'Eugene Mirman Day' Is Now an Official Holiday in the City of Boston

Comedian Eugene Mirman now has his own holiday. The Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival is in Boston this weekend, and in honor of that, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has officially proclaimed May 3rd, 2014, as "Eugene Mirman Day" in the city. Mirman grew up in suburban Boston and started his standup career in the city before moving to New York.

Check out Boston's official proclamation about the holiday and a photo of Mirman with the Mayor (via his Twitter) below:

A Note From the Principal About the Myths of Santa Claus and Democracy, by Ben Godar

Dear Teachers and Staff,

It's that time of year when students begin asking questions about Santa Claus. Some are believers, some are doubters, and when they come together…watch out! My suggestion is to treat the idea of Santa much like you would the idea of our democracy—a pleasing notion that some take comfort in (even if it's not real!).

Students will bring in all kinds of legends from their families.  Some will believe Santa carries a magic key that unlocks any door. Others will believe elections represent the will of the people. It's important not to question these obviously fraudulent ideas and let their parents decide when they are [...]

Get Ready For The Cutest Muppet-Based Gift Guide of The Holiday Season

Are these Muppets planning on stopping their adorableness anytime soon? Their unabating, rampant cuteness is just pounding away at all of our shriveled, embittered, bronze-encased hearts. And it hurts. Their latest crime is this gift guide from the Secret Santa between Muppet and human Muppets co-stars, including Sarah Silverman, Rashida Jones, Kristen Schaal, and Whoopi Goldberg. They all love each other so much! I really can't wait for November 23 so the movie comes out and I can go back to my regular cynical, bleak existence without all this stupid joy in the way.

It's Memorial Day

So, today is Memorial Day, so we won't be publishing. Instead, Halle and I will be drinking out of doors, just as America/God intended. But we'll be back tomorrow in full force, albeit probably a little sad that the long weekend is over. But don't worry! We're true professionals, so you won't see any of that post-long-weekend malaise seeping into our posts. In any case, enjoy the holiday, and we'll see you tomorrow.

Wednesday night, The Chris Gethard Show held its third annual "Sandwich Night" episode, a pre-Thanksgiving tradition in which the entire show is devoted to people bringing their own sandwiches to the studio and talking about them. How Are We Supposed to Get Away from These Mobsters in the Midst of a Chinese New Year Parade? by Tim Sampson

Perfect! Just perfect! And here I thought we were finally in the clear. After all, we managed to escape from that abandoned warehouse and outrun those Mafia goons for 16 blocks. But just when it seemed like our getaway was assured, we run right smack dab into the middle of this massive Chinese New Year Parade.

How the heck are we supposed to find a way out of here?

I mean, can you believe our luck? Like we didn't have it hard enough already today, untying ourselves from those chairs and climbing through that air duct. Now we're standing in the middle of Chinatown amidst a massive street festival [...]

A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas Trailer Is The Greatest Gift Of All

Ho Ho Homygod, you guys, I could not be more excited to see this movie. The A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas trailer has everything: Claymation, Party Jesus, a toddler so high she apparently acquires supernatural powers, a show-stopping Neil Patrick Harris music number, and, of course, John Cho somehow getting the end of his dick frozen to a pole, A Christmas Story-style. If only Santa could take a shot-gun blast to the face every day of the year.

Conan and She & Him Play "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"

Expect this one to get REBLOGGED about a million times on TUMBLR as it contains two of that blogging service's favorite things: Conan and Zooey. If they only had a fat cat on there (or were performing on some high-end Danish furniture), it'd be a home run.
