Here's the First Trailer for Season 4 of HBO's 'Girls'

The fourth season of Girls premieres on HBO Sunday, January 11th, and the network released the season trailer today that follows Hannah's new adventures at the University of Iowa. Now that HBO has a stand-alone streaming service planned for 2015, it'll be interesting to see whether they release the season premiere in full on YouTube like they have in the past.

Maude Apatow to Make Her Television Debut on HBO's 'Girls'

Maude Apatow is set to make her TV comedy debut. TVLine reports that Maude will appear in the next season of Lena Dunham's hit HBO series Girls, which her dad Judd Apatow executive produces. Few details about Maude's character have been released, but she'll reportedly play a girl named Cleo "who could potentially appear in several episodes." Maude has shown up in her father's films Knocked Up, Funny People, and This Is 40, but Girls will make her first time on the small screen. Zachary Quinto, Gillian Jacobs, Jason Ritter, and Natasha Lyonne are also set to show up next season, which is slated to premiere early [...]

University of Iowa Denies HBO's Request to Film 'Girls' on Campus

The latest Girls season finale saw Hannah Horvath holding her Iowa Writers' Workshop acceptance letter, but it looks like we won't be seeing her hanging on the real University of Iowa campus next year. According to Variety, the university has denied HBO's request to film Hannah's storyline there for the fourth season.

"While we are pleased that the Iowa Writers' Workshop is receiving national attention and that our graduate is doing well in her career, our general practice is to not allow filming, due to potential disruption to campus," UI spokesman Tom Moore said in a statement (Girls writer Sarah Heyward is a graduate of the writing program). [...]

Lena Dunham Tells 'Glamour' Her Acting Days May Be Over

Girls star Lena Dunham is on the cover of Glamour's April issue, and in her interview with the fashion magazine she reportedly alluded to toning down her acting career to focus more on working behind the camera. "I don't know if I'm going to want to act anymore," she said in the interview. "I'm always relieved on the days I don't have to. I'd rather give parts to other women than be the woman having the parts." A fourth season of Girls is already locked in to air in 2015, so Dunham's intended transition won't happen right away. Either way it's surprising considering all the success she's [...]

Lena Dunham Is Writing a Four-Part 'Archie Comics' Miniseries

Girls star/creator Lena Dunham is getting ready to write her first comic book. Publisher Archie Comics announced today that they've hired Dunham to write a four-issue Archie miniseries that's expected to come out next year. There aren't any details on what Dunham's Archie comic will be about, but she said in the press release, "I was an avid Archie collector as a child — conventions, first editions that l kept in plastic sleeves, the whole shebang. It has so much cultural significance but also so much personal significance, and to get to play with these beloved characters is a wild creative opportunity." Archie Comics boss Roberta Aguirre-Sacasa added, "Lena’s take [...]

Lena Dunham and Her Stunt Double Star in This Season 4 'Girls' Teaser

The fourth season of Girls has gone into production, and HBO released the above teaser today that shows Lena Dunham — or someone who looks like Lena Dunham — falling off her bike at the University of Iowa — or a campus that looks like the University of Iowa, considering the real college turned down Girls' request to film the new season there.

Gillian Jacobs to Play a Recurring Role on 'Girls' This Season

Community was canceled earlier this month, but star Gillian Jacobs has already lined up her next TV job. Jacobs will play a recurring role on the upcoming fourth season of HBO's Girls, TV Line reports. Her character is named Mimi-Rose Howard, and she makes her first appearance in the fifth episode (called "Mimi-Rose") of the 10-episode season, which is set to premiere in 2015. Jacobs is the second Community to star to appear on Girls following Donald Glover's two-episode stint on the show in season two, and she's the first Community star to line up a new gig following that show's demise.

