HBO Orders Stephen Merchant's 'Hello Ladies' to Series

The Office and Extras co-creator Stephen Merchant's HBO pilot Hello Ladies just got picked up by the pay cable network for an eight-episode run, Deadline reports. Merchant writes, directs, and stars in the new series, in which he'll play a gawky Englishman looking for love in the States. The pilot co-starred Nate Torrence, Christine Woods, and Kevin Weisman, and the show will be produced by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who worked on the US version of The Office. Hello Ladies is Stephen Merchant's HBO sitcom about Stephen wanting to be super cool and part of LA's social scene of gorgeous perfect people. His supporting cast will be made up a lot of actors that evoke the reaction of, "Oh yeah, that person." Christine Woods (Perfect Couples, FlashFoward) will play Jessica, a platonic friend of Stephen's character who lives in his guest house. Nate Torrence (She's Out of My League, Studio 60) will play Wade, Stephen's best friend who is unhappily forced to join Stephen in the LA dating world, after his wife leaves him. Kevin Weisman (Alias) will play Kives. Stephen Merchant Piloting for HBO

HBO has ordered a pilot for a new show co-written/directed/starring Stephen Merchant. Entitled Hello Ladies, the show focuses on a tall British fellow in LA looking for the love of his life. This isn't so easy, as the city's young and beautiful are not the most willing to allow the gangling and awkward into their beautiful inner circle of beautiful people. The show was co-created/co-written by former US Office writers-producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky. They're best known for writing the hit comedy Bad Teacher and for recently failing to pen an agreeable third Ghostbusters movie.
