NBC has ordered up five additional scripts for its ratings-challenged freshman sitcom Guys with Kids, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Jimmy Fallon-produced series, starring Jesse Bradford, Anthony Anderson, and Zach Cregger as a trio of men raisin' babies, hasn't been doing so hot in the ratings. Its latest episode was just three-tenths of a ratings point above recently-axed Animal Practice, so the order for additional scripts comes as a surprise. Of course, NBC might just be waiting to see how Guys with Kids does with its new lead-in, Whitney, which is returning from hiatus to take Animal Practice's place in the Wednesday 8pm slot on November [...]
Guys with Kids got the sneak preview treatment last night. Well, if you missed it, you can watch it online. The show premieres in a couple weeks, so you have some time, if you're busy right now. I should warn you, it is quite multi-camera. The show starts with producer Jimmy Fallon pleasantly informing us/warning us that the show was taped in front of a studio audience and afterward, boy does that studio audience make itself known. They are also almost always not particularly funny, needing to spend the majority of their time giving the viewer a tour of their expansive house that isn't completely constructed yet. On the other hand, we were bombarded with news from the upfronts about the new shows that are going to change the way we live and breathe, so it's only fair that we unfairly judge them based on three minutes of footage.
There are eight comedies premiering this fall on the four major networks. They are listed in order of how [...]

NBC is on a sitcom-ordering roll; having already picked up four new series for the fall season, they just went and made it five with Guys With Kids. It's a multi-cam sitcom, unlike the other four, and it'll be executive produced by Jimmy Fallon. It'll be about "a group of dads in their thirties who don't feel mature enough to be parents, despite having kids."
Sounds promising! But boy, five new half-hour sitcoms for the fall season sure doesn't bode well for NBC's existing comedy lineup. With each new pickup the prospects of on-the-bubble shows like Up All Night and Whitney grow slimmer, and the chances of [...]
