Watch Ira Glass Interview Shelby Fero as Mike Birbiglia

Twitter sensation Shelby Fero was assigned to interview Mike Birbiglia and Ira Glass about their movie Sleepwalk with Me, and she decided to do it in character as Mike Birbiglia – a dark demented version of Mike Birbiglia, that is – with Ira Glass asking interviewing her as Shelby Fero. It's a lot of fun.

Tig Notaro Explains Exactly How Her Largo Set Happened

"And so I was in New York and I met with [Ira Glass] and I had like ten pages of start to finish every detail of horrible stuff that had gone on and he read it and he said 'Ugh, this is so depressing.' And I was like 'Yeah, I know it’s my life, Ira, I don’t know.' And he said 'You need to work this out in stand-up, you know, not in just a written piece of tragic stuff.' He said, 'Your power is on stage so you need to utilize that. There’s nothing funny right now.'” – An excerpt from Tig Notaro explaining the entire story of her [...]

Mike Birbiglia and Ira Glass Sure (Don't?) Know How to Promote a Movie

With the Internet and all its doohickies there must be 14 zillion ways to promote a movie yet Mike Birbiglia and Ira Glass  (aka Team Big Glass) are going old school. They're just going to be there. "Hey, come by this movie theater and hang out. Oh yeah, a movie will be playing? 'What movie?' you ask? Well, it's our movie but, seriously, we really just want to hang." If it were anymore grassroots it would be just signs written with the actual roots of grass.

Part of Tig Notaro's Famous Largo Set Will be Broadcast on 'This American Life'

Early this month, Tig Notaro performed a legendary set at Largo in Los Angeles. As an account from the night put it: "For the first half of her set, even though she was telling the story in perfect grace and humor, I couldn’t laugh. For the second half, for the first time in my life, as far as I can recall, I genuinely laughed and cried at the exact same time, bewildered at the tragedy and the remarkably calm, clever prism through which she assessed her terrible set of circumstances." Louis C.K. and Bill Burr called it one of the best they've ever seen. The performance addressed her [...]

Please Sleepwalk with Mike Birbiglia at a Movie Theater

This looks fun, right guys? Marc Maron is in it and he's acting! Sleepwalk With Me is based on Mike Birbiglia's one-man show and book of the same name and was co-written by the icon of glasses wearers everywhere Ira Glass. The film hits theaters on August 24th, so start taking sleeping pills in preparation. Oh, what's that? You don’t actually go sleepwalking with Mike; it's just a title? Never mind the pills then.

Ira Glass at His High School Reunion

"Ira Glass Tries To Explain This American Life At High School Reunion," from The Onion: "According to sources at Milford Mill High School's 30-year reunion, alumnus Ira Glass spent most of Saturday's event laboring to explain his public radio program, This American Life, to former classmates. 'I'm still not completely sure, but I think he has some sort of call-in show,' said Glass' sophomore biology lab partner Shannon Fortin, who reported that Glass just sighed when asked if he could say Fortin's name on the air during his next broadcast."

Fred Armisen Will Co-Host Next Week's 'This American Life' as Ira Glass

Quirky public radio program This American Life will have a very special guest this weekend: Fred Armisen as Ira Glass. The episode's theme is "doppelgängers," and Armisen will be co-hosting with the real Ira Glass for the entire hour. You can listen to it tomorrow afternoon on the radio via your local NPR affiliate or download it Sunday in podcast form. According to This American Life's website, Armisen developed his Ira Glass impression for Saturday Night Live but never used it on the show after deciding "the public radio personality isn't quite famous enough to be mocked on network TV." Why didn't he do it on Portlandia then, [...]

I think Lewis Schwartz needs to call the Atone Phone. I called him last week, trying to order some premium sod, and instead I got a plutonium rod. Sure, I was able to build that atomic bomb but it really wreaked havoc on my lawn. No apples or honey for you, Schwartz, until my rose bushes grow back.

'Sleepwalk With Me' Killed It this Weekend

Sleepwalk With Me ran awake this weekend. On just one screen it earned $65,000. This had a lot to do with Ira Glass and Mike Birbiglia vowing to be at every single showing. Either way it worked exactly as planned. Better yet, its $65,000 per-screen average trounced The Avengers $47,698 opening average. In you face, Joss Whedon. Your movie lost to the movie you jokingly protested as a way of promoting the work of your friends. I bet you're going to have trouble sleeping on the pile of residual checks you've received from the $1.5 billion your movie made. (P.S. You should probs deposit those checks.) [...]

Trade Roundup: Horrible Bosses 2, Paul Rudd, Kristen Wiig, Owen Wilson, Kurt Russell

- Horrible Bosses 2 is a thing that is happening. Luckily, it will probably have the original's writers and directors, and the Bateman-Sudeikis-Day trio is expected to star again. Maybe they'll try to kill each other's kids in this one.

- Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson, Kristen Wiig, and Christopher Walken may star in Freezing People Is Easy, written by Stranger Than Fiction's Zach Helm, directed by Errol Morris and produced by (among others) Ira Glass. Yeah, that's a whole lot of awesome names. The film is the true story of the "television repairman who tried to pioneer the field of cryogenics by freezing humans." Um, if it's [...]
