he reveals they made the first of tonight's two new episodes a possible series finale because NBC had only ordered a 13-episode season originally. The network ordered nine more episodes for a full 22 shortly after the episode was filmed, but the writers made it a special episode with a sense of closure just in case. Here's Schur explaining the situation:

"The way we operate every year is we that don't know what our future is. So we try to tell the juiciest, most interesting stories we can tell. And at the end [...]

On 'Girls'

Last night, the first season of Girls ended and I couldn’t help but think of a comment on our last post about the show:

Don’t get me wrong, Lena has hit the head squarely in terms of entertainment. However, as speaking for a voice of a generation, what generation is that—overtly Anglo, upper-middle class, self-absorbed and self-critiqued with a pronounced gumption for entitlement coupled with at best, dubious work ethic…if so, then yes, she does speak for those folks.

Yes. That is exactly whom she speak for or as. Girls is a show that captures one of the worst parts of the current worst generation ever* and that [...]

'30 Rock' and 'Parenthood' Officially Renewed, 'Office' Regulars Returning – Woo and Hoo

It has been speculated for a week or so but it still feels nice to get an official word. As we reported, 30 Rock will be given an abbreviated final season. It's sad news for a show arguably still at the height of its powers but it’s a hell of a lot better than it just getting taken off without a finale. In a time rife with cancellation speculation (band name?), it’s nice for a show like 30 Rock to be able to write itself a proper ending; it's what Tina Fey always wanted. No word on Community and Parks & Recreation but things still look solid, [...]

'Futurama's Final Episode Airs Tonight

After 14 years (on and off), seven seasons, and two networks, Futurama is endings its run with one final episode tonight. Comedy Central, who revived the series in 2010, opted to cancel it in April. Tonight's final episode, entitled "Meanwhile," finds Professor Farnsworth introducing a device that can transport people back in time 10 seconds, while Fry proposes to Leela once more. And as is required by law for TV shows these days, there's a Chris Hardwick hosted aftershow and preshow online.

Steve Carell Will Be in the 'Office' Finale After All

Steve Carell has been saying for over a year now that he doesn't want to come back for The Office's May 16th finale and showrunner Greg Daniels denied Carell's involvement in the final episode as recently as last week, but despite all that, TV Line reports today that Carell will be back to say goodbye one last time. TV Line's source says that Carell's appearance in the last episode is closer to a cameo than a full-on guest appearance, but he will allegedly be in the episode somewhere – unless this is just another lie in this constantly flip-flopping story.

Nancy Pelosi Will Be in the '30 Rock' Finale

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi will be making her sitcom acting debut in a few weeks on the series finale of 30 Rock, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The long-running NBC show's hour-long swan song will air January 31st. There's no word on the nature of Pelosi's role in the show, but it's safe to assume she's playing herself in a quick cameo just last past political 30 Rock guests Al Gore, Condoleezza Rice, and Michael Bloomberg. In a creepy but charming statement about her guest spot to The Washington Post, Pelosi said, "I would do almost anything Tina Fey asks me to do." So far, Ice-T [...]

Mick Jagger Promos the 'SNL' Finale; Wastes Magic

If your favorite part of SNL each week is the promos, than this is your finale. They even have Kristen Wiig in them, for what might be her last promos until she hosts the show in two seasons from now. Also, man did that wrinkly Australian fellow teach her a lot of sex stuff when she was a kid.

Mick Jagger to Host, Perform on 'SNL' Finale

On May 19th, for the finale, Mick Jagger will be the famous person with burden of trying to follow Will Ferrell as SNL host. Mick Jagger has been the musical guest three times and kind of hosted once, as part of the Rolling Stones (they played three songs and appeared in only two sketches; Ed Koch did the monologue). Most famously, Jagger took part in the above mirror sketch that was reprised earlier this season with Jimmy as the one being impersonated (below). Is Mick a good choice? Is it going to be like the Betty White episode but male? Do you think there will be a [...]

'The Office' Series Finale Review: Goodbye, Dunder Mifflin

After 201 episodes of Dunder Mifflin adventures, The Office — which set the trend for dry, music-free, single-camera American mockumentary sitcoms for years to come and spawned a countless trail of recaps, spoilers, reviews, thinkpieces, and GIFs — waved its final goodbye last night. While the past two episodes "Livin' the Dream" and "A.A.R.M." felt more like caps to this season's storylines, "Finale" served as a celebration of the show that went from the struggling underdog it was back in 2005 to the powerhouse NBC Thursday night leader of nearly a decade. The episode — which included some weirdly awesome cameos by Seth Meyers, Bill Hader, Eric Wareheim, Greg [...]

Will Steve Carell Be Back for 'The Office' Finale After All?

While Steve Carell has said he has no interest in returning for The Office's series finale, TV Line reports today that "producers mounted an 11th hour effort last month to coax Carell into making a cameo" in the finale. TV Line's source refused to confirm or deny whether the effort was successful, but Carell was on set for the shooting of the final episode. Greg Daniels and the network declined to comment, while one of Carell's representatives said that, although he was on set, he didn't film anything. Despite that, a source on the show cryptically told TV Line, "Don't rule anything out." The finale airs May [...]

Ice-T Will Be in the '30 Rock' Finale

Beloved rapper, actor, and reality TV star Ice-T revealed via Instagram yesterday that he'll be cameoing in 30 Rock's hourlong series finale, which airs January 31st. Ice posted this picture of his dressing room door with the caption, "Shooting a scene for the final episode of 30ROCK." He also told me, in private, it was okay if I refer to him as "Ice" in case you were wondering.

Alcohol Is the Secret Element in Amy Poehler and Adam Scott's Chemistry

"Even if it's a scene that doesn't involve kissing, we get sooo drunk before our scene. Even if it's a scene where we're just talking across the table. It started out as just a shot of tequila. Amy kept coming at me and saying, 'Let's just do a shot of tequila' and I was just like, 'Uh, okay.' She's the lead of the show so I felt like I should. But then I started being like 'lets drink a couple of beers with this scene with Nick Offerman but don't tell him.' It started being this huge, weird thing. I probably shouldn't be talking to you about it." — Adam Scott [...]
