You've probably heard how NBC pushed Community's premiere back from October to February, meaning that the show's Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas episodes will all air this winter/spring. If not, NBC just released this tacky promo trying to explain away that inconsistency by relying heavily on the cringe-inducing portmanteau "Valloween." Hopefully, this is is the last of these, and we won't have to watch promos for Thankspatricks Day and Easterchristmas.
Living legend Tom Hanks made an appearance on The Colbert Report last night to share some Halloween tips and not to plug his latest movie, Cloud Atlas. Here he is with some fun costume suggestions for trick-or-treaters, which just happen to all be characters from his movies. It's a complete coincidence, as is the appearance of Matt Damon in his Saving Private Ryan costume because A-list movie stars always go door-to-door for candy on Halloween, dressed up as their past roles. It has nothing with Hanks trying to get to get people to see Cloud Atlas by showing off how many good movies he's been in, that's for sure.
On this episode: The Going-Out-Of-Business Store opens and the Grand Opening Store closes, the Pentagon demands more zombie shit, the MacCloud's have nosy neighbors, a man's found memories of his dead brother's widow, two old friends catch up in a sanitarium, a virgin travels through time, Mark Jacobs uses the Puppy Defense, contract negotiations with the devil, a mom condescends to Halloween horror, and Cranston has become the hunter and the hunted.
Genius readers Asterios and Justine followed our Halloween costume advice and went as a supernatural Whitney billboard. Nothing is a lovelier holiday ritual for a couple than dressing as a kinda-bored man and the evil vampiric shrew who wants to eat that man's eyeballs. Anyone else dare to try out a comedy costume this year? It's not too late! Halloween is just boo-ginning. (I will not apologize for that joke, and frankly, I should not be expected to.)
In Parks and Rec’s four season run, the show has only had one Halloween episode prior to last night’s show, only because this is the second time the show’s been on the air in the fall. The last Halloween episode, “Greg Pikitis,” in which Leslie engaged in a battle of wits with her prank-loving teenage nemesis, is one of my favorite Parks episodes ever. While I didn’t like “Meet ‘n’ Greet” quite as much as “Greg Pikitis,” it was still a funny and thoroughly entertaining installment of Parks and Recreation that found funny and exciting new ways to explore the relationships between the characters in the show’s large central [...]
Community's return to NBC in February, four months later than the cast and crew had planned when making the first several episodes, will be causing some holiday-themed episodes to air long after we non-TV people celebrate said holidays. Joel McHale told Jimmy Kimmel last month that Community's "Halloween episode is gonna be awesome in February," but TV Guide reports that the show also has Thanksgiving and Christmas episodes in the can that'll also be airing way late. Still, at least the show is coming back and we get to see these episodes eventually, and it'll be fun and silly to see the Community gang decked out for [...]
Every month, The Sequel Machine recruits 25 writers to write the sequels for film's biggest franchises one page at a time. The catch is, the writers only get to read the page before theirs in a round-robin, exquisite corpse style. The end result is a hilarious, twisted, and as coherent as any misquided Hollywood sequel. This month: 9thmare on Elm Street.
Performed by: Adam Bozarth, Dan Chamberlain, Matt Little, Anna Rubanova, Brett White, Jeremy Bent, Kathy Salerno, Nicole Byer, and Laura Willcox
Joel McHale was on Jimmy Kimmel last night in an appearance that he booked before Community's sudden hiatus was announced, but he showed up anyway to discuss the little vacation from NBC's schedule the show is taking. Like the timing of this TV appearance, McHale explains that the Community delay is messing up a lot of things planned for the new season, like an original sketch the cast made together that they'll still be tweeting out simultaneously this Friday, and the show's Halloween episode, which Joel McHale promises will be "awesome in February." We're looking forward to Community hopefully taking on Thanksgiving, Taken 2, and Mitt Romney's "binders full of women" comment next [...]
"A person should always choose a costume which is in direct contrast to her own personality."
If you don't like It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, featuring the gang from Peanuts, then, I'm sorry, you're a monster. It's a heartwarming tale about childhood belief, dogs fighting in World War I, getting dissapointed by well-meaning, yet idiotic adults, and not being able to stay awake through the night. In other words, it's perfect.
Great Pumpkin first aired on October 27, 1966 on CBS, and it's been re-aired on that network and, beginning in 2001, on ABC every year since. Like the comic strips themselves, it was written by brilliant [...]

It's been a week since our episode recorded right before Hurricane Sandy hit New York City. The good news is that this week we were able to be in the same physical space to record! The bad news is that Hurricane Sandy devastated our city. We discuss our own personal experiences during the storm (spoiler alert: neither of us were affected much more than mildly inconvenienced), the 24 hours news cycle making everyone think everything is over-hyped and Tim almost gets punched in the face while waiting in a long line for gasoline. Also Tom visits the Brooklyn Botanical Garden for the first time and discovers it's just full [...]
Community's Halloween episodes are always something to look forward to, but as Joel McHale said last week, the hiatus means this year's Halloween installment probably won't be airing until February. Well, that's where this new, interactive, Halloween-themed Community game comes in. You can check out the game, "The Community Horror Picture Show," over at NBC's website. It's a "Choose Your Own Adventure" deal where you can guide yourself through Community's past Halloween episodes, and it's nowhere near as satisfying as that video the cast released last week or a new episode (from what I can remember those were like).
Bob's Burgers's first-ever Halloween installment is airing this Sunday, and the show's creative team cut an in-house trailer that's an homage to The Warriors. The episode involves the Belcher kids going trick-or-treating unsupervised in search of full-sized candy bars, but they get caught up in the local teenagers' tradition "Hell Hunt." The trailer alone is already a million times scarier than the entirety of The Warriors is.
On this Halloween episode: The Crypt Keeper welcomes you to the House on Sketches Hill, the Clearfield County Spooky Patrol vows to protect the audience, the Salem Rich Trials, Swamp Thing works Apple tech support, Re-Re Animator, the Tickle Monster, Paul Harvey tells a ghost story, the new kid in a haunted town, Buffalo Bill sings "Wear Your Skin," Lana makes a confession to her parents, a camp fire prank touches a nerve.
This month's show was written and performed by Adam Bozarth, Dan Chamberlain, Matt Little, Taylor Moore, and Anna Rubanova, with special guests Jeremy Bent, Jason Flowers, Bethany Hall, and Ryan Williams.
