Will Ferrell and Adam McKay Are Producing an Action-Comedy 'Manimal' Movie

If you're a huge fan of the shortly lived '80s television series Manimal, then today is your lucky day. Deadline reports that Sony Pictures Animation is teaming up with Jimmy Miller (The Other Guys, Step Brothers) and Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez Productions to adapt the cult series into a live action/animation hybrid feature, with Key and Peele EPs Jay Martel and Ian Roberts onboard to write. A director is not yet attached.

The original Manimal ran on NBC in late 1983 and starred Simon MacCorkindale as Dr. Jonathan Chase, a man raised in Africa with the ability to morph into different animals. "Like The [...]

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez Productions Adds Female-Centric Label Gloria Sanchez

With the exception of 2012's Bachelorette, Adam McKay and Will Ferrell's production company Gary Sanchez isn't exactly known for making female-driven movies, but according to Deadline, that's all about to change as the company has added a sister label aptly named Gloria Sanchez Productions. Longtime Gary Sanchez executive Jessica Elbaum — who has worked as producer on Step Brothers, The Other Guys, Casa de mi Padre, Bachelorette and most recently Anchorman 2 — will head the label and seek out female voices for Gloria Sanchez projects in the vein of Bachelorette and the upcoming movies Tammy starring Melissa McCarthy and Welcome to Me starring Kristen Wiig. No word [...]

Jason Sudeikis and Kirsten Dunst Are Starring in the Will Ferrell-Produced Rom-Com 'Sleeping with Other People'

Jason Sudeikis is starring in a new movie produced by his Saturday Night Live predecessor Will Ferrell. Called Sleeping with Other People, it's a romantic comedy that stars Sudeikis and Kirsten Dunst. The project was announced at the Toronto Film Festival this morning, Variety reports. In the film, Sudeikis plays "a good-natured womanizer who befriends a remorseful serial cheater" (Dunst). Will Ferrell and Adam McKay are producing via their company Gary Sanchez, while Leslye Headland is serving as writer/director. Headland made her feature debut last year with Bachelorette, which also starred Dunst and was produced by Ferrell and McKay.

Sudeikis, who wrapped up an eight-year stint as [...]

Lauryn Kahn Sells Million-Dollar Script to Her Old Boss: Adam McKay

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's production company Gary Sanchez is producing a new film, He's F***ing Perfect, about "one woman who regularly Facebook-stalks the men her friends are dating, acting as a vetting device for them to weed out losers." The interesting part? The script was written on spec by McKay's assistant, Lauryn Kahn – and sold for a cool mill. (Million dollars. She didn't sell it for the deed to a flour mill, or something.)

Kahn's written, directed and acted in several shorts with Gary Sanchez, like this one and this one, both of which mine humor from the awkwardness of romantic encounters. It should [...]

Will Ferrell to Star in a Drama About the 1973 Battle of the Sexes Tennis Match

Will Ferrell is going dramatic again, this time in a movie about the iconic 1973 tennis match known as "The Battle of the Sexes" between Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King. Variety reports that the movie is called Match Maker, and it's a drama written by Steve Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty).

The film is based on a 2013 ESPN article about the match called The Match Maker: Bobby Riggs, The Mafia and The Battle of the Sexes, written by Don Van Natta Jr. Ferrell will play Riggs, a 55-year-old retired player, who went up against King, a 29-year-old tennis champ, [...]

NBC Orders 3 Pilots from Adam McKay, Will Ferrell, Dan Mazer, and J.J. Philbin

NBC has ordered three more pilots including one from McKay and Ferrell's Gary Sanchez Productions, Deadline reports. The first pilot Love Is Relative is a multi-camera comedy written by Borat/Bruno co-writer Dan Mazer and co-produced by Tom Werner about "a wife and husband who begin to see their marriage in a whole new way after her newly divorced brother moves in."

The second pilot, titled Ellen More Or Less, is a single-camera show written by J.J. Philbin and produced by Jason Katims (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood) that follows "an average-size woman who, after losing 100 pounds, begins reinventing herself in life and love." Loosely based on the [...]

Will Ferrell's Company Is Developing a Late Night Talk Show for USA

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's production company Gary Sanchez is developing a new late night talk show for the USA Network, TV Guide reports, and the series sounds like it'll be pretty different from anything else on the late night dial. Created by Rob Cohen (Life and Times of Tim, Big Bang Theory)  and Owen Burke (who runs Gary Sanchez's TV division), the untitled project will be a morning show airing at 12:01 am, which is technically the morning. The show will be modeled after Live With Kelly and Michael and the fourth hour of Today hosted by Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb, and producers are [...]

Book of Mormon's Josh Gad To Pen Sitcom For NBC

In those few spare hours when he is not starring in Book of Mormon, Josh Gad and Will Farrell's Gary Sanchez Productions have teamed up as part of a development pact with NBC. Gad will write the high-concept comedy, reportedly about "a family on the road." Change that to a comedy about "a family on The Road," and I think you've really got something the American public will love and relate to. THINK ABOUT IT, PEOPLE.

Taking a Closer Look at the Female-Centric Gloria Sanchez Productions with Founder Jessica Elbaum

Comedy's infamous lack of gender (and racial) diversity has remained a relentlessly discussed issue lately, especially since SNL made the bizarre decision to hire a batch of no less than five white male cast members in the fall, took the brunt of the internet backlash that followed, and worked to fix the problem by holding emergency black female auditions. On the other hand, just last week Jerry Seinfeld got touchy when asked why most of his Comedians in Cars guests are white males, which he punctuated with a damning question: "Who cares?" Those two words blew up the internet.

But now the kicker: Gloria [...]

Casey Wilson and June Diane Raphael Sell a Movie to Will Ferrell and Adam McKay

Comedy partners Casey Wilson and June Diane Raphael have sold a movie pitch to Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez Productions, Deadline reports. The untitled project will be written by and star the duo, who recently co-wrote and starred in the independent comedy Ass Backwards together. Plot details are being kept under wraps.

In addition to the movie, Wilson and Raphael have sold two shows that are in development for the 2014-15 TV season. The first, DINKS (short for "double income no kids"), is for ABC and follows a working couple without any children. The second, The Mason Twins, is for NBC and is about [...]

Adam Pally and Gil Ozeri Are Making a Movie Together

Good buds and Happy Endings co-workers Adam Pally and Gil Ozeri have just sold a comedy movie to Disney. What the comedy will be about is still a mystery, but it'll be produced by Gary Sanchez’s Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Chris Henchy and Kevin Messick. Not a bad lineup! Can't wait to hear more about this one as it develops.
