HBO Developing Jay Roach/Kristin Gore Comedy Series 'Women in Space'

Two months after ordering Jay Roach's Jack Black/Tim Robbins comedy pilot The Brink to series, Deadline reports that Roach has also teamed up with Al Gore's daughter Kristin to develop a half-hour HBO comedy series called Women in Space. Penned by Gore — who has also written for The Harvard Lampoon, SNL, and Futurama Women in Space follows "a group of women exploring the final frontier on a mission to colonize another planet." While casting has not yet been announced, Gore and Roach will both serve as executive producers for the pilot.

Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis to Play Presidential Candidates in 2012 Movie

Will Ferrell is no stranger to playing a bumbling politician, but the idea of him teaming up with Zach Galifianakis to play rival presidential candidates in the heart of election year is still pretty exciting. The two of them have signed on for a still-untitled project from director Jay Roach (Dinner for Schmucks, Austin Powers) and writer Shawn Harwell (Eastbound and Down).

Four-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening has teamed up with filmmaker Jay Roach for a new comedy series, Deadline reports. The show is called The Third Coast, and producers are preparing to pitch it to HBO but are doing an informal reading of the script first. The Third Coast would star Bening as a big casting director in New Mexico, and it was written by Paul Rudnick (In & Out, The Stepford Wives). Following this past weekend's news that Philip Seymour Hoffman is starring in a comedy pilot for Showtime, pay cable networks sure are getting some acclaimed actors for their shows this year.

Talking to Jay Roach About 'Austin Powers', 'Meet the Parents', and Directing Big-Budget Comedies

Jay Roach's first major break as a director was comedy gold. Granted, when your muse is Austin Powers it's not entirely surprising. In addition to directing the Austin Powers trilogy, Roach also went onto direct the Meet the Parents franchise as well as The Campaign and Dinner for Schmucks. He's also branched out into drama and directed HBO's two most watched films, Game Change and Recount, both of which earned him Emmy Awards. Roach also produced Borat, Charlie Bartlett, and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and former Bangles front woman Susanna Hoffs and their two sons. Roach and I sat [...]