Season 3 of 'Girls' Was Best When Everyone Was Together Being Weird

In the pilot of Girls, when Hannah Horvath expressed desire to be “the voice of [her] generation, or at least the voice of a generation” the line embodied the 20-something’s comically directionless ambition, yet critics seemed to take the message at face value, crediting Lena Dunham with being that voice in the real world. This baggage bestowed upon the show made it an exhausting topic of conversation (at the very least for young women living in New York) in spite of two strong, funny seasons. This year, Lena Dunham said to Marc Maron in her recent appearance on WTF, “People expect me to either defend or explain my generation [...]

Highlights from Lena Dunham's Keynote Address at SXSW

Lena Dunham keynoted the South by Southwest Film Conference on Monday to a house packed with attendees, many of whom waited in line for over an hour to gain entry. Dunham took the stage joking she'd decided to write a speech in lieu of doing an interview in order to make up for her previous under-preparedness as a student. For much of her 40-minute speech, Dunham ran through her bio — information which her fans mostly already know — giving detailed anecdotes funny enough to compensate for the redundancy. She said the speech was an attempt to explain what helped begin her career, noting the huge role SXSW itself [...]

Talking to 'Girls' Co-Showrunner Jenni Konner About Season 3

Serving as an executive producer, writer, and Lena Dunham's co-showrunner, Jenni Konner has been with HBO's Girls since the beginning, playing an integral role in the series. Konner started her career as a writer on Girls EP Judd Apatow's Fox sitcom Undeclared and created a couple short-lived network shows of her own before she started working as a script doctor in the movie world and eventually transitioned back to Girls when it was brand new. Now in its third season, Girls is still full of the same honesty we’ve seen in the past. Before this season's premiere even aired, HBO ordered a fourth season and their faith in the show is completely [...]

Lena Dunham and Fred Armisen Talk About 'SNL' and Their Other Shows for 'Variety'

To celebrate both of their Emmy nominations, Variety recently sat down with Lena Dunham and Fred Armisen for a hybrid interview/conversation that covers everything from their thoughts on each other's shows Girls and Portlandia to what it's like to perform on SNL. Here's both of them talking about Lorne Michaels and his behind-the-scenes skills and power:

Armisen: Lorne gives the most valuable kind of notes. I don't know how he knows. I don't know if he has like some secret connection to my brain but he addresses questions that I haven't asked yet and then I feel better about a whole season. In a sentence, he can diffuse [...]

The 24 Best Sketches of 'SNL' Season 39

With SNL's 39th season coming to a close, we're taking a look at the past season with a series of posts examining the highs, lows, and other memorable moments from the past eight months. Here we recall some of our favorite sketches from the season — both live sketches and videos.

Season 39 of SNL certainly hasn't been the most popular among viewers, with its first half bogged down with criticism over the lack of diversity in the cast, and its second half attacked (often unfairly) for uneven writing under new head writer Colin Jost. Even though the show hired Sasheer Zamata (along with two black female writers), and the script [...]

Judd Apatow Says He and Lena Dunham Have Talked About Ending 'Girls' After Six Seasons

Judd Apatow gave a nice lengthy interview in front of students at Loyola Marymount last week (via THR), and in it, he revealed that he and his fellows Girls producers Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner have discussed ending the show after six seasons:

How many more seasons are you going to do of Girls? We've talked about doing six seasons. I guess that could change, it's not set … I think we're all committed that we'll do six … Do you have an ending in mind? No I don't think so. But we've talked about it. It makes you respect the ending of The Sopranos though. [...]

'SNL' Review: Lena Dunham, Guest Stars, and Lots of Impressions

This time last year, Megh Wright and I compiled a list of 10 first-time SNL hosts we'd like to see someday. The list included Stephen Colbert (right?) and the now-sadly-late Philip Seymour Hoffman, but decidedly not Lena Dunham. She was one of the first people we discussed, and we both agreed to pass over the Girls creator/star in favor of figures who might make better hosts. I told Megh then that Dunham would be a person people like us would want to see host, but by the time the episode started, we'd quickly realize, "Oh, this wasn't as good an idea as we thought." Dunham doesn't strike me [...]
