Showtime Renews 'Shameless' and 'House of Lies'

Showtime announced this morning the renewal of two of the network's comedy-dramas, House of Lies and Shameless, for another season. Both shows debuted their current seasons in January and are currently airing new episodes on Sunday nights. The renewal will mark the fifth season for Shameless, starring William H. Macy, and the fourth for Don Cheadle-led House of Lies. Both new seasons will be 12 episodes long and are expected to debut in 2015.

Showtime Renews 'House of Lies,' 'Californication,' and 'Shameless'

Showtime just handed out renewal orders to a trio of shows, comedy-dramas House of Lies, Californication, and Shameless. It'll be the third season for House of Lies, which stars Don Cheadle, Kristen Bell, Ben Schwartz, ans Josh Lawson; the seventh season for David Duchovny-led Californication, and the fourth for William H. Macy vehicle Shameless. Showtime says the three shows have each experienced a year-to-year gain in viewership. All three are currently airing new episodes on Sunday nights through early April and will pick up again with these new seasons in 2014, which sounds really far away but isn't anymore.

Ben Schwartz Seems to Really Hate Don Cheadle and Really Love Profanity

What an ass Don Cheadle is. What is he even the Don of? Jerks? It's wonderful that Ben Schwartz was brave enough to tell the truth. This is the first of a Hollywood Reporter series in which they're having actors "stump" for their Emmy-nominated costars. Can't wait for the video in which the dog from Modern Family just takes a shit on a photo of the cast.

Ben Schwartz Doesn't Lick Girls' Necks in Real Life

Here's a nice long interview with Ben Schwartz about House of Lies and whether he would ever use Jean-Ralphio's flirting techniques in real life:

I think a human being would get slapped for that. I don't think I'd want to go out with a girl who'd want to go out with Jean-Ralphio. I don't think I'd want to date a woman who, when I go up to her and start dancing like a crazy person and licking her neck would be like, "Oh, this is the person I've been looking for!"

He also talks about how the many rejections he's encountered in entertainment have prepared him for [...]

Watch the Slick, French-Toast-Filled Premiere of House of Lies Right Now

What's this? The entire first episode of House of Lies, Showtime comedy with Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell and Ben Schwartz? Oh I do believe it is! Three minutes in, there's already a Zack Morris-style freeze-frame AND a pre-teen son wearing a skirt and announcing his bowel movements. Get to it.

Check Out Showtime's Longform Improv Special 'House of Lies Live'

Showtime's 30-minute longform improv special House of Lies Live, featuring House of Lies cast Don Cheadle, Kristen Bell, Ben Schwartz, Josh Lawson, Lauren Lapkus, Eugene Cordero, and Ryan Gaul performing improv at LA's UCB theater earlier this month, will air unedited and uncensored on the network tomorrow at 10:00PM. If you're not a Showtime subscriber, you can still watch the censored online version above.

Watch Ben Schwartz on an LA Morning Show

Here's Ben Schwartz, star of House of Lies and Jean-Ralphio on Parks and Recreation, giving a loose and goofy interview on local morning show Good Day LA, a show that heavily relies on audience applause sound effects. Watch 'till the end to see host Steve Edwards steal one of Scott Aukerman's jokes by accidentally calling Ben Schwartz's show "House of Pies." He's doing Aukerman's "getting all of Ben Schwartz's career specifics wrong" bit," but for real.

Top Female TV Producers Discuss the Funniness Potential of Penises and Vaginas

Deadline gathered Jessika Borsiczky (House of Lies), Emily Kapnek (Suburgatory), Elizabeth Meriwether (New Girl), and Emily Spivey (Up All Night) together to discuss the standard "important" questions about women in comedy they are often asked to discuss. However, at the end they got to what's really important by asking which is funnier penises or vaginas:

Kristen Bell Tells You What It's Like to Stick Your Foot in Another Actor's Mouth

Here's Kristen Bell on shooting a House of Lies scene where another character puts her foot in his mouth:

…it was as awkward as it seems to be.You know, I had just met another actor who, as per the crazy script written, needed to put my foot in his mouth. We talked about it and I washed my foot and he had a mint — just for shits and giggles — and we just kind of went for it. We didn't practice it at all, obviously, because: No. 1) Why would you? That's weird. No. 2) We wanted it to be realistically awkward when we did it.

"Sophisticated [...]

House Of Lies Trailer Might Make You Want To Occupy Wall Street

I have the sneaking suspicion, based on the House of Lies trailer posted by co-star Ben Schwartz, that the new Showtime show might be coming out at the wrong time in history. Remember when Sex And The City 2 came out during the recession (that we are currently sliding back into)? The reminder that our every decision is influenced by corporations makes me want to hurl a garbage can through the windshield of a cop car, is what I'm saying. However, if Don Cheadle and the gang are in fact some kind of It's Always Sunny-esque team of total unrelenting dirtbags, that would be  an excellent way balance [...]

Showtime Is Releasing a Longform Improv Special Starring the 'House of Lies' Cast Online

Showtime announced today that they produced a live longform improv special starring the cast of their show House of Lies and that they'll be debuting it online next week. Called House of Lies Live, the special features cast members Ben Schwartz and Josh Lawson, who are both experienced improvisers, doing a longform improv show alongside stars Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell, who are new to the art form, and House of Lies guest stars/improvisers Eugene Cordero, Ryan Gaul, and Lauren Lapkus. The 30-minute special, taped earlier this month at LA's UCB theater, will debut online via Showtime's YouTube channel on December 30th and will air on Showtime the following [...]

Ben Schwartz is Your Latest ‘Arrested Development’ Guest Star

Ben Schwartz, best known for his recurring role as delightful douchebag Jean-Ralphio on Parks and Recreation and for starring on Showtime’s House of Lies, just landed a guest starring role in Arrested Development’s upcoming fourth season. As with most of the previously-announced guest stars, like John Slattery, Isla Fisher, Terry Crews, and Chris Diamantopoulos, there’s no word on who Schwartz will be playing. Despite the constant barrage of leaked set photos, the folks in charge are doing a pretty good job of keeping most of the new seasons' details under wraps.

In other (minor) AD news, Henry Winkler just spoke to Moviefone, sharing his thoughts on the [...]

Showtime Has Picked Up New Seasons of House of Lies and Californication

Showtime has renewed House of Lies for a second season and Californication for a sixth. So much sexy lying and lying sexing lie ahead.

Assessing the House of Lies Pilot: Is It a Series to Watch?

House of Lies is set to premiere this Sunday on Showtime, but they put the pilot onYouTube yesterday. The show is about a not-so-ragtag group of management consultants trying to manage and/or consultant (I don’t know how business works) in this crazy world and features many familiar, well-liked faces. Should you watch it?

Reasons you should watch:

It stars a movie star and that movie star is Don Cheadle

If anything can be learned from New Girl is that it’s an absolute joy to be able to watch a movie star on TV each week (and that school teachers in LA have an endless supply of vintage dresses). [...]
